The unexpected $19 item from Bunnings that's transformed how I eat dinner: 'Blown away'

An unexpected $18.98 item from Bunnings has been flying off shelves - with many saying it's the ultimate kitchen tool for epic dinner nights.
The gyros skewer tray has been a crowd favourite in Australian homes for cooking skewered meats for popular dishes including gyros, kebab, souvlaki, tandoori, shawarma and more.
With a 20cm skewer, it can hold enough marinated meat to feed a large family, and the deep tray will contain juices while cooking to prevent overflow and mess.
Once the meat is cooked and sliced, the skewer can be removed to serve in the tray.
It fits perfectly under the hood of most gas and solid fuel barbecues and smokers, as well as in conventional ovens.
The gyros skewer tray will have everyone talking at your next dinner party as it makes a great centrepiece for the table, surrounded by an array of fresh toppings.
Aussie mum Eisha Eisel shared her rave review on social media, saying it's the 'best find' from Bunnings.
'I stumbled across a gyros tray at Bunnings and instantly knew we had to make chicken gyros at home,' she said.
To make her own chicken marinade, she mixed together Greek yoghurt, olive oil, garlic, paprika, oregano, cumin, onion powder, salt, pepper and lemon juice.
'I let it sit in the fridge for a few hours to let it soak up all the flavour. I pulled out my gyros tray, popped it together and started stacking my marinated chicken pieces onto the skewer,' she said.
'We cooked it low and slow on the barbecue with the lid down for about an hour and a half until it was golden with crispy edges, cooked through.
'Chicken needs an internal temperature of 70°C to 75°C to be ready. A meat thermometer is really handy when cooking a roast on the BBQ or in the oven.'
Eisha served the chicken with flatbread, chips, salad and garlic yoghurt sauce.
'I was honestly so shocked at how juicy it turned out,' she said.
'It was packed full of flavour, it really blew me away. It had full food truck vibes at home and everyone loved it.
'It was hands down one of our favourite dinners.'
She said the tray was 'surprisingly super easy' to clean after using.
'We just popped a bit of water into the tray and let it simmer on the barbecue or stovetop for a few minutes. Then everything washes away fairly easily,' she said.

The product has been given a near-perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars online.
'Simple product but also well-built and serves the purpose. Cooked many gyros and souvlakis on the charcoals, but got this one to use in the oven for a bit more simplicity. Easy to clean and store away. Good size, fits 10 chicken thighs with a potato sitting on the bottom for clearance,' one shopper raved.
'Gave this a shot, it's a hit! Great idea and so easy to use and clean,' another said.
Many suggested adding an onion to the base to prevent the chicken from burning.
'I bought this too. Skewer half an onion on the bottom and top of the chicken so it doesn't burn and you get all that lovely cooked onion too,' one shared.
Meanwhile, dozens of shoppers said they were keen to add the tray to their cart.
'OMG I'm excited! I can't wait to buy one,' one said.
'I need to make a trip to Bunnings,' another shared.

Do Naplan results matter? Who are they even for?

Every year, Naplan results are released, and every year there's an annual media frenzy and resulting panic for educators and parents alike. Australia's largest nationwide standardised test, Naplan was launched in 2008 to assess students across the country in literacy and numeracy. The test is meant to help governments, education authorities and schools determine whether students are meeting performance targets, and compare between jurisdictions and demographics. Flash forward to 2025, and Naplan has become a very different beast. The tests have been criticised for placing unnecessary pressure on young students, exacerbated by the media coverage hyping up high performers and pointing the finger over low results. Guardian Australia's education reporter, Caitlin Cassidy, explains

Famous Australian Catholic priest Father Chris Riley dies aged 70

Founder of Youth Off The Streets, Father Chris Riley AM, has died aged 70. 'He was a tireless advocate for homeless and disadvantaged youth, and he inspired and changed thousands of young lives,' chairperson of the charity's board Anne Fitzgerald said. Riley worked with disadvantaged youth for more than 35 years in a variety of roles including teacher, youth worker, probation officer, residential carer and principal. He officially founded Youth Off The Streets in 1991. As CEO of Youth Off The Streets, Riley oversaw the operation of over 25 programs which employ over 180 staff and involve more than 250 volunteers. He had implemented innovative behaviour modification strategies to help young people deal with a history of trauma, abuse and neglect. Many of these strategies have been adopted by schools across Australia and by government agencies. Riley was famous for saying there was no such thing as a 'child born bad', but acknowledges that there are bad environments, circumstances and families that impact negatively on our young. 'We must have the courage to demand greatness from our youth'
