Lewis Capaldi's comeback delights fans who all say the same thing ahead of surprise Glastonbury set

The singer released his new song Survive at midnight on Thursday.
Lewis Capaldi last night announced his brand new single Survive after a two year music hiatus. The shock news has delighted the Scots crooner's loyal fans.
Rumours had been swirling of a comeback from the star following several big clues in the past 24 hours. The 28-year-old has been taking a break from music for the past two years.

It came after he broke down on stage during his Glastonbury set at Worthy Park in 2023 whilst struggling with his Tourette's Syndrome.

And last night, the Scots singer took to Instagram to release a snippet of the song and penned: "it's been a while… link in bio."
And fans were absolutely over the moon with his return and flocked to the comments.
One wrote: "Welcome back Lewis, you've been so missed. Best of luck for the future, we can't wait to see what's next in store for you."
Another said: "Welcome back. The return of 'That Capaldi fella''. While someone else added: "you've been so missed. We are all exactly where you left us."
Another commented: "Not me literally tearing up when I see a post from you again. I've missed you, but thank you for putting yourself first. Welcome back."

In the song, Lewis references his mental health challenges of self-doubt and despair, Lewis, 28, sings, 'How long 'til it feels, Like I'm more than a spoke in a wheel?
'Most nights I fear that I'm not enough. I've had my share of Monday mornings when I can't get up. But when hope is lost. And I come undone, I swear to God I'll survive, If it kills me to, I'm gonna get up and try, if it's the last thing I do.

He then comes out swinging in a chorus full of defiance with the line, 'I swear to God I'll survive, if it kills me to, I'm gonna' get up and try, if it's the last thing I'll do.
'I've still got something to give, Though it hurts sometimes, I'm gonna get up and live, Until the day that I die.'
Lewis' new tune comes as many are speculating that he is set to play a surprise set at Glastonbury Festival this weekend.

Two years ago, the singer had visibly struggled throughout his performance at Britain's biggest festival, with loyal fans helping him to finish his songs.
Mysterious billboards have appeared at a station close to Glastonbury in Somerset and another in Glasgow City Centre with messages that are said to be lyrics in Lewis' new track.
The song was also leaked on TikTok, with the billboard message 'I refuse to spend my best years rotting in the sun' aligning with the lyrics in the track.
Lewis is thought to be making his Glastonbury comeback on Friday evening in the secret slot after Canadian star Alanis Morrisette performs on the Pyramid Stage.

Lewis Capaldi at Glastonbury review – a triumphant, hugely emotional return to the Pyramid stage

As Lewis Capaldi points out, the 'secret' of his brief and ostensibly unannounced set on the Pyramid stage wasn't terribly well-kept. 'I don't know who's been fucking telling everyone,' he shrugs, but the word seemed to be out before Glastonbury even began. When the Guardian interviewed festival-goers queueing as the gates opened on Wednesday, several listed him as the artist they were most looking forward to seeing this year. The crowd he draws is vast: both a reminder of how successful his first two albums were – his debut was the bestselling UK album of 2019 and 2020 – and of the emotional charge that his appearance carries. He last played Glastonbury in 2023: it was supposed to be a return to live performances after he had to cancel a series of gigs amid struggles with his mental health and Tourette syndrome. Instead, his voice gave out, and Capaldi subsequently retreated from public view. He says he's 'easing into this' but, it has to be said, he looks noticeably less anxious two years on. There are no signs of the physical tics that beset him during the promotion of his second album, Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, and his voice is as roaring as it ever was. There's definitely less of what Capaldi used to call 'the blather' – the reliably hilarious and foul-mouthed between-song chat that frequently used to last longer than the actual songs – partly because of time constraints, and partly, he says, because he's worried that he's going to cry. When he does try to talk he's frequently drowned out by the sound of the crowd singing his name to the tune of the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. From the opening notes of Before You Go, the crowd sing along to every song he plays, only ceasing when he performs a new song, Survive, that's very clearly inspired by the events of the last two years: 'I'm going to get up again, I'm going to get up and try if it's the last thing I do.' It's slow-paced, soaring-chorused business as usual, but whatever other advances have taken place in pop since Capaldi absented himself, the success of Alex Warren, Benson Boone et al. proves there's still a substantial space for earnest, melancholy young men with acoustic guitars. He ends, inevitably, with Someone You Loved, which provokes a crowd sing-along that makes all the previous sing-alongs seem like rehearsals: as he predicted, Capaldi's eyes start to brim. 'Second time's the charm, eh?' he nods: it would require a very hard heart indeed not to be moved yourself.

