Karun Nair Reveals Dressing Room Talk: 'Gauti Bhai Said, He Doesn't Want...'
Karun Nair revealed what the message was from head coach Gautam Gambhir's aheqad of India's tour of England.
As Shubman Gill's India travelled to England for a five-Test series, the spotlight was on a team in transition. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently retired, questions arose about whether the young side could handle the challenge.
Former cricketers voiced doubts, but Gill's men silenced them by matching Bazball-powered England blow for blow, securing a 2-2 draw. Days after the thrilling win at The Oval, Karun Nair revealed head coach Gautam Gambhir's pivotal message in the dressing room.
'Right at the very beginning, Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] bhai said, he doesn't want us to look at it as a team in transition," Karun Nair was quoted as saying to ESPNCricinfo.
'He didn't want us to feel that way. The first message we got was 'this isn't a young team, this is a gun team and everyone must feel it from within'. The messaging within the group was that everyone plays for the team and supports each other. It's one thing for the coach or the captain to say it, but to feel it was amazing," he added.
What Did Nair Say About Gill?
Nair's personal form was modest — 205 runs from eight innings at an average of 25.62, with one fifty — but he was quick to praise Gill's leadership.
'The way Shubman held everyone together and the encouragement he gave was great to see. He was crystal clear with his communication from the beginning. To achieve what he did as a batter, while also leading the team…as a leader, he exemplified the spirit of Gauti bhai," Karun Nair said.
India's next Test series, at home against West Indies, begins on October 6 in Ahmedabad, followed by the second Test in Delhi on October 10. Nair, recovering from a finger injury that ruled him out of the 2025 Duleep Trophy and part of the Maharaja Trophy T20, faces a race against time to prove his fitness and retain his spot.

Shai Hope Becomes 1st West Indies Captain In 34 Years To...
Last Updated: Shai Hope scored 120 runs from 94 balls for West Indies in the third and final ODI of the three-match series played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on August 12. Shai Hope scored 120 runs from 94 balls for the West Indies on Tuesday (August 12) to help them secure a big win by 202 runs over Pakistan. In the third and final ODI of the three-match series played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Hope's 18th ODI century helped West Indies post a total of 294/6 in 50 overs, and the target of 295 runs proved too much for the visitors, and they got all out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs. The win in the third ODI helped West Indies seal the home series with a scoreline of 2-1. The last time the West Indies won a bilateral ODI series against the Pakistani team was way back in November 1991. Under Richie Richardson's leadership, West Indies won the first and third ODIs against the Imran Khan-led side in Pakistan, whereas the second 50-over match in Lahore on November 22, 1991, ended in a tie. For his super show with the bat in the series decider, Hope won the Player of the Match award. The wicketkeeper-batter hammered 10 fours and five sixes during his stay at the crease on Tuesday. 23-year-old fast bowler entered his name in the history books on Tuesday (August 12) by becoming the first West Indies bowler to take six wickets in an ODI match against the Pakistani team. The Trinidad & Tobago-born cricketer led the West Indies bowling attack in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Tuesday and picked up 6 wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs. Before Seales, the record of best bowling figures by a West Indies bowler in ODIs against Pakistan was in the name of Franklyn Rose. Rose picked up 5 wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs against Pakistan during the ODI match played in Kingstown on April 12, 2000. Seales's figures of 6 for 18 in 7.2 overs are the third best by a West Indies bowler in ODIs. He is only behind Winston Davis, who picked up 7 wickets for 51 runs in 10.3 overs against Australia in 1983, and Colin Croft, who finished with figures of 6 for 15 in nine overs against England in Kingstown on February 4, 1981. Seales' 6/18 also helped him break Dale Steyn's record of best bowling figures in ODIs against Pakistan. view comments First Published: August 13, 2025, 03:38 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Jayden Seales Breaks Dale Steyn's Record Of Best Bowling Figures In ODIs Against Pakistan
Last Updated: Seales bowled 7.2 overs for the West Indies on Tuesday at Brian Lara Stadium and picked up six wickets for 18 runs in the 202-run win. West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales picked up six wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs on Tuesday (August 12) against Pakistan in Tarouba to help the Shai Hope-led side win the third and final ODI of the bilateral series by 202 runs. In the third ODI, Seales produced one of the best bowling figures in ODI history to help the West Indies bowl Pakistan out for just 92 runs. The figures of 6 for 18 in 7.2 overs at Brian Lara Stadium helped Seales break Dale Steyn's record of best bowling figures in ODIs against the Pakistani team. Steyn picked up 6 wickets for 39 runs in nine overs against the Men in Green on November 27, 2013, in Gqeberha. Seales is only the third bowler in history to dismiss at least six Pakistani batters in an ODI match. Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera was the first one to achieve the feat. During the Sri Lanka-Pakistan ODI match played in Pallekele on June 9, 2012, Perera bowled 10 overs and picked up six wickets for 44 runs. In the third ODI of the home series against the Pakistani team, 23-year-old Seales opened his wicket account by getting Saim Ayub caught behind by Shai Hope for a three-ball duck. In his next over he picked up Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan's wickets in back-to-back balls. While Shaifque was caught by Gudakesh Motie for an eight-ball duck, Seales clean bowled Rizwan for a golden duck. In his fifth over of the match, Seales trapped Babar Azam (9 runs) in front of the wickets and completed his five-wicket haul by taking Naseem Shah's catch off his own bowling. Seales' sixth and final wicket of the match came in the form of Hasan Ali. The Pakistani pacer was clean bowled by him for a three-ball duck. Seales' super show with the ball helped West Indies bowl Pakistan out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs and win the third ODI by 202 runs. view comments First Published: August 13, 2025, 02:29 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
