Tennis star slapped with 12-YEAR ban and three more suspended in huge corruption scandal

The Sun5 days ago
A TENNIS player has been banned from the sport for 12 YEARS after breaking anti-corruption rules.
Thai Natthasith Kunsuwan, 24, is one of four players to have been punished by The International Tennis Integrity Agency.
1
Kunsuwan admitted to 39 breaches of anti-corruption breaches.
This included contriving the outcome of events, accepting money to contrive the outcome of events and failure to report corrupt approaches.
He accepted an agreed sanction, including a £55,000 fine, with £41,000 of it being suspended.
He fully cooperated with the investigation, but will not be able to return to tennis until 2036.
Three other players have been suspended for alleged breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program.
Frenchman Jaimee Floyd Angele has been suspended for five years and three months.
He has admitted to contriving one match in exchange for payment in 2022.
The 25-year-old failed to cooperate with an ITIA investigation and also destroyed evidence.
Angele accepted the sanction and a fine of £14,900, half of which is suspended.
He will not be able to return to the court until 2029.
A third player, Christian Lindell has been suspended for seven years.
The ITIA found the Swede to have committed four breaches of the TACP, relating to one fixed match, and has been fined £7,450.
His ban expires in 2032.
Finally, Frenchman Samuel Bensoussan has been suspended for one year and 11 months.
He was found to have fixed four matches and fined £8,940.
He will be able to play again in 2027.
The suspensions mean all four players will be banned from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authourised or sanctioned by members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Federation Francaise de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national assocation.

Raducanu beaten by Amanda Anisimova in Canadian Open third round

Emma Raducanu was dumped out of the National Bank Open in Montreal as she went down 6-2, 6-1 to the American fifth seed Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu had won both of their previous meetings, but rarely looked like extending that run as she held her serve only once in either set. Anisimova, who reached the Wimbledon final last month only to lose 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Swiatek, came from 40-15 down to break Raducanu's serve in the second game of the match and, although the British No1 broke back immediately, she was unable to fashion another break point in the contest. Anisimova broke again to make it 3-1 and added a third break to wrap up the set. Her dominance continued in the second set as Raducanu won only eight points on her own serve, avoiding the whitewash after losing the first five games before Anisimova served out for a place in the fourth round. She will face seed the No10 Elina Svitolina or Anna Kalinskaya in the last 16. Raducanu is currently ranked No33, which is her highest position since September 2022, when she lost the ranking points from her US Open triumph the previous year. It puts her right on the cusp of being seeded for the final grand-slam tournament of the season at Flushing Meadows, which begins later this month. Her next opportunity to cement that seeding will likely be at the Cincinnati Open where, despite this defeat, she will be confident of putting together a string of victories. Since putting in a strong performance in a third-round defeat by world No1 Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon, Raducanu has won five of her seven matches, all in straight sets. Wimbledon champion Swiatek needed little more than an hour to complete a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Germany's Eva Lys in Montreal, but Jessica Pegula's bid for a third straight Canadian Open title was ended by world No386 Anastasija Sevastova. The Latvian, a former world No11 who has had lengthy spells out on maternity leave and with a torn ACL, came back from a set down to beat the third seed 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul slammed by heavyweight contender Tony Yoka

Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka says he cannot believe that Anthony Joshua is contemplating a fight with influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn and Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nakisa Bidarian have both added fuel to the fire in recent weeks when it comes to a potential bout between Joshua and Paul. But Yoka, who joined Frank Warren's Queensberry earlier this week, stated that the bout would be pointless, as Joshua does not need the money a fight with Paul would generate. The Frenchman told Box Nation: 'That's bull***t. I can't believe it. 'You can't make me believe that Anthony Joshua is going to fight Jake Paul, why? 'Joshua does not need money. He's the heavyweight, he's the fighter who makes the most. Everybody knows he's the one. 'Joshua is still good for a heavyweight; he is 35, 36 years old, you can't tell me he is going to fight Jake Paul. 'What's the point? I can't believe it.' Like Joshua, Yoka won Olympic gold at super-heavyweight, defeating Joe Joyce in controversial circumstances at Rio 2016. However, Yoka's transition to the pro ranks has not gone as smoothly as his fellow Olympian, the Frenchman's record standing at 17-3 and without a sniff of the world titles Joshua has claimed over the years. In the days leading up to his announcement as a Queensberry fighter, Yoka has been linked to a professional rematch against Joyce, but also to a bout with Joshua. When asked about the rumours linking himself to a fight with Joshua, Yoka stated that he left the negotiations for fights to other people. He shared: 'I mean I've heard some rumours about it. I believe in my team, I believe in Queensberry, my team, my coach, to do the best, for the best fights for me. 'I'm not in any talks with him, so I don't know what is going on. All I know is I'm getting ready for anybody.' Watch over 185 fights a year from the world's best promoters with a DAZN subscription. More information here.
