Reddit unveils AI-driven ad tools to help brands tap into user discussions
Reddit launched two new AI-powered advertising features on Monday aimed at helping brands drive greater engagement by tapping user conversations on the platform, the company said.
The company said its AI-driven tool, "Reddit Insights", would provide real-time insights to marketers for planning campaigns by identifying trends on the platform and testing campaign ideas.
It will also provide a feature called "Conversation Summary Add-ons", allowing brands to integrate "positive" user comments directly under the ads to show what they think about the ad subject.
Platforms such as Reddit, Snap and Pinterest are leaning on AI-driven ad targeting tools to attract marketers in a fiercely competitive ad market amid economic uncertainties.
Reddit's announcement comes after WPP Media trimmed its forecast for global ad revenue growth to 6 per cent from its prior target of 7.7 per cent due to uncertainties related to changing U.S. trade policies.
Brands are expected to prioritize flexible ad contracts and accelerate the adoption of AI tools in ad production and user targeting, the media investment arm of ad group WPP said last week.
Last month, Reddit forecast second quarter revenue above Wall Street estimates, but CEO Steve Huffman said the company expected some disruption for traffic from Google search.
Reddit also launched new content moderation and analytics tools in March, aimed at helping people adhere to community rules and better understand content performance.

EchoStar soars 50% after report Trump urged EchoStar, FCC chair to reach deal on licenses
NEW YORK :Shares of EchoStar rose as much as 50 per cent on Monday following a late Friday Bloomberg report that U.S. President Donald Trump urged EchoStar Chairman Charlie Ergen and Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr to reach a deal over the fate of the company's wireless spectrum licenses. The telecommunications services company's stock also surged after the bell on Friday due to the report, which said Trump met on Thursday with Ergen and he telephoned Carr, who came to the White House to join the meeting. EchoStar did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The FCC told EchoStar in May it was investigating the company's compliance obligations to provide 5G service in the U.S. EchoStar has been trying to protect its wireless spectrum licenses from the threat of revocation by the FCC. EchoStar has disclosed that it missed roughly $500 million in interest payments and cited uncertainty around the FCC review. UBS analysts in a Sunday note said they believe the recent developments "suggest the forfeiting of Echostar's airwaves is less likely and brings spectrum valuation back into focus." They noted they expect interest from wireless carriers in EchoStar's spectrum licenses "given the shortage of near-term spectrum opportunities and the compatibility of Echostar's airwaves with existing network equipment/deployments," such as those with T-Mobile US and AT&T. Still, the analysts wrote that with the current situation unresolved, their "neutral" rating on the stock remains. The stock hit an intraday high of $25.29 on Monday after closing on Friday at $16.84. Through Friday's close, EchoStar's stock had shed about 30 per cent of value since the FCC notified the company of its probe.

Mitsubishi Corp in talks for $8 billion US shale acquisition, source says
Mitsubishi Corp is in talks to acquire the U.S. shale production and pipeline assets of Aethon Energy Management for roughly $8 billion, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. The deal, should it be struck, would give the Japanese conglomerate a substantial natural gas operation adjacent to the U.S. Gulf coast and the energy export facilities being developed along it. Talks between Mitsubishi and Aethon are ongoing, said the source, who cautioned that there was no guarantee a transaction would be agreed and spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential deliberations. While the assets are owned and operated by U.S. energy-focused investment firm Aethon, fellow money managers RedBird Capital Partners and Canada's Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan also hold sizable stakes. Aethon and RedBird declined comment. OTPP did not immediately respond to a comment request. Mitsubishi could not be reached outside of normal business hours in Japan. The upstream assets of Aethon, which primarily focus on the Haynesville shale formation in Louisiana and East Texas, constitute one of the largest privately held U.S. gas producers. Reuters reported in November that Aethon was exploring options for its operations, which also include more than 1,400 miles (2,250 km) of pipelines across the Haynesville basin and Wyoming, where Aethon also has some production assets.

US Steel shares rise after golden share details unveiled
WASHINGTON :Shares of U.S. Steel rose 5 per cent on Monday, as a $14.9-billion bid for the well-known American firm from Nippon Steel approached the finish line and after details of the U.S. government's golden share emerged over the weekend. U.S. Steel shares hit $54.86, just short of the $55 Nippon Steel offer, after the Trump administration gave a green light to the merger on Friday via an executive order and a signed agreement to assuage national security concerns, capping off a tumultuous 18-month effort. But questions swirled about the "golden share" President Donald Trump had suggested gave the American people a 51 per cent stake in the struggling U.S. firm as part of the acquisition. "President Trump has secured a perpetual Golden Share as part of Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel," Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick posted on social media on Saturday. He added the share would prevent the companies from reducing or delaying $14 billion in promised investments, transferring production or jobs outside the United States, or closing or idling plants before certain time frames, without the president's consent. That power could be conferred via a single share of preferred stock, called Class G for "gold," a U.S. official said, confirming a report by the New York Times. In a national security agreement term sheet proposed to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. in September 2024 and obtained by Reuters, Nippon Steel pledged that a majority of U.S. Steel's board members would be American, and that three of them - known as the "independent U.S. Directors" will be approved by CFIUS. "U.S. Steel may reduce Production Capacity if and only if it is approved by a majority of the Independent U.S. Directors," the term sheet stated, adding that core U.S. managers will be U.S. citizens.
