Sourdough dessert challenge ends in tears as beloved MasterChef Australia: Back To Win contestant is sent home
It was never going to be an easy challenge when O.MY restaurant's Blayne Bertoncello walked through the MasterChef doors, especially when he introduced his Variations of Sourdough and Strawberry with Elderflower and Balsamic dessert.
However, when Rue, Tim, Audra and Sarah were tasked with remaking the dish perfectly for five plates, the pressure was at an all time high.
It soon became clear, this pressure test wasn't going to be a piece of cake.
The dish included a strawberry sorbet which sat atop a sourdough-infused crème pâtissière, a strawberry gum emulsion, macerated strawberries, sourdough tuilles and fried elderflower crisps - all finished off with a balsamic gel.

As Rue, Audra, and Tim all struggled with their emulsion, which split and was too runny when compared to Blayne's, the temperatures began to soar in the kitchen.
In the end, it was the dessert queen herself Rue Mupedzi who was sent home over her grainy crème pat.
In tears, Rue told the judges that it had been an honour cooking for them and being on the show for a second time around.
'Just being called back among such amazing chefs made me realise I'm also part of the great people,' she shared.
Jean-Christophe Novelli sang high praises of the contestant and her presence on the show.
'You are unique, you've got the most amazing spirit and, for me, I believe you are a ray of sunshine in any kitchen,' he told Rue in a heartfelt speech.
Speaking of her final cook with 10Play, Season 15's Rue was left disappointed after being eliminated in a challenge she considered to be her bread and butter.
'I really felt like this was a cook that I was supposed to shine in, and I didn't,' Rue said.
'You are unique, you've got the most amazing spirit and, for me, I believe you are a ray of sunshine in any kitchen,' Jean-Christophe Novelli told Rue in a heartfelt speech
'I had done all these elements over a thousand times, and somehow that didn't show. You couldn't see that on the plate.'
On Sunday night's episode, another MasterChef Australia: Back To Win elimination saw a talented chef put down their skillet for the final time in an action-packed, temperature-rising cook-off.
It was a lobster wonton that sent this ambitious candidate home following a prophetic insight and a broth that fell short.
Seafood connoisseur Josh Niland challenged the MasterChef Australia participants with a dish famed for its easygoing nature - but easygoing it wasn't.
The task was to create a surf and turf dish, with the chefs expected to put their own spin on the iconic food combo.
Season 14 runner up Rhiannon Anderson, 48, who chose to make lobster wontons paired with beef broth, wasn't confident from the get-go, confessing in her piece to camera that she could be the one cooking for the last time in the MasterChef kitchen.
And after ending up in the bottom three with Tim and Darrsh, she was proved right.
'It has to come back to flavour and texture, which is why I'm so sorry to say this, Rhi. I'm sorry, you're going home,' Andy Allen told the chef.
An emotional Rhi dubbed her second time round on the show a 'bloody epic experience' as she held back tears.
'How many people get to come back to win and just do what I've just done? And I've had an absolute blast.'
She went on to say that she'd be heading home to her husband and hopping right back into the kitchen.
'I'll just have to go home to Deano and cook him something. Not quite as much fun, but anyway.'

Tammy Hembrow shares shock video of herself sobbing and shaking during her marriage to Matt Zukowski: 'Never thought I'd share this'
Tammy Hembrow has shared a shocking video montage of the moments she broke down in tears throughout her marriage to Matt Zukowski. The fitness influencer, 31, who has recently made headlines for her Gold Coast tryst with AFL star Bailey Smith just weeks after her split from Matt, 30, uploaded the confronting clip to Instagram on Saturday. In the montage, Tammy could be seen sobbing and shaking throughout various videos, some of which saw her still wearing her wedding ring—indicating they were filmed during her marriage to Matt. 'It felt like the heaviness would never end,' Tammy wrote over the heartbreaking clips, one of which saw her slamming her fist to the ground as she cried. She also showed moments where her hands were trembling amid her breakdowns, and days when she found herself in tears while doing her hair. Tammy added the song To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra to the emotional video. But then the post took a hopeful turn as she added another montage which showed her smiling and spending time with her loved ones. 'But then I noticed the light creeping back in,' she wrote over this part of the video as the music became more upbeat. The huge engagement ring Matt had proposed to her with in December 2023 was notably missing from the final clips, indicating they had been filmed post-split. Tammy paired the video with a lengthy message to her followers, hinting at moments where she felt like she was 'drowning' in recent years. 'I made this so long ago and honestly never thought I'd share it,' she began. 'Watching it back makes me genuinely feel ill. But with everything happening right now if there was ever a time to share it… it's now. 'I'm posting this for the person who feels like they're drowning the way I once did. The person who can't see a way forward. I want you to know, it does get better. 