Olivia Rodrigo Brings Out David Byrne for Scorching ‘Burning Down the House' (And Does Some of His Dance Moves) at Gov Ball
As a result, headliner Olivia Rodrigo didn't take the stage at Gov Ball until 9:35 p.m. ET — but the packed audience showed that few if any fans had been deterred by the bad weather and late start time. And along with her usual captivating set of heart-rending acoustic ballads and stomach-punching alt-rock riffers, Rodrigo had a surprise in store for those who'd stuck around with a Byrne guest appearance, as he came out to duet with the singer-songwriter on the Heads' 1983 smash 'Burning Down the House.'

After being introduced by a starstruck Rodrigo, Byrne — who could be seen earlier in the night checking out Feid's performance at the Kiehl's stage — emerged in an all-white outfit, covered by red overalls to match Rodrigo's own two-piece getup. The two traded off lines throughout the always-incendiary new wave classic, and then Rodrigo joined Byrne in some of his signature on-stage moves — bending her knees, running in place, and generally looking his traditional combination of charmingly stilted and impossibly cool.

A Fake Musical Act Joins BTS With A Major Chart Win
In the span of only a few weeks, Netflix's animated film KPop Demon Hunters has become not only one of the platform's most successful titles, but a shockingly successful new franchise in the music world. The film's corresponding soundtrack grows in terms of total consumption every week, and the original songs penned for the K-pop musical have reached beyond those who identify as fans of the South Korean musical genre and have now hit the ears of the American public at large. This week, KPop Demon Hunters manages a historic feat on one of Billboard's most important tallies — one which helps even a fictitious group stand apart as incredibly successful. 'Golden' Hits No. 1 on the Hot 100 The No. 1 song in America at the moment is 'Golden,' featured in KPop Demon Hunters. The track is credited to the made-up girl group Huntr/x, which was created for the movie. Also named on the tune are the three actual human vocalists who voiced the smash, Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami. Less than two months into its time on the Hot 100, 'Golden' lifts from No. 2 to No. 1, and in doing so makes history. 'Golden' is one of fewer than 10 K-pop tracks to rule the Hot 100. Before this frame, no girl group from that genre had ever led the charge, nor any female soloist in the K-pop space. BTS, Jimin and Jung Kook While a handful of different credited acts from the K-pop sphere have reached No. 1, they're all connected. BTS was the first K-pop name to reach the highest rung on the Hot 100. The septet — easily the biggest in the history of the style — has racked up half a dozen champions, including 'Dynamite,' 'Butter,' 'Permission to Dance,' 'Life Goes On,' as well as 'Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),' a collaboration with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, and 'My Universe,' a duet with Coldplay. Two members of BTS have also hit No. 1 on their own. First came Jimin, with 'Like Crazy,' and then months later, Jung Kook repeated the showing alongside rapper Latto with 'Seven.' Both ruled in 2023 with solo smashes. 'Golden' Remains a Sales and Streaming Win The Hot 100 is compiled using a methodology that blends sales, streams, and radio airplay to show which songs are being consumed at the greatest levels throughout the United States. 'Golden' is steady at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs tally, and this frame it jumps from No. 5 to No. 3 on the Digital Song Sales list, hitting a new high point. Luminate reports that in the past tracking week in America, 'Golden' sold a little more than 6,200 copies, up 35% from the period prior. 'Golden' Grows at American Radio The KPop Demon Hunters track also once again leads both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., as it has now ranked as the biggest song in the world on and off for several frames. In America, the tune is quickly growing at radio, although it has yet to land on Billboard's Radio Songs tally. This frame, in its third turn on the Pop Airplay chart, 'Golden' rockets from No. 28 to No. 20. At the same time, it opens at No. 37 on the Adult Pop Airplay list.

