This month PC Gamer delivers world-exclusive access to the stunning new The Sims rival, inZOI, which looks set to steal the life sim throne. For our authoritative cover feature, PC Gamer speaks directly with the game's director, Hyungjun Kim, about every facet of the game, from its comprehensive character creator, to its setting, characters, and story, through to its unique gameplay mechanics, such as an NPC character who is controlled by AI.
Kim speaks eloquently about his game, the life sim genre, and the video game industry in general, bringing his trademark philosophical flair to the conversation. A must-read for any fan of the life sim genre, and especially those who have sunk hundreds of hours into The Sims over the last couple of decades.
This issue also features another fantastic feature. As we review Sid Meier's Civilization 7 in this issue of the magazine, we thought there was no better time to take a look back at the Civilization series as a whole, starting with the landmark 1991 original release. Not only do we then proceed to showcase each game in the series in this feature, talking about what they delivered to gamers and how they evolved the initial Civ formula, but we also speak directly to a Firaxis Games veteran who has worked on many of the series' best games for the inside scoop on what it's like to make a Civilization game. For strategy fans this is an essential read.
Then, in terms of previews, this issue sees PC Gamer deliver our hot take on Doom: The Dark Ages, the hyper-violent new entry in the long-running FPS series that sees the Doom Slayer fight through a medieval hellscape with big guns, a chainsaw shield and a trio of deadly hand-to-hand weapons. For gamers who found the acrobatic madness of Doom Eternal a little off-putting, The Dark Ages looks like a return to more of the original Doom reboot formula, with ground-based combat against hordes of demonic foes the name of the game. Oh, and there are rideable dragons and a giant mech to pilot, too. Hype!
Then, over in reviews land, the PC Gamer reviews machine tackles epic turn-based strategy game, Sid Meier's Civilization 7, as well as Orks Must Die! Deathtrap, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, Eternal Strands, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, along with other games, too.
All that plus a group test of six new motherboards to consider building your next PC gaming rig around, a reinstall of the epic strategy game Total War: Warhammer III, the continuation of a hijinx-filled diary following undead hero Mister Fibula's misadventures in Divinity Original Sin II, a look at the fantastic new Half-Life 2 mod The Burton Equation, a passionate arguement for how villainesses make any game better, a detailed guide to thriving in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's medieval world, a tour of the very latest PC gaming experiences coming out of Japan, including Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Suikoden I & II Remaster, an update on everything new Hunt: Showdown 1896, a fresh dispatch from The Spy, a new case to be cracked for the PCG Investigator, Dick Ray-Tracing, and much more too. Enjoy the issue!
Issue 407 is on shelves now and available on all your digital devices from the App Store and Zinio. You can also order directly from Magazines Direct or purchase a subscription to save yourself some cash, receive monthly deliveries, and get incredibly stylish subscriber-only covers.
Enjoy the issue!

Prince William Is Aiming for a "Diana Reboot of the Monarchy" When He Becomes King, Per Royal Author

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. When Prince William ascends the throne one day, insiders say he won't just be continuing the legacy of his father, King Charles, or his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth—he'll be reshaping the monarchy with his own bold vision. Focusing on less talk and more action, the Prince of Wales intends to prioritize projects and events that drive actual change versus cutting ribbons. According to royal author Edward White, it's a blend of Princess Diana and the late Queen in terms of philosophy. White, who wrote Dianaworld: An Obsession, recently told the Mirror that the late princess was keen to bring Prince William up in a way that would help keep the Royal Family relevant. But in doing so, the Prince of Wales developed his own strategy that also pays tribute to his late mother. "Diana said that she was trying to raise a future king that would ensure the monarchy survived into the 21st century—and William is trying to do a Diana reboot of the monarchy, combining the best of his mother and his grandmother," he told the media outlet. View Deal Like his mother, Prince William is passionate about the issue of homelessness, and last year, released the ITV documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness. In the program, he talked about his mother brought him to shelters, revealing that as an adult, he struggles with "not doing more." "I've spent enough time learning and listening to what people have been through that I feel almost guilty every time I leave," he admitted. As King, William seems determined to change the narrative around shaking hands and making appearances versus being able to help in a more concrete way—much like Diana did. "She seemed to think that if she wasn't taking the most extreme course of action to remedy a problem, then she wasn't actually taking any action at all," White told the Mirror. As for Prince William, "I've often heard him say, 'There's been too much talk about that. We need to see some action,'" said William Hague, who works with the Prince of Wales on the Royal Foundation's United for Wildlife initiative (via the Times). Princess Diana was open about her thoughts and feelings in a way the public hadn't seen before with royalty, and while speaking to journalists in South Africa during his 2024 Earthshot Prize trip, William said he wants to make the monarchy feel more relatable to the younger generation. "I can only describe what I'm trying to do and that's trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation," he said. "I'm doing it with maybe a smaller r in the royal, if you like, that's maybe a better way of saying it."

