South Africa: President Ramaphosa concludes meeting between the National Executive and the Northern Cape Provincial Executive Council
The meeting, held under the theme 'Unlocking the Northern Cape potential as a modern, growing and successful province', was the sixth formal engagement that the national executive had with a provincial executive.
The meeting was also joined by Executive Mayors.
Previous sessions include meetings with the Executive Councils of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and most recently, the Eastern Cape.
These sessions have resulted in strengthening cooperative governance, breaking down silos and cooperative project planning that leads to collaborative execution.
As President Ramaphosa said during the Budget Debate last week, when the three spheres of government work together, the lives of the people of South Africa are improved.
It is envisaged that the National Executive would have met with the leadership of the remaining provinces over the next few months.
The President emphasised the importance of structured engagements between the national and provincial executives that assist government coordinate more efficiently, resolve challenges together and to plan smarter.
The meetings are also meant to facilitate innovative ideas and proposals to address service delivery and skills challenges.
The meeting discussed the ongoing roll out of catalytic economic development projects that require the deepening of cooperation between the national and provincial governments.
These include the Boegoebaai Harbor and SEZ development, revitalisation and expansion of Vaalharts, Namakwa SEZ and the development of the infrastructure masterplan.
The meeting further affirmed closer cooperation on issues of climate change mitigation considering the province's vulnerability to erratic weather conditions.
The national executive pledged to continue working closely with the province in areas of Transport and Logistics, Basic Education, Water and Sanitation infrastructure development, Human Settlements, Tourism and Energy and Electricity.

Workshop on Documentation and Distribution of Vegetable Seeds
The Ministry of Agriculture organized a workshop to discuss a draft resolution aimed at documenting and distribution of vegetable seeds developed at agricultural research centers and those entering the country through various means. The seminar was attended by Ministry staff from all regions and agricultural experts. Mr. Tekleab Misgina, Director General of Regulatory Services at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the national committee established in 2024 to regulate the distribution and quality of various crops, cereals, and oil seeds has commenced its activities by developing a guideline to support its operations. In the first half of 2025, a guideline to regulate potato seed quality was prepared, and regulations for vegetable seed quality have been finalized. Mr. Tekleab added that both domestically improved and imported vegetable seeds will be assessed through specific quality measures, documented, and issued certificates before being distributed to farmers. At the workshop, participants discussed papers on the importance of documentation and regulation of vegetable seeds, and the significance of adhering to established guidelines and regulations. ADFD advances Maldives aviation sector through the Inauguration of Velana International Airport project
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Aligned with its commitment to its strategic sustainable development goals, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) participated in the inauguration the Velana International Airport, a landmark project that aims to significantly enhance Maldives' infrastructure. With a total investment of AED 330.5 million (USD 90 million) from ADFD, the project was implemented in two phases, receiving co-financing from Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and OPEC Fund for International Development. This cooperation highlights the shared commitment of regional development institutions to support high impact projects in developing nations to contribute to an inclusive, sustainable growth. Attending the inauguration ceremony, which coincided with Maldives' 60th independence anniversary, were His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD, and His Excellency Rahma bin Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives, along with senior officials from both nations and from Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and OPEC Fund for International Development. ADFD's funding played a critical role in enhancing the operational capacity of Velana International Airport, accommodating over 7 million passengers annually meeting the nation's growing travel demand. The project included the expansion of the airport's western passenger terminal, the implementation of 26 passenger boarding bridges, and the construction of a state-of-the-art international terminal. These enhancements reinforce the Maldives' position as a key hub for commercial, tourism, and investment activities, and underscore the Fund's commitment to supporting impactful, sustainable projects that improve the quality of life in communities. H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, during the ceremony, expressed his sincere appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for the continuous support from the UAE to advance Maldives' national goals. He said: "ADFD's financing of Velana International Airport, in partnership with international collaborators, reflects our shared commitment to achieving sustainable development goals and demonstrates a long-term strategic vision for infrastructure development and growth in developing nations. The opening of this airport will further enhance the Maldives' position in the global aviation sector." His Excellency Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD, highlighted that this collaborative development is a testament to ADFD's dedication to supporting the sustainable development goals of its partner nations. He reaffirmed the Fund's mission towards strengthening strategic partnerships between regional development institutions and international organizations, fostering broader and more sustainable developmental impacts. Al Suwaidi said: 'Through our partnership with the Government of Maldives and regional development institutions, we have collectively contributed to country's economic and social growth. President Mahama Unveils Road Master Plan to Transform Oti Region
President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the Oti Region will receive its fair share of resources from the national budget to develop critical infrastructure, including roads, education and health. Describing this as a top national priority, President Mahama mentioned in his address at a Thank You Tour durbar in Dambai, Oti Region, that these strategic investments are essential for unlocking the full economic potential of the Volta Basin and for Ghana's overall progress. The President made these pronouncements while addressing a vibrant durbar of Chiefs and people at the Dambai College of Education, marking the last stop of his 'Thank You Tour' across all 16 regions of Ghana. He assured residents that the vital Eastern Corridor Road, a cornerstone of national transportation, would be fully completed during his tenure. President Mahama recognised that the Oti Region plays a pivotal role as a key transit zone for goods and food between the North and South. He also announced that the completion of the Nkwanta-Kpassa-Oti Damanko stretch of the Eastern Corridor is fully secured, with contracts already signed and contractors mobilised to the site for immediate commencement. This commitment was met with enthusiastic cheers from the appreciative audience. Beyond this, the President detailed an extensive list of other critical road projects earmarked for rapid execution. President Mahama confirmed that funding for the project has been secured in the mid-year budget, pledging its commencement within the year. 'I will personally return to cut the sod for this bridge, marking the start of a new chapter for connectivity,' he declared. President Mahama also revealed that technical costing and procurement processes are underway for additional road projects across the Kete-Krachi, Krachi Nchumuru, and Guan Districts.