Olivia Rodrigo Has Been Hinting at Her New Third Album For Months
THE RUNDOWN After wrapping her world tour and a packed festival run, Olivia Rodrigo has made it clear: the GUTS chapter is officially closed, and something new is on the horizon. With subtle onstage Easter eggs and direct messages to her fans, Rodrigo has been teasing the arrival of her third studio album, nicknamed 'OR3,' without revealing much. Here's what we know so far about the pop star's next project. There's no confirmed release date just yet, and Rodrigo hasn't shared a title or tracklist. Still, several recent clues suggest that her third album may be arriving soon. In a fan newsletter sent on August 11, she wrote, 'the GUTS world tour is officially over!! thank u 4 making each and every show so special. the end of the GUTS era feels bittersweet, but I'm sooooo excited for all that's y3t to come!!!! speaking of what's ur calendar tomorrow at 9 A.M. P.T. for something special i've been working on to celebrate all our GUTS tour memories together.' Rodrigo has not formally announced her next album, but recent live moments have strongly hinted that OR3 is underway. At her final festival performance for the GUTS tour at Osheaga in Montreal, she walked onstage wearing a red T-shirt with a glittered number three on the front. After the show, she handed out her signature GUTS rings to fans as a symbolic farewell to her second album cycle. The moment was widely interpreted as her transition into a new creative era, with Capital Official commenting, 'red looks good on you 👀.' She's worn red frequently in recent months, including during her July 2025 appearance at Wimbledon and in some of her other performances. The color change has led fans to speculate that red may be the visual anchor for the third album. Changes to her official website further fueled speculation. Fans noticed the site's color palette had shifted from purple, long associated with both SOUR and GUTS, to red. Even her butterfly logo, previously purple, appeared in red. The shift, though subtle, suggests an intentional rebranding ahead of a new release. While Rodrigo has remained relatively tight-lipped about the album itself, she's offered glimpses into how her songwriting has evolved. In an interview with Open House Party in July 2023, she said she was already brainstorming concepts for her third album, even before GUTS was officially out. 'I've actually been thinking about it a lot,' she said at the time. 'I just barely finished GUTS, so I can't get too ahead of myself, but, yeah, I definitely am ideating. The wheels are spinning.' More recently, she spoke with Daily Star U.K. in June 2025 about how her personal growth impacts her creative output. 'As I just grow as a person, and I learn more about music, and I have different perspectives, it's impossible for that not to be reflected in your songwriting,' she said. 'Hopefully by the time I put out my next album, it'll feel more mature and like a different take on things.'

Luke Macfarlane on Developing a Queer Hallmark Christmas Movie and Playing a Straight Character in ‘Platonic': ‘I'm Very Versatile'
For many years, Luke Macfarlane was one of only a handful of gay actors who never shied away from playing queer roles. His coming out during a newspaper interview in 2008 coincided with him playing Matthew Rhys' husband on the ABC family drama 'Brothers & Sisters.' But in his latest work, Apple TV+'s 'Platonic,' Macfarlane plays a straight character, Rose Byrne's husband. 'The fact is somebody said, 'That guy who just did this movie 'Bros,' where he gets into a lot of very gay stuff, can play a straight guy,' and that's truly because somebody said somebody in power said, 'I'm going to give you a shot.' I'm so grateful to Nick for that opportunity.' Nick is Nicholas Stoller, the director of 'Bros' and co-creator of 'Platonic.' Currently in its second season, 'Platonic' follows the lives — the ups, the downs, and the very hysterical — of best friends Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne). I joked with Macfarlane about the possibility of not playing gay again. 'I love playing gay,' he said. 'I'll play gay. I'll play straight. I'll do anything. I am very versatile.' In fact, Macfarlane is not only a regular in Hallmark Channel movies with both gay and straight roles, but he's developing an LGBTQ Christmas movie for the network. 'Hallmark is definitely telling queer stories, so I've been trying to find a queer story that would make sense for them…It's very long development,' he said. Macfarlane says queer Hallmark movies offer a break from the very real-world political attacks on the LGBTQ community. 'I think what's interesting with Hallmark is their brand is so intact and part of their brand has never been to be overtly political, at least all the time that I've worked there,' he said. 'For them, it's just continuing to tell stories that really resonate with people that can still be an escape from the difficulties of our current situation.' He added, 'We all have a queer friend, we all have a queer neighbor, we all have a queer brother or sister….It's actually just part of life.' 'Platonic' Season 2, episode 4 premieres on Apple TV+ on Aug. 20.
