Shai Hope scored 120 runs from 94 balls for West Indies in the third and final ODI of the three-match series played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on August 12.
Shai Hope scored 120 runs from 94 balls for the West Indies on Tuesday (August 12) to help them secure a big win by 202 runs over Pakistan. In the third and final ODI of the three-match series played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Hope's 18th ODI century helped West Indies post a total of 294/6 in 50 overs, and the target of 295 runs proved too much for the visitors, and they got all out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs.
The win in the third ODI helped West Indies seal the home series with a scoreline of 2-1. The last time the West Indies won a bilateral ODI series against the Pakistani team was way back in November 1991.
Under Richie Richardson's leadership, West Indies won the first and third ODIs against the Imran Khan-led side in Pakistan, whereas the second 50-over match in Lahore on November 22, 1991, ended in a tie.
For his super show with the bat in the series decider, Hope won the Player of the Match award.
The wicketkeeper-batter hammered 10 fours and five sixes during his stay at the crease on Tuesday.
23-year-old fast bowler entered his name in the history books on Tuesday (August 12) by becoming the first West Indies bowler to take six wickets in an ODI match against the Pakistani team.
The Trinidad & Tobago-born cricketer led the West Indies bowling attack in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on Tuesday and picked up 6 wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs.
Before Seales, the record of best bowling figures by a West Indies bowler in ODIs against Pakistan was in the name of Franklyn Rose. Rose picked up 5 wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs against Pakistan during the ODI match played in Kingstown on April 12, 2000.
Seales's figures of 6 for 18 in 7.2 overs are the third best by a West Indies bowler in ODIs. He is only behind Winston Davis, who picked up 7 wickets for 51 runs in 10.3 overs against Australia in 1983, and Colin Croft, who finished with figures of 6 for 15 in nine overs against England in Kingstown on February 4, 1981.
Seales' 6/18 also helped him break Dale Steyn's record of best bowling figures in ODIs against Pakistan.

"You're Smelling Like Indian Curry": Irfan Pathan Reveals Facing Racial Remarks During 2008 Perth Test

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently revealed the reason behind his famous 'tongue out' celebration from the 2008 Test against Australia in Perth. Irfan had a great career with India, where he played 169 international matches and scored 2821 runs. Apart from this, he also scalped 293 wickets. He gave many match-winning performances for India and retired as one of the greats in 2012. If he talk about the rivalry, India and Australia share a cut-throat competition with each other and over the years, fans have witnessed a tough fight during their games. During the 2008, a similar incident took place, which left Irfan fuming. The former all-rounder revealed that he was facing racial remarks from Australian fans while he was fielding at the boundary line. "When I was fielding at the boundary line, they targeted me by saying things like, 'You have eaten Indian curry, you're smelling like Indian curry.' The Australian crowd try to get under your skin. I didn't change my field position and instead gave them replies," Irfan said during an interview with The Lallantop. "When I took a wicket, I took my tongue out to indicate that my tongue is very clean and there's no smell. So, that celebration was for the crowd," he added. For the unversed, India went on to win the Pert Test in 2008 by 72 runs. Irfan was awarded the Player of the Match for his all-round performance. He scored 28 and 26 runs with the bat and also scalped five wickets. Irfan also narrated the tale of his ouster from the Indian team, recalling how former captain MS Dhoni forced him out of the team in spite of him performing well and winning games for the side. "It was back in 2009, when we were in New Zealand. Before that, my brother (Yusuf Pathan) and I had won matches in Sri Lanka. The situation in which we had pulled a win - if it had been anyone else in our place, they wouldn't have been dropped for a year. In that match against Sri Lanka, we needed 60 runs from just 27-28 balls, and we won it from there," Irfan told The Lallantop. "In New Zealand, I was benched for the first match, the second match, and the third match as well. The fourth match was a draw because of rain. I wasn't in the final match either. Then I asked Gary sir why I had been dropped. If there was something I needed to improve, he could tell me, but I wanted to know the reason I was left out," he added.

47-Year-Old Man Arrested For Racial Abuse At Antonie Semenyo In PL Opener

Last Updated: A man was arrested after AFC Bournemouth's Antonie Semenyo reported racial abuse during a game against Liverpool. A man was arrested after AFC Bournemouth forward Antonie Semenyo reported racial abuse directed at him from the stands during a game against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. The Premier League opener between champions Liverpool and Bournemouth was halted for several minutes in the first half due to an allegation of 'discriminatory abuse" from a supporter towards Semenyo. Play resumed, and an anti-discrimination message was later read out to the crowd at half-time. Merseyside Police confirmed on Saturday that a 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and taken into custody for questioning. Earlier, Semenyo expressed his gratitude on social media for the support he received after the incident, highlighting the unity of the football community. 'Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever – not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together. 'To my @afcb teammates who supported me in that moment, to the @liverpoolfc players and fans who showed their true character, to the @premierleague officials who handled it professionally – thank you. 'The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together," Semenyo's social media post read. Among those who supported Semenyo were Liverpool head coach and captain Arne Slot. (With IANS Inputs) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Big Boost For India! Suyakumar Yadav Clears Crucial Test Before Asia Cup Selection

Last Updated: India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav cleared a fitness test at BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup selection meeting on August 19 in Mumbai. India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly cleared a fitness test at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, crucially in time for the board's selection meeting regarding the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Suryakumar underwent surgery for a lower abdomen hernia in Germany in June. The selection committee will convene in Mumbai on August 19 to discuss and announce the squad for the T20 multi-nation tournament. Suryakumar is expected to be present alongside chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with many pivotal calls set to be taken for India's T20I future. 'He has cleared his fitness and will be available to captain the Indian team during the Asia Cup," The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying. 'He was at the COE till a few days ago, where he underwent a rehab programme and has now been declared fit. He will be attending the Indian team selection meeting." The 34-year-old has recently been rocked by injuries. He went under the knife for a similar sports hernia injury last year, too. The year before that, he underwent surgery for an ankle issue. This time, he was said to have consulted a doctor in the United Kingdom after IPL 2025. India will hope that the recurrent injuries don't hamper his preparations for a crucial patch of T20I cricket. India's Asia Cup campaign begins on September 10 against the UAE. Suryakumar is the sixth-ranked T20I batter in the ICC rankings but is widely considered one of the best in Indian history, and thus crucial to the team's hopes of defending the title. Will Suryakumar pick his successor? Although Suryakumar has a goos few years of cricket ahead of him, a lot of the talk ahead of the Asia Cup team selection has surrounded around who'd be his successor. Axar Patel is the current vice-captain, and he's 31, but Shubman Gill's success with the Test team has shaken things up, if reports are to be believed. Some believe that this is the right time to appoint Gill as the T20I vice-captain, like in ODIs, to prepare him for eventually taking over from Suryakumar. However, he's a top-order player, and the current top-three of India — Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma — have been in good form and enjoy the team's backing. The team's selection will not only decide India's Asia Cup future but also view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