Lewis Capaldi says ‘I'm back baby' as he makes emotional return to Glastonbury

Lewis Capaldi delighted fans with a short set at Glastonbury (Yui Mok/PA) The musician, who announced a break from touring shortly after his performance at the festival in 2023, has just released a new song called Survive. He told fans: 'It's so good to be back. I'm not going to say much up here today, because if I do, I think I will probably start crying. 'But it's just amazing to be here with you all, and I can't thank you all enough for coming out and coming and seeing me. 'Second time's a charm on this one, everybody. 'It's just a short set today, but I just wanted to come and kind of finish what I couldn't finish the first time round.' A fan holds a 'Welcome back Lewis Capaldi' sign (Yui Mok/PA) He performed a 35-minute set on the Pyramid Stage with songs including Hold Me While You Wait and Grace. Introducing his new song, he became visibly emotional as he said: 'The last two years haven't been the best for me, it's been difficult at times. 'This has been my f****** goal, to get back here', he added. He ended his performance with Somebody You Loved, the track that Glastonbury crowds helped him to sing when he struggled with his Tourette symptoms in 2023. The condition causes you to make sudden, repetitive sounds or movements and while there is no cure treatment can help manage the tics, according to the NHS website. The star ended his set saying 'I'm Lewis Capaldi and I'm f****** back baby' (Yui Mok/PA) He said: 'I really missed doing this for the last two years, it's been difficult at times to like think that maybe this wouldn't ever happen again… 'I couldn't sing this song two years ago for a different reason. I think I might struggle this time for another reason, but this time it's a good reason.' He added: 'My name's Lewis Capaldi and I'm f***** back baby.' Earlier on Friday, alternative pop star Lorde surprised fans with a secret set at Worthy Farm, performing her latest album Virgin, which was released on Friday, in full. Lola Young performing at Glastonbury (Ben Birchall/PA) Also performing was rising pop singer Lola Young who treated fans to her UK number one single Messy during her afternoon Woodsies set. The 24-year-old singer, who was wearing a checked dress and black bralet, brought out a blow-up doll with her face on it as she sang her latest single Not Like That Anymore. Addressing the crowd, Young, whose arrival on stage was delayed by 10 minutes, said: 'Thank you to everybody who made this happen, and thank you for being here.' Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand brought out former Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi during their Other Stage set while they were playing Take Me Out, one of their best known songs. Capaldi sang along with the band after being introduced by lead singer Alex Kapranos as 'the original Capaldi'. The celebration of performing arts and music also includes a number of panels with actor Paapa Essiedu and comedian Munya Chawawa discussing black identity in 'Black At Glasto: 'We Shouldn't Be Here''. Essiedu, who is to play Severus Snape in the upcoming Harry Potter series, said he took inspiration from Jay-Z when he performed at the festival in 2008 amid criticism about a rap artist playing at what some people saw as a rock festival. Elsewhere at the festival, British pop rock band The 1975 will be the first headliners to grace the Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage this year when they perform on Friday. Lorde held a secret gig at Woodsies tent (Yui Mok/PA) Made up of four school friends, the group, known for songs including Chocolate, Someone Else and About You, comprises singer Matt Healy, bassist Ross MacDonald, guitarist Adam Hann and drummer George Daniel. The five-day celebration of music and performing arts, which opened its gates on Wednesday, will also host headline performances from veteran rocker Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and US pop star Olivia Rodrigo. The BBC confirmed on Thursday that Young's Saturday Pyramid Stage set will not be broadcast live 'at the artist's request'. Supergrass performed on the main stage, 30 years after their classic debut album was released (Ben Birchall/PA) Festivalgoers had a clear morning after significant rainfall overnight, with temperatures reaching the mid-20s, according to the Met Office. The Met Office's Grahame Madge said: 'Heat and humidity will be building over the weekend. We anticipate highs of 26C on Saturday, with high levels of humidity. By Monday temperatures can be anticipated to be over 30C. 'There is always the chance of a light shower, but there is nothing in the forecast that suggests anything heavier for Saturday for Somerset.' Avon and Somerset Police said there had been 38 crimes reported at the festival, and 14 arrests made. Fans have gathered at Worthy Farm for a typically spectacular line-up (Ben Birchall/PA) On Saturday Irish rap trio Kneecap, who have had one of their members charged with a terror offence, will perform on the West Holts Stage at 4pm. Before the festival, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said it would not be 'appropriate' for them to perform. Liam Og O hAnnaidh, 27, was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig in London in November last year. Last week the rapper, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in Free Mo Chara T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until the next hearing at the same court on August 20. With a sunny few days predicted here at Worthy Farm, please take a moment to read this advice on staying safe in the heat. #Glastonbury2025 — Glastonbury Festival (@glastonbury) June 27, 2025 Performing in the coveted Sunday legends slot this year is Sir Rod Stewart, who previously said he will be joined by his former Faces band member Ronnie Wood, as well as other guests. Sir Rod's performance will come after he postponed a string of concerts in the US, due to take place this month, while he recovered from flu. The BBC is providing livestreams of the five main stages: Pyramid, Other, West Holts, Woodsies and The Park.