'I PROMISE you. Some traumas shake you so deeply, they change the way you see literally everything.' The fitness influencer, who has recently made headlines for her Gold Coast tryst with AFL star Bailey Smith just weeks after her split from Matt (left), uploaded the confronting clip to Instagram on Saturday In the montage, Tammy could be seen sobbing and shaking throughout various videos, some of which saw her still wearing her wedding ring—indicating they were filmed during her marriage to Matt 'The world, the people around you… and even yourself. But little by little, the light comes back. No one else knows your whole story,' she continued. 'No one has felt what you've felt, seen what you've seen, or carried what you've carried. This is your life, your journey… but you are not alone in it. 'One day you'll look back and realise you survived what you thought would break you.' Tammy's message of inspiration comes after her recent steamy date with AFL star Bailey Smith, 24, flooded the headlines. The couple were caught making out during a dinner date on the Gold Coast last weekend, just weeks after she and Matt announced they were getting a divorce. Their surprising rendezvous had many talking, and even led to the sacking of community football coach John Baggetta on Friday after he made vile comments about the influencer online. Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Football Club formally sacked the league coach after he called the online sensation a 'c** bucket' on Facebook when photos of her date with Bailey emerged. Matt has since said he felt 'hurt' watching Tammy move on so quickly after their break-up, and has hinted he was the one to end things between them, despite some speculating it was Tammy who took the lead. 'A couple of months ago, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life. I decided to leave a relationship that I found was not right for me,' he told his Where's Your Head At? podcast co-host Anna McEvoy on Thursday. 'It was unhealthy for me.' Matt and Tammy got engaged in December 2023 after just three months of dating. They tied the knot almost a year later, in November 2024, but split rumours began to circulate earlier this year. In June, the pair announced they were divorcing after seven months of marriage.

Costeen Hatzi opens up on public breakup with tennis firebrand Nick Kyrgios and what she regrets about their time together
Costeen Hatzi had to endure the pain of a breakup being played out in public, but she found her own strength and has now spoken out about her high profile split from Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios. Hatzi is an Australian influencer and interior design graduate known for her strong social media presence, with over 174K followers on Instagram alone. However it was her high-profile relationship with tennis star Nick Kyrgios that really put her in the spotlight for most Australians. Hatzi and Kyrgios began dating in late 2021, with the tennis star confirming their relationship on Instagram in December that year. She quickly became a constant figure courtside, supporting him through the 2022 Australian Open where his fiery on-court antics drew headlines. Their relationship was often in the spotlight, with Kyrgios publicly praising Hatzi while also facing criticism for his behaviour during matches. Hatzi was a constant courtside presence during the 2022 Australian Open as Kyrgios drew headlines for his fiery play In early 2023, rumours of tension surfaced, fuelled by Kyrgios's absence from tournaments due to injury and speculation about their future. By mid-2024, Hatzi confirmed their split. Now she has spoken about the public breakup, the pain, and the healing she has needed to do since they parted ways. And Hatzi has also revealed the lengths she went to in order to keep Kyrgios happy, and the regrets she has from their time together. 'I was fully supportive,' she told News Corp. 'I went to all the tournaments. I was doing everything behind the scenes – his washing, his cooking … everything. 'I was happy to, because I loved him and we had a great relationship at the time. So I don't regret anything that I've done.' Hatzi said she had used the last year to work on her own career out of Kyrgios' shadow, which she admitted was tough at times. 'It's different now. I have all this time for myself. I'm in a really reflective but motivated place. It has definitely been a bit of an adjustment, but I mentally prepared myself for that; it wasn't a shock,' she said. 'This year has been like a transition period. Of course there are days where, you know, I'm not a hundred per cent happy, but I feel like I've been headstrong, and I have a positive outlook on life. 'Going through a break-up isn't going to tear me down or upset me too much. I just need to look forward and throw myself into work, throw myself into fitness – and that's what I've been doing, really. 'I have a lot of time on my hands now so I'm trying to grow and expand my business,' she says. 'I've been leaning deeper into my career with fashion and beauty and content creation. 'It's a big focus for me – building a brand that's accessible and empowering, and style forward for women. 'That chapter of my life was meaningful and I'm grateful for the memories and the growth that came with it. You know, life changes. 'And so do people. I'm really just embracing this next chapter of rediscovery and independence and building something that's truly mine.' And Hatzi credited her family and friends for giving her the strength to carry on after the breakdown of the long-term relationship in the public eye. 'They've given me great advice to just focus on myself and be the classier person when it comes to the break-up,' she said. 'I've really taken that on board, because I don't want to ruin his name. Sometimes my emotions get the better of me, but then I remember that it's not in my nature to say anything bad about him. 'We still had a beautiful relationship, even though things didn't turn out the way [I'd hoped]. I've found peace within myself, and I hope he's happy. I don't wish bad upon him at all.'

