Business Wire24-04-2025

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Expedia Group today announced a series of strategic travel partnerships aimed at expanding its footprint to additional markets in the Middle East, spanning advertising, technology and supply partnerships, alongside the launch of its travel agent program, Expedia Travel Agent Affiliate Program (TAAP), part of the company's B2B network, into the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The partnerships underscore the company's commitment to empowering Middle Eastern partners with access to its global traveler audience, increasing their visibility, and driving incremental revenue growth.
Expanding the Travel Agent Footprint in the UAE
Expedia TAAP – part of the company's B2B network, Private Label Solutions – is launching in the UAE, unlocking its intuitive booking platform for travel agents in the Middle East region to meet the rising demand in the region.
Expedia TAAP empowers travel agents to boost their earnings with access to its vast travel inventory and a seamless booking experience. Travel agents earn commission on total booking value and grow their business with user friendly tools, marketing materials, and more.
Other areas of Expedia Group's B2B network have operated in the Middle East for more than 10 years with key partnerships including Rezlive, Halalbooking and Blackrock Technologies.
Advertising the Middle East to a Global Audience

For partners in the Middle East, the media network offers a powerful platform to connect with travelers through compelling content wherever they plan and book their journeys. With industry-leading measurement and reporting tools, advertisers can optimize campaigns and maximize impact. New partnerships include:
Experience Abu Dhabi: In partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Expedia Group's in-house creative team, E Studio, built content to showcase the emirate's beautiful weather, rich heritage, contemporary attractions and incredible culture. Anchored in a microsite named Sunshine Pass, the year-long campaign highlights why summer in Abu Dhabi offers a world of experiences. Running across Expedia Group sites, social media channels and other digital platforms, the content targets travelers across 13 markets.
Visit Oman: This collaboration includes integrating local tours and activities providers onto Expedia Group's platform using API technology and creating a global digital marketing campaign targeting US, UK and Middle Eastern travelers. The April to September 2025 campaign highlights Oman's diverse and authentic travel offerings in the summer and fall.
Jordan Tourism: Jordan Tourism taps into Expedia Group's rich social influencer network, partnering with influencers in the US, UK and Italy to spotlight Jordan's wonders - from Petra to Aqaba – on social media. E Studio created engaging, shoppable content through a Super Supper Club series, highlighting Jordan's culinary wonders to US and UK audiences on a dedicated microsite. Overall, demand grew by 9% and gross revenue by 17%.
Giving Partners More Control Through Travel Technology
Expedia Group also announced new technology partnerships with leading airlines and hotels, enabling its Middle Eastern partners to capture more market share and gain visibility to Expedia Group's global traveler base:
Adeera: a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company, and set to be Saudi Arabia's national hospitality champion, has signed a strategic partnership with Expedia Group, joining their B2B distribution rates program. The partnership will enhance Adeera's ability to manage B2B rate distribution for their upcoming hotels in the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia while tapping into Expedia Group's extensive global reach and trusted network of B2B partners.
Emirates: Expedia Group has expanded its long-standing partnership with the airline through a full integration of its New Distribution Capability (NDC) API on Expedia Group brands. The technology enables Expedia Group to offer Emirates' NDC fares, products, and ancillary services, along with other improved features and flexibility in booking journeys, ultimately improving the traveler flight booking experience.
'We're excited to collaborate with key players in the Middle East travel industry," said Rob Torres, Senior Vice President, Expedia Group Media Solutions. "By combining innovative technology solutions, an expanding travel agent network, and impactful advertising partnerships, we're helping travel partners in the region extend their reach, enhance the traveler experience, and showcase their destinations to a global audience. We're proud to support our partners in driving growth and delivering meaningful results in this important region.'
Expedia Group also continues to invest in the traveler experience in the region, now offering packages (flight + hotel) on the Expedia UAE and Saudi Arabia points of sale to help travelers enjoy the best traveler experience and also save both time and money.
Expedia's proprietary flight price tracking tool is also now available on the Expedia app. Taking the guess work out of deciding when to book, the feature notifies travelers when flight prices change and uses data to help travelers decide when to book. Additionally, an Arabic-language version of the UAE and Saudi Arabia sites will soon be available to enhance the traveler booking experience.

