Before the Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection auction in Beverly Hills last night, hundreds of thousands of dollars in bids had already been placed.
A flurry of interest surrounded the floral Bellville Sassoon dress Diana wore alongside Charles in Seville in 1992 — with one punter meeting the $300,000 asking price.
The silk outfit was known as Diana's 'caring dress', which she often wore on visits to hospitals to meet patients, including The Lighthouse Project for AIDS in London in the same year.
A custom cream Catherine Walker evening gown worn during her 1986 Gulf Tour of Saudi Arabia and UAE, had already attracted a $150,000 bid — half of the £300,000 estimate.
Early bids also met the $100,000 reserve price by Julien's Auctions on a yellow Bruce Oldfield outfit Di wore to Ascot in 1987.
Her favourite red ski suit, which she wore on the slopes in Klosters, Switzerland, in 1986, was expected to fetch at least $50,000.
A blue cap was estimated at $4,000, while her 1997 British Lung Foundation sweatshirt was set to fetch $20,000.
The collection was curated with items from multiple owners across the globe — with a portion of the proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Handwritten letters and a birthday card signed by William, Harry and Diana were also for sale.
Julien's Auctions executive director Martin Nolan said: 'This celebrates Diana's elegance and enduring cultural impact.'
Diana 'would be furious that Harry left William to pursue her legacy alone', Phil Dampier says

Everything you need to know about fat jabs Weight loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases. Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in both the US and the UK. How do they work? The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight. They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients' sugar levels are too high. Are there any risks? Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild. Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at said: 'One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.' Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia. Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients' mental health. Figures obtained by The Sun show that, up to January 2025, 85 patient deaths in the UK were suspected to be linked to the medicines Rosie revealed she was using mounjaro back in January 2023. She revealed that she was starting her weight loss transformation in a TikTok video. Rosie then shared an update this March, revealing how she had "lost more weight". After moving to Ireland, she said, "I've lost more weight. "I am on Mounjaro for my diabetes and one of the side effects is you lose weight. "But it's also because I had a chef for over two years in Los Angeles and I don't have a chef now. It's me cooking for Clay and me." 5 Rosie has been flaunting her slender new frame this summer Credit: The Mega Agency

Richards starred with Reyes in the third series of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test in 2023. The military instructor split from his gun instructor girlfriend Jade Struck, 25, earlier this year. In an interview with The Mail, Phypers said Richards had promised to break things off with Reyes, only to hook up with him the following month in a California hotel. That alleged rendezvous was the basis for their July showdown that signalled the end of their marriage. He said the relationship had been rocky for some time, aggravated by six house moves over the course of their relationship and dozens of pets under their care. He said Richards owned 58 dogs, two pot-bellied pigs, and an 'incontinent' Sphinx cat. The disgruntled ex also accused Richards of being addicted to vicodin and alcohol. But the breaking point came when Phypers said he discovered 107 messages between Richards and Reyes, some of which detailed hotel meet ups and included intimate photos. "I opened her phone – we both know each other's passwords - so I opened it up and then I went to her deleted texts and there were 107 of them between her and this guy. "I went through them and it just broke my heart." Following Phypers and Richards' row in July, the actress filed a lawsuit accusing him of physical and verbal abuse, including leaving her with a black eye. Phypers has vehemently denied the claims, telling US Weekly, "Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise — or anyone. "These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. "I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience, and respect.