Inside Sydney Sweeney's wild boozy night out as she continues to blow off American Eagle controversy
Sydney Sweeney had a boozy night out with friends and she shared the photos from the wild experience on Instagram. The event took place inside a crowded venue as the Euphoria actress held up a tray of shots to hand out to her pals. The movie star had her blonde hair down with a fresh tropical tan as she smiled from ear to ear. She was also seen with a microphone on a stage. Hollywood's latest 'it' girl wore a farm-girl style white cotton crop top that flashed her toned tummy as she added oversized blue denim jeans and white sneakers. She was surrounded by hot men and pretty friends who were dressed to party the night away. 'Duval diaries,' was all the star wrote in her Instagram caption. Sweeney split from her fiancé, Jonathan Davino, eight months ago after they started dating in 2018 and got engaged in 2022. This comes on the heels of Sweeney's American Eagle drama. The A-list actress is the face of the label's autumn advertising rollout, which has the tagline, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.' American Eagle said the actress did nothing wrong with their ads after they were branded 'Nazi propaganda' by woke critics. Some saw her 'great jeans' campaign to be a remark on her genetic background which is mixed European ancestry; she grew up in rural Idaho. The phrase 'great genes' is 'historically used to celebrate whiteness, thinness and attractiveness,' which it said made 'this campaign seem to be a tone-deaf marketing move,' a Salon report on the backlash read. Others found the link 'ridiculous' and thought the ads were just fine. '"Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans" is and always was about the jeans,' the company said on Instagram. 'Her jeans. her story,' it was added. 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.' In a series of images, the Spokane, Washington-born beauty - who is set to play boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic - is seen modeling a variety of denim-based ensembles. In an accompanying video, Sydney is seen buttoning up her jeans as she muses: 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour... my genes are blue'. A second advert sees the camera pan down Sydney's chest as she models a plunging denim jumpsuit. She muses: 'My body's composition is determined by my genes...' before exclaiming: 'Hey, eyes up here' as the camera cuts back to her face. The advert has divided fans, however, with one critic calling the clip 'one of the loudest and most obvious racialized dog whistles we've seen and heard in a while.' Taking to social media, many expressed their shock at messaging, which they aligned to Nazi propaganda. Outraged fans penned: 'So Sydney (& American Eagle) somehow expect audiences to not interpret this visual as a euphemism for eugenics and white supremacy?' Some saw her 'great jeans' campaign to be a remark on her genetic background which is mixed European ancestry; she grew up in rural Idaho 'The Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad campaign is just modern day Nazi propaganda. Like it's wild how blatant it is. Things are weird right now, man.'; 'the most nazi part of the Sydney sweeney add for me was the use of the word offspring'; ''Jeans (Genes) are past down from parent to offspring' 'My jeans (genes) are blue' 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans (genes)' Nothing is ever a coincidence, this is eugenics'; TikTok named Angie under the handle @vital_media_marketing then reviewed the ad and pointed out what she felt were problematic elements with the underlying message. Angie said: 'As it's panning up her body and on her face and her features, she's literally talking about her family tree and the genetics that have been handed down to her, her blonde hair and her blue eyes, and how great they are.' Many people panned the tone of the ad campaign on American Eagle's Instagram page, as one user quipped, It's giving "Subtle 1930's Germany."' Yet many were quick to defend Sydney, branding the backlash 'unhinged'. They shared on X/Twitter: 'I'm not sure how to say this nicely but if you think a jeans ad with a pun about Sydney Sweeney being pretty is a nazi dogwhistle you genuinely need to put the phone down for a while.'; 'everyone is seriously reading too much into this and y'all need to go take a hike or something because sydney sweeney is literally just promoting jeans, not 'nazi propaganda''; 'The claim that Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad is pro-eugenics because of a 'good genes/jeans' pun is genuinely unhinged. It's a denim campaign, not a manifesto. Not every blonde with blue eyes is a Nazi. Some of you need a history book — and a nap'; 'You guys don't have to like Sydney Sweeney or the ways she promotes herself but don't you think comparing those Jean commercials to nazi propaganda is a tad extreme?' Sweeney said in a July 23 news release about the fall campaign: 'There is something so effortless about American Eagle.' She said of the clothier: 'It's the perfect balance of being put-together but still feeling like yourself.'