China's Petrochemical Reliance on U.S. Outweighs Rare Earth Trade

US petrochemical producers may have found themselves on the front line of global trade wars, BNEF reports, with China's dependence on the US for feedstocks (see "Chinese Plastics Factories Face Mass Closure As US Ethane Supply Evaporates") blunting the impact of its dominations of exports of rare earth metals. China imported more than 565,000 barrels per day of petrochemical feedstocks from the US in 2024 according to the Energy Information Administration, with a value of over $4.7 billion. That dwarfed the $170 million of rare earths the US imported last year, about 70% of which came from China, according to the US Geological Survey. The figures show the dependence the US and China have developed on each other by ever tightening trade links over the past few decades. While China has a tight grip on refining many metals crucial for industry, it also takes in niche chemicals from the US that are difficult to buy elsewhere. China leans on naphtha to produce most base chemicals, which are processed further to end up in everyday items like electronics and clothing. However, some plants can switch to cheaper propane when the economics make sense, which they do regularly. Propane dehydrogenation plants however can't process alternatives like naphtha. The US accounted for over half of all China's propane imports in 2024. US producers have looked to China to buy their ballooning volumes of feedstock, the market value of which has almost quadrupled since 2020. China accounts for almost half of all new mixed-feed ethylene and propylene production capacity set to come online globally over the next four years, based on data compiled by BloombergNEF. A forced divorce The honeymoon period may be about to end. Following the implementation of tariffs by President Donald Trump's administration in April, China retaliated with its own on US imports — including a 125% tariff on feedstocks like propane and ethane. The duty effectively killed the economics of importing US feedstocks. Alternative sources of propane may be hard or expensive to come by, with producers in the Middle East sending most of their supplies to India, South Korea and Japan. While some rerouting could take place, Middle Eastern players could use the lack of alternatives for China's propane dehydrogenation plants to charge a premium. China's propane dehydrogenation operators, like Hengli Petrochemical, have already suffered from weak margins over the past years. Many may opt to shut their operations temporarily. A messy settlement China moved quickly to remove tariffs on US ethane as trade talks commenced. However, while China seems willing to buy US ethane, the US administration may no longer allow it. Enterprise Products Partners — the largest US-based exporter of petrochemical feedstocks — received a notice on Wednesday from the Bureau of Industry and Security at the US Department of Commerce, denying licenses to export ethane to China on the basis that such flows 'pose an unacceptable risk of use in or diversion to a 'military end use' in China.' Energy Transfer received a similar communication. China's ethane cracking capacity is dwarfed by its capacity to process naphtha and propane, but almost all of its ethane imports come from the US. The restrictions will have a significant impact on the Lianyungang and Tianjin plants, owned by Satellite Chemical, Sinopec and INEOS. SP Chemicals, a Singapore-based producer, sources most of its feedstock from Enterprise Products Partners. As the trade war continues, it appears commodities may lead the confrontation, with players on both sides set to feel the pain. By More Top Reads From this article on

US oil futures dip despite API inventory showing surprise fall in crude stock

-- U.S. crude oil futures fell slightly from post-settlement levels Tuesday despite the American Petroleum Institute reporting a surprise drop in weekly domestic crude stockpiles. Crude Oil WTI Futures, the U.S. benchmark, recently traded at $64.72 a barrel following the report after settling down $0.31, or 0.5%, at $64.98 barrel. U.S. crude inventories fell by about 370,000 barrels for the week ended Jun. 7, compared with a build of 3.3M barrels reported by the API for the previous week and expectations for an increase of about 700,000 barrels. Gasoline stockpiles decreased by about 3M barrels, while distillate inventories -- the class of fuels that includes diesel and heating oil -- rose by 3.7M barrels. The official government inventory report is due Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. EDT (1430 GMT). ChatGPT is having a partial outage

OpenAI experienced a partial outage on Tuesday morning that created some issues for users trying to access ChatGPT, Sora, and the API, the company said on its status page. The company started investigating the issues late on Monday night, but the partial outage has persisted through Tuesday morning. Around 5:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday, OpenAI says it identified the issue and started working to fix it. However, at roughly 8 a.m. PT, OpenAI said full recovery across its services may take "another few hours," meaning folks logging onto work on the West Coast of the United States won't be able to access ChatGPT this morning. While ChatGPT outages typically last just a few hours, Tuesday's partial outage is notably long in duration. The company said users may experience "elevated errors and latency" when using ChatGPT. When TechCrunch tried to access GPT-4o in ChatGPT on Tuesday morning, the chatbot responded with an error reading "Too many concurrent requests." Tuesday's partial outage comes amid a flurry of announcements from OpenAI. At Apple's WWDC event on Monday, the iPhone maker announced deeper integrations with OpenAI's models. Also on Monday, an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed to CNBC that the company has reached $10 billion in annualized recurring revenue. Earlier on Tuesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced an 80% price cut for developers trying to access its o3 AI reasoning models in its API. OpenAI has previously run into issues scaling the usage of its AI models to hundreds of millions of users, but that's exactly what the company needs to do to meet its grand ambitions. Altman has previously said the company's "GPUs are melting" to keep up with the demand for ChatGPT, indicating that OpenAI's computing resources are spread thin these days. It seems that demand for OpenAI's models is only continuing to rise. This article originally appeared on TechCrunch at