Prince William Announces New Appearance With an Unexpected Sidekick Instead of Princess Kate

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. As the future King, Prince William not only holds the title of Prince of Wales, but he's also known as the Duke of Cornwall—and on Tuesday, June 3, Kensington Palace announced William be marking a royal first. The Duke of Cornwall will attend The Royal Cornwall Show for the first time on Friday, June 6. But Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cornwall, won't be joining in the fun at the agricultural festival. Prince William's aunt Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh—who serves as patron of the Association of Agricultural Show Organisations and vice president of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association—will join him at the show on Friday. The Duchess of Edinburgh has been married to William's uncle Prince Edward since 1999 and shares a close relationship with the Prince of Wales and his family. She's said to have been an especially strong support for the Princess of Wales as she battled cancer in 2024. William, who serves as patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, will be visiting the event with Sophie "to celebrate and highlight the very best in Cornish heritage and tradition through agriculture, food and drink, entertainment and competition," per Kensington Palace. The duo will first enjoy some local food and drink at the Royal Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion, featuring Cornish favorites like jams, cheeses, gin and other delicacies. The royals will then head their separate ways to focus on their individual causes. Prince William will visit hubs focusing on rural mental health and nature partnerships, and will also present the Duke of Cornwall's award for sustainable approaches to farming, forestry and/or food production. As for Sophie, who last visited the show in 2014, she'll visit two of her patronages, Linking Environment and Farming, and Girl Guides, who have helped run the Royal Cornwall Show for many years. While Princess Kate won't be joining them at the event, it's expected she'll participate in The King's annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, next Saturday, June 14.

TTWO Q1 Earnings Call: Revenue Misses Expectations, Guidance Highlights Mobile and Franchise Momentum

Video game publisher Take Two (NASDAQ:TTWO) fell short of the market's revenue expectations in Q1 CY2025, but sales rose 13.1% year on year to $1.58 billion. Its GAAP loss of $21.08 per share decreased from -$17.02 in the same quarter last year. Is now the time to buy TTWO? Find out in our full research report (it's free). Revenue: $1.58 billion (13.1% year-on-year growth) Adjusted Operating Income: $252.8 million vs analyst estimates of $271.8 million (16% margin, 7% miss) Revenue Guidance for Q2 CY2025 is $1.38 billion at the midpoint, above analyst estimates of $1.31 billion EPS (GAAP) guidance for the upcoming financial year 2026 is $0.17 at the midpoint, missing analyst estimates by 82.3% EBITDA guidance for the upcoming financial year 2026 is $535 million at the midpoint, below analyst estimates of $1.97 billion Adjusted EBITDA Margin: 18.5% Market Capitalization: $42 billion Take-Two's first quarter results were shaped by a mix of new game launches across its core labels and ongoing strength in established franchises. Management credited the launch of Sid Meier's Civilization VII, WWE 2K25, and PGA TOUR 2K25, as well as strong engagement from NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto titles, for driving revenue growth. CEO Strauss Zelnick highlighted that NBA 2K25 saw a 7% year-on-year increase in units sold, with engagement metrics like daily active users and average games per user up significantly. The company also noted robust performance from mobile subsidiary Zynga, especially new titles like Match Factory and Color Block Jam, both of which contributed to higher recurrent consumer spending. CFO Lainie Goldstein attributed the quarter's margin pressures to higher development costs for unreleased titles and noted a partial goodwill impairment charge tied to updated long-term expectations for one business unit. Looking forward, management emphasized a pipeline of major releases and a continued focus on operating efficiency as key to future growth. Take-Two expects NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto, and new launches such as Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4 to be the primary drivers for the year ahead. Zelnick stated, 'We expect sequential growth for both this year and next, even before Grand Theft Auto VI is released.' Goldstein pointed to a modest increase in operating expenses, mainly for marketing upcoming titles, but assured investors that expense growth is expected to lag behind revenue growth. Management also signaled that the share of direct-to-consumer revenue should expand, aided by recent court rulings, and cautioned that mobile trends may moderate due to the maturity of certain Zynga titles. Management attributed the quarter's performance to strong franchise engagement, new title launches, and stabilization in mobile, while margin headwinds stemmed from higher development costs and a goodwill impairment. NBA 2K engagement surge: NBA 2K25 outperformed internal forecasts, with unit sales up 7% over last year and significant gains in user engagement metrics; management credited improved features and a focus on core player demands. Mobile titles drive growth: Zynga's new games, including Match Factory and Color Block Jam, achieved profitability quickly and contributed to both net bookings and engagement; management cited the multi-studio approach as a competitive advantage. Recurrent spending momentum: Recurring in-game purchases across NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto Online, and mobile titles grew 14% year-on-year, now accounting for 77% of net bookings in the quarter, with NBA 2K's in-game monetization up over 40%. Cost and margin pressures: Operating expenses rose due to higher development outlays for games not yet released, with Goldstein noting that a $3.6 billion impairment hit operating margins, partly reflecting updated expectations for Zynga. Direct-to-consumer channel expansion: The company highlighted growing direct-to-consumer sales, especially in mobile, and expects recent court decisions to further reduce third-party distribution costs and allow more direct customer relationships. Take-Two's outlook is anchored by major new title launches, franchise strength, and a focus on cost control amid moderating mobile trends. New game pipeline: Management expects Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4, along with annual sports iterations, to drive sequential growth and maintain player engagement ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI's release. Operating efficiency initiatives: Cost discipline through a previously announced reduction program is intended to offset rising development and marketing costs, with management aiming for operating expense leverage as net bookings grow. Mobile market headwinds: While Zynga's recent hits support optimism, Goldstein warned that some mature mobile titles may see softer trends, potentially moderating overall mobile segment growth despite ongoing investment in new launches. In the coming quarters, the StockStory team will be watching (1) player response and engagement metrics for new releases like Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4, (2) the performance and monetization trajectory of Zynga's recent and upcoming mobile launches, and (3) the ramp-up of direct-to-consumer initiatives as regulatory and legal changes unfold. Execution on operating efficiency and the lead-up to Grand Theft Auto VI remain key markers of progress. Take-Two currently trades at a forward EV/EBITDA ratio of 19.4×.
