Dubai's airports have become a chocolate lover's paradise, with a remarkable 2.5 million bars of locally made chocolates sold in just the first half of 2025. This surge in sales, which has generated an impressive Dh165 million in revenue, underscores the increasing demand for UAE-based chocolate brands.
Speaking to local media outlet Dubai Eye, Ramesh Cidambi, CEO of Dubai Duty Free, highlighted that these sales have provided a significant boost to the local economy. Cidambi pointed out that, since these brands are homegrown, the majority of the revenue from these chocolate sales remains within the UAE, benefitting the country's economy as a whole.

L'ocali: Luxury Meets Heritage
The Dubai-born brand L'ocali blends two key pillars of the UAE, heritage and luxury. Its chocolates, which include dates wrapped in 24k edible gold, embody the opulence that Dubai is famous for. L'ocali's offerings also include chocolate-coated dates with various fillings such as pistachio, rose, and orange peel, as well as gourmet chocolates crafted from Belgian truffles and Swiss chocolate.
The brand's focus is on capturing the essence of Dubai's luxury experience, making it a favorite among both locals and tourists.
Bateel: The Pioneer of
Date Chocolate
Bateel is more than just a chocolate brand, it's a part of the UAE's culinary heritage. Established in 1992, the brand is deeply rooted in both the UAE and Saudi Arabian traditions, with its headquarters in Dubai. The word "Bateel" refers to the young offshoot of a date palm tree, symbolizing growth and new beginnings, which aligns with the brand's commitment to innovation in chocolate.
Bateel revolutionized the chocolate industry when it "invented the date chocolate" in 2000, combining the rich flavors of dates with the decadence of high-quality chocolate. Beyond its signature date chocolates, Bateel also offers artisanal chocolates from regions like Brazil and the Dominican Republic, along with cookies inspired by Middle Eastern flavors like date dhibs and milk chocolate sesame praline.
The brand's expansion into the broader food sector, with the opening of Cafe Bateel in 2007, cemented its position as a beloved spot for residents and visitors alike. In 2023, it launched Bateel El'an, a more compact, cafe-focused format.
Al Nassma: The
Camel Milk Chocolate
Pioneer
Founded in 2008 by Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Al Nassma is the UAE's first camel milk chocolate brand, and it has become an iconic name in the Middle East. Camel milk has long been a staple in the region, particularly among Bedouins, and Al Nassma uses this unique ingredient to craft chocolates that reflect the traditions of the Arabian desert.
The brand has made a mark with its "hollow figures," caravan boxes, pralines, and chocolate bars. Known for its luxurious offerings, Al Nassma has positioned itself as the "Godiva of the Middle East," combining high-quality chocolate with the distinct flavor of camel milk.
Samha: Camel Milk with a Twist
Launched in 2019 by Prime Chocolate, the parent company of Al Nassma, Samha brings another dimension to the world of camel milk chocolate. While Al Nassma offers a broad range of camel milk-based chocolates, Samha focuses specifically on camel milk-covered dates, which are a local favorite.
Samha has also embraced the pistachio kunafa flavor, adding a camel milk twist that brings a unique local touch. The bite-sized treats are a popular choice for birthdays, gatherings, and celebrations, helping people from diverse nationalities in the UAE share a taste of local culture.
I Love Dubai: A Fusion of Local Flavors
If you thought pistachio kunafa chocolate was the most innovative combination, think again. "I Love Dubai" offers some of the most unique chocolates in the region, including pistachio baklava chocolate and gahwa crunch. The pistachio baklava is a nod to the UAE's rich history of layered desserts, while the gahwa crunch incorporates gahwa, the Emirati term for Arabic coffee, a symbol of the country's legendary hospitality.
Another standout is halwa rahash, a Middle Eastern dessert made from sesame seed paste. It has a nutty, fudge-like texture, and when paired with chocolate, it creates a truly distinctive local flavor experience.

