Young Ambassador nominations are now open
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — There is still time to nominate students for the Sioux City Young Ambassador program, but the deadline is coming quickly.
The Sioux City Mayor's Youth Commission is accepting applications for its Young Ambassadors program until June 20. The Young Ambassadors program honors students who have displayed exceptional leadership and character both in and out of the classroom.
Students currently in 4th through 7th grade are eligible. The student must be enrolled in a Sioux City public or private school, reside in Sioux City but attend a school outside Sioux City, or be home-schooled in Sioux City.

According to a press release, 'Nominations will be made online by teachers, counselors, parents, or adult friends of the nominee.' There will be a Young Ambassadors Parents Form link given to the parents/guardians of the nominee for them to submit. This form must be submitted for the student's name to be officially placed into the competition.
Once all nominations are in, students will be selected and mentored by members of the Sioux City Mayor's Youth Commission. The students selected will receive a free Young Ambassadors t-shirt. Along with the shirt, those selected will receive public recognition at 7 p.m. in the Sioux City Council Chambers, located on the 5th floor of City Hall. This recognition will take place on September 8 at 7 p.m..
Anyone interested in submitting an application is asked to visit the Young Ambassadors Nomination pagr. Both the Youth Ambassadors Nomination application and the Youth Ambassadors Parent Form are located at the bottom of the page. The deadline to submit nominations is June 20. 'This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy history, public speaking, or simply want to get involved in their community,' said Founding Curator Larry Obermeyer. 'We welcome anyone curious to learn and excited to share the story of our railroad heritage.' The museum said that no experience is necessary, and those interested should attend a tour on a Saturday or Sunday to check out a tour and speak with Obermeyer about volunteering. Sheldon man dead following motorcycle crash, Sheriff's Office says
SHELDON, Iowa (KCAU) — A Sheldon man killed as a result of a motorcycle crash late Wednesday, the Sioux County Sheriff's Office said. Wednesday night, the Sioux County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident involving a motorcycle just south of Sheldon, Iowa. Jeremy Korth, 27, of Sheldon, was reportedly going south on Highway 60 when he left the roadway and entered the west ditch. Korth was ejected as the motorcycle rolled.