EXCLUSIVE Sophie Turner 'looks smitten' as she strolls hand-in-hand with aristocrat boyfriend Peregrine Pearson at Glastonbury after 'reconciling romance'

Sophie Turner enjoyed a romantic trip to Glastonbury with her aristocrat boyfriend Peregrine Pearson on Friday. The pair were seen hand-in-hand at the festival following online rumours they had split. British actress Sophie beamed as she strolled through the VIP area, showing off her stunning figure black bikini top and tiny shorts. Onlookers said the couple looked 'smitten' with one another. One said: 'Sophie was on the phone looking for Peregrine and then they saw one another and dashed over. 'They looked so happy.' Sophie's visit to Glastonbury came just days after she was spotted with her ex Joe Jonas in New York. They were seen by Tiktoker who shared the picture of the pair on social media. During the sighting, Joe and Sophie did not appear to be joined by their children, daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two. The A-listers wed in 2019 before splitting four years later. In September 2023 Joe filed for divorce, plunging the couple into a rancorous legal battle that played out dramatically in the headlines. Sophie, 29, was revealed to be dating Viscount Cowdray's son, 30, in December 2023, after the breakdown of her four-year marriage to Joe. Yet, the pair were said to have gone their separate ways in April, unfollowing each other on social media and Sophie allegedly telling friends she was 'single'. However, the pair sparked rumours of a reconciliation earlier this week when they were spotted on a lunch date at Canteen in London. Sophie's representatives declined to comment. MailOnline has contacted Peregrine's team. In April, Sophie is said to have been telling friends that she was 'single'. A source told The Sun at the time: 'Sophie and Peregrine had a great time together but the relationship ran its course. She is single and is focusing on her career and her two daughters.' Her alleged comments came after she unfollowed him on Instagram. It was unclear whether he still followed her page because he has a private platform. The couple have documented their relationship online, with Sophie last sharing pictures of Peregrine - known as Perry - in a post from January. In a round up for the year, Sophie included several snaps of Perry, including one loved-up photo where she was wrapped around him taken in a bathroom mirror. However, Perry's presence on her page has been less visible since, with Sophie not including him in a post from a Paris trip in March he was on with the Game Of Thrones star and her friends. Before their lunch date last week, Sophie and Perry were last pictured together at the Louis Vuitton show on March 10 before having dinner at Siena in the French capital. While the couple appeared to have hit a rocky patch, it was only the end of last year that it was reported that Sophie could see herself having children with him. In November, it was claimed he would 'love to have children' with Perry in the future, according to sources who revealed the actress believed he could be 'the one'. Insiders revealed that while Sophie is not planning to have children with Perry anytime soon - she does see them welcoming a child together in the coming years. The insider stated: 'Sophie is open to having kids one day even though that is not on the slate for right now. 'She is in love with Peregrine, and she knows that he wants to be a father one day as this is discussed with couples. 'She loves her kids very much and is a great mom. She puts her children first which Peregrine admires her for.' The Do Revenge actress was famously married to Joe Jonas and the pair share two children, daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two. Sophie and Joe began dating in 2016, got engaged in October 2017 and got married on May 1, 2019 in Las Vegas before splitting in September 2023. The former couple finalized their divorce in September 2024, a little over a year after the Jonas Brothers star filed for separation.
