Sourdough dessert challenge ends in tears as beloved MasterChef Australia: Back To Win contestant is sent home
MasterChef Australia: Back To Win said an emotional goodbye on Tuesday night's episode after a tricky pud packed the bags of a budding chef.
It was never going to be an easy challenge when O.MY restaurant's Blayne Bertoncello walked through the MasterChef doors, especially when he introduced his Variations of Sourdough and Strawberry with Elderflower and Balsamic dessert.
However, when Rue, Tim, Audra and Sarah were tasked with remaking the dish perfectly for five plates, the pressure was at an all time high.
It soon became clear, this pressure test wasn't going to be a piece of cake.
The dish included a strawberry sorbet which sat atop a sourdough-infused crème pâtissière, a strawberry gum emulsion, macerated strawberries, sourdough tuilles and fried elderflower crisps - all finished off with a balsamic gel.

As Rue, Audra, and Tim all struggled with their emulsion, which split and was too runny when compared to Blayne's, the temperatures began to soar in the kitchen.
In the end, it was the dessert queen herself Rue Mupedzi who was sent home over her grainy crème pat.
In tears, Rue told the judges that it had been an honour cooking for them and being on the show for a second time around.
'Just being called back among such amazing chefs made me realise I'm also part of the great people,' she shared.
Jean-Christophe Novelli sang high praises of the contestant and her presence on the show.
'You are unique, you've got the most amazing spirit and, for me, I believe you are a ray of sunshine in any kitchen,' he told Rue in a heartfelt speech.
Speaking of her final cook with 10Play, Season 15's Rue was left disappointed after being eliminated in a challenge she considered to be her bread and butter.
'I really felt like this was a cook that I was supposed to shine in, and I didn't,' Rue said.
'You are unique, you've got the most amazing spirit and, for me, I believe you are a ray of sunshine in any kitchen,' Jean-Christophe Novelli told Rue in a heartfelt speech
'I had done all these elements over a thousand times, and somehow that didn't show. You couldn't see that on the plate.'
On Sunday night's episode, another MasterChef Australia: Back To Win elimination saw a talented chef put down their skillet for the final time in an action-packed, temperature-rising cook-off.
It was a lobster wonton that sent this ambitious candidate home following a prophetic insight and a broth that fell short.
Seafood connoisseur Josh Niland challenged the MasterChef Australia participants with a dish famed for its easygoing nature - but easygoing it wasn't.
The task was to create a surf and turf dish, with the chefs expected to put their own spin on the iconic food combo.
Season 14 runner up Rhiannon Anderson, 48, who chose to make lobster wontons paired with beef broth, wasn't confident from the get-go, confessing in her piece to camera that she could be the one cooking for the last time in the MasterChef kitchen.
And after ending up in the bottom three with Tim and Darrsh, she was proved right.
'It has to come back to flavour and texture, which is why I'm so sorry to say this, Rhi. I'm sorry, you're going home,' Andy Allen told the chef.
An emotional Rhi dubbed her second time round on the show a 'bloody epic experience' as she held back tears.
'How many people get to come back to win and just do what I've just done? And I've had an absolute blast.'
She went on to say that she'd be heading home to her husband and hopping right back into the kitchen.
'I'll just have to go home to Deano and cook him something. Not quite as much fun, but anyway.'

Footy star Thomas Baulch, who is also the CEO of fitness company Prime Train, has opened up on the lifestyle changes he has made which have helped him improve his health, wellbeing and foster new friendships. Baulch is well known among footy circles for his Instagram account where he helps others get in the shape of their life. The fitness trainer, who has over 45,000 followers on his personal Instagram account, is also a well-established footballer, having played in the WAFL for East Perth, NEAFL and the VFL for Aspley and Port Melbourne. The footy player, who is often dubbed 'PrimeTrain' himself, regularly publishes clips of himself playing footy on social media, battling with opponents while kicking goals. As part of his fitness business, Baulch, a midfielder, has also had clients including Brownlow Medallists Patrick Cripps and Tom Mitchell. In recent weeks, the 21-year-old appears to have been enjoying a getaway in Bali with several friends. Another poo jogger strikes! Mystery woman is caught on camera committing a disgusting act outside the same business FOUR times
A suburban health clinic has issued a desperate plea to the mystery jogger who continues to repeatedly use their doorstep as her personal toilet. The Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia in Perth has turned to the public for help following a series of bizarre early morning defecations in recent months, which were all captured on CCTV. Fed up with the unwelcome surprises, staff have released footage of the woman caught in the act, which has also been shared with authorities. They first thought it was a one-off and felt sorry for the culprit when the poo jogger first struck on December 8. She dropped her shorts to answer nature's call just before 6am on March 20 and was almost caught in the act by a passing car before returning around the same time days later on April 1. Baffled staff decided enough was enough when the woman defecated outside their workplace last week. 'Coming in and finding this in the morning is extremely distressing for our staff,' ADSA chief executive Melita Markey said Nine News. 'We (initially) thought, 'Oh, someone's got in a bit of distress and did what they had to do. Staff are baffled as to why the women keeps returning, given the clinic is located within close proximity of a 24-hour petrol station and public toilets. 'It is a biohazard and they are putting people at risk, putting our staff at risk, our clients at risk and also themselves,' Ms Markey said. 'I believe it's a cry for help, (I don't know) why she targets us ... We'd love her to come in and see our GP and see if we can do something to help her.' Psychologist Grant Brecht suspected the behavior could be a sign of obsessive compulsive disorder 'They believe that if they don't do something then something terrible or awful could happen to themselves or someone they love,' he explained Dr Brecht aired the same theory in 2018 when high flying businessman Andrew Macintosh was famously unmasked as the Queensland 'poo-jogger'. Macintosh was named, shamed and charged after he got caught while crouched in the act, a piece of toilet paper in hand in front of a secret camera. 'They are seeking a thrill and they get addicted to the way it makes them feel ... equating it to taking a hit of heroin,' he told the Sydney Morning Herald at the time. 'It can make them feel invincible ... it can also tie into the idea of delusions of grandeur.' In the meantime, the ADSA has posted signs and images of the jogger outside the building in a desperate attempt to ward her off. 'If anyone has any information or can identify this individual who was caught on security camera, please contact the ADSA,' the organisation post online.