Home buyers 'fraud': ED secures custody of 2 Ramprastha Group directors

Gurugram, The Directorate of Enforcement on Wednesday secured two-day custody of Sandeep Yadav and Arvind Walia, promoters of Haryana-based realty company Ramprastha Group, in connection with a money laundering probe linked to an alleged ₹1,100 crore fraud with homebuyers. Home buyers 'fraud': ED secures custody of 2 Ramprastha Group directors The two were arrested on Monday after the Gurugram zonal office of the federal probe agency raided three premises in Delhi and Gurugram, including those of the directors, early morning on that day. Yadav and Walia are directors and majority shareholders in Ramprastha Promoters and Developers Pvt Ltd . They were taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act . The federal probe agency produced the two in the court of an additional session judge, following which the ED secured their custody. The agency conducted a survey against the group in September 2024. It is alleged that the RPDPL collected about ₹1,100 crore from more than 2,000 homebuyers for various housing schemes like Project Edge, Project Skyz, Project Rise and Ramprastha City in various sectors of Gurugram during 2008-11. The possession of the flats or plots is yet to be given, even after 15-20 years, the sources said. Earlier this month, the agency attached colonies and plots spread across more than 1,900 acres and worth over ₹681.54 crore of the group in Gurugram as part of this investigation. The money laundering case stems from multiple FIRs filed by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi and Haryana Police based on complaints of numerous homebuyers against RPDPL and its promoters, like Yadav, Walia and Balwant Chaudhary for their "failure" to deliver promised flats and plots within the promised timeframes, the ED had said in a statement. The company and its promoters "diverted" the funds sources from buyers of these projects to its group companies as advances for the purchase of land parcels, instead of using them for completion of promised homes, it had said. PDD Analysts See HK Listing as More Likely After Auditor Change

(Bloomberg) -- PDD Holdings Inc.'s move to switch to a Hong Kong-based auditor may indicate the Chinese e-commerce firm is preparing to apply for a second listing there, according to two analysts. The parent company of budget shopping app Temu said in a filing on Wednesday that it has tapped Hong Kong-based auditors of Ernst & Young for a review of its financial statements this year. The firm previously worked with Beijing-based Ernst & Young Hua Ming LLP. Such a shift likely suggests that PDD is pursuing a listing in Hong Kong over coming months, according to Citigroup analyst Alicia Yap. 'If this proves to be true, we believe this could be viewed as a positive catalyst for the share price,' she said. PDD did not immediately reply to an emailed request for comment outside of office hours. PDD's American depositary receipts rose as much as 5.6% to the highest in two months. The firm is among the relatively few US-listed Chinese names that have yet to list in Hong Kong, a group that also includes retailer Vipshop Holdings Ltd. and tutoring firm TAL Education Group. Companies like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Inc. and Baidu Inc. have already secured a second listing in Hong Kong amid persistent concerns that they could get booted off American exchanges. In April, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said all options are 'on the table' when asked about potential delistings of Chinese companies. A second listing would potentially enable investors of Chinese firms to convert ADRs to Hong Kong shares in the event of a US delisting. Upgrading the Hong Kong listing to a primary status — like what Alibaba did last year — will also allow mainland buyers to tap into the stock. Felix Wang, an analyst at Hedgeye Risk Management, noted that companies preparing to list in Hong Kong often engage with local auditors to comply with regulatory requirements. That was the case for both Alibaba and when they sought Hong Kong listings, he said. 'One of the frustrations on PDD in the past is the company not interested in issuing a secondary IPO' to expand its investor base, Wang said in a note. 'Is PDD changing its mind on listing in HK? It can only help with investor sentiment.' More stories like this are available on

EV charging stns must operate by Sept-end: Khatri

Nashik: Nashik municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri has set a deadline of Sept-end for civic officials to operate the remaining 13 EV charging stations in the city. NMC proposed 20 EV charging stations at Rs 10 crore through the funds received under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). NMC deployed a Delhi-based private firm to set up the charging stations. The deadline to set up all the EV charging stations was March-end this year, but the civic body could operate seven EV charging stations so far. Hence, the commissioner has instructed civic officials to operate the remaining charging stations. NMC officials said "Work for 10 EV charging stations has completed. We will soon complete the work for the other three stations. All stations should operate by mid-Sept," said an NMC official. These seven locations, where EV charging stations were made operational, include Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Pramod Mahajan Garden on Gangapur Road, open space of the civic body on Ambad Link Road, Satpur Fire Station, Krishi Nagar Jogging Track in Nashik West Division, Satpur Divisional Office premises, and near Mahatma Nagar Cricket Ground. Each EV charging station has the capacity to charge two four-wheelers and six two-wheelers at a time, said a senior NMC official.
