Oman to host first -ever Singapore Film Festival
Just ahead of the European Film Festival (September 21–28 at Cinepolis, Oman Avenues Mall), the first-ever Singapore Film Festival will take place from September 18–20 in Muscat.
The three-day festival will feature three critically acclaimed and award-winning films from Singapore — Ilo Ilo, A Land Imagined, and The Autograph.
These films, which explore themes of cultural differences, migrant issues, and political landscapes, have been celebrated at prestigious international festivals including Cannes and Locarno.
Organised by the International Film Foundation of Oman (IFFO) in collaboration with the Embassy of Singapore in Oman, the festival aims to introduce Omani audiences to the depth and diversity of Singaporean cinema.
During a press conference at the Singapore Embassy on Monday, Sudha Sha, coordinator of the festival and chairperson of IFFO, said: 'Films have the power to unite people irrespective of differences. While audiences in this region often associate Southeast Asian cinema with Korea, Singapore's films carry immense potential — deeply humane, sensitive, and political at the same time. Though commercial movies offer instant gratification, it is offbeat cinema that compels us to reflect on life with wisdom and depth.'
Syed Noureddin bin Syed Hassim, Chargé d'Affaires at the Singapore Embassy, added: 'We are delighted to host the first Singapore Film Festival in Oman. It is a wonderful way to strengthen cultural understanding, particularly as this year marks four decades of Oman-Singapore relations and six decades of Singapore's independence.'

Muscat – Muscat will host the first Singapore Film Festival from September 18 to 20, showcasing three internationally acclaimed films that highlight the diversity and depth of Singaporean cinema. Organised by the International Film Foundation of Oman (IFFO) in association with the Embassy of Singapore in Muscat, the festival will feature Ilo Ilo , A Land Imagined and The Autograph . The films address themes ranging from family and cultural differences to migrant experiences and political realities, and have been recognised at leading international platforms including Cannes and Locarno. Sudha Sha, coordinator of the festival and chairperson of IFFO, said the initiative aims to broaden horizons in film appreciation. 'Films have the power to unite people irrespective of their differences. When we speak of cinema from the region, attention is often focused on Korea, but Singapore also has immense potential. Its films are humane, sensitive and political at the same time,' she said. While commercial cinema often dominates, it is important to engage with films that prompt deeper reflection, Sha added. 'Though there is instant gratification from mass movies, such offbeat films make us think of life with wisdom and depth,' she noted. Musical show celebrates Indian Independence Day
Muscat: For celebrating Indian Independence day,TALENT HUNTERS OMAN organized 'Saare Jahan Se Achha - 2 ' presented by 'Ion Exchange'on Saturday, August16, 2025 at College of Banking & Finance, Oman Hall – Bowsher Extremely talented local singers which included 2 Omani singers – Mohd. Rafi &Basim+6 Indians - Varsha, Sneha, Joshika,Neha, Shekar& Sanjaypoured their heart out singing Choicest Indian Patriotic songs both old & New in anhours of Spectacular Musical display. 'Talent Hunters Oman' is a group of dedicated people having passion for 'Performing Arts'. The aim of the group is to encourage the local talents, to give them a platform to perform & get them the recognition they deserve. The group also train and groom the local talents, with the objective of bringing out the best in them. H.E. Shri G. V. Srinivas, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman& H.E. Redha Juma Al Saleh – Ex Chairman, Chamber of Commerce, were the Guests of Honour. The showbeganwith all chanting Indian National Anthem followed byanemotional song, remembering those who sacrificed their life to win Independence for India'Aey Mere WatanKe Logon' ….that set the ball rolling. The packedhouse of audience was thrilled by some Soulful, some emotional & some melodious songs. The show ended with 'Ye mera India I love my India'.VandeMataram sung by rising star of Oman Basim was the highlight.H.E. The Indian Ambassador added flavor to the show by singing a song which was a pleasant surprise. Script was neat& host GajeshDhariwal was able to impress the audience mixing information with punch Tiwaritook care of thethe singers-performersbackstage& saw that the flow of the show was smooth. Sunil Asher ensured the sound & other technology used were faultless& the volunteers made the audience comfortable. The entire atmosphere was filled with energy, euphoria, and patriotic aura. Sometimes making the eyes moist&sometimes bringing smiles on the faces of audience. From start to finish everything was painstakingly precise. The Founder of Talent Hunters Oman & the Director of the show Dr. Sanjay Dalal in his speech thanked H.E. Shri G.V. Srinivas, H.E. Eng. Redha JumaAl Saleh& delegates who graced the event. He thanked the full house audience for sitting through to the end& for motivating the singers with huge applause &cheers He also thanked Mr. Vincent CBFS for his coordination & Support, Mr. Nizam – Audio Tech for his excellent handling of the sound system, the heart of the singing event. At the endthe whole 'Team Talent Hunters Oman' came on stagewho were cheered by the entire crowd. In conclusion, Dr. Sanjay Dalal thanked all the sponsors & well-wishers without whom the show would not have been possible. It was a Grand Successful show ;Music Lovers of Muscat-Oman will cherish the memories for a long time to come.
