NHL trade rumor: Toronto Maple Leafs eye bigger trade splash after Mitch Marner exit shakes up NHL offseason
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been among the most active
NHL
franchises this offseason. And headlined by the departure of star forward Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights. In return, the Leafs received Nicolas Roy, a dependable two-way forward, but one who doesn't carry the same offensive firepower as Marner.
In an attempt to plug that scoring hole, general manager Brad Treliving has added winger Matias Maccelli from the Utah Mammoth and recently traded Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for depth defenseman Henry Thrun. These moves provide flexibility and secondary depth, but haven't fully answered the team's top-line offensive needs.
Do Leafs need to make a move on blue line?
Brad Treliving is rumored to be targeting big-name defensemen
With cap space freed and eyes set on deeper playoff runs, Treliving may not be done yet. Reports suggest the Maple Leafs are exploring high-impact trades, particularly on the blue line. Defensemen such as
Erik Karlsson
and Dougie Hamilton have been loosely linked to the team, while speculation has also surfaced around Brandon Carlo and Morgan Rielly.
Trading Rielly, who holds a no-movement clause, would be difficult to execute, but moving a defenseman to acquire scoring help isn't off the table. The Leafs lack premium trade assets, such as first-round picks or elite prospects. Therefore, a bold and strategic move may be required.
Fans buzz about Nazem Kadri's return, but reality may differ
Outside of defense, chatter continues about a possible reunion. That too with Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri. Although highly unlikely at this stage, the idea has caught the attention of Maple Leafs fans, who are hungry for a mix of grit and scoring.

Free agent Jack Roslovic has also been linked to Toronto, though whether he's the kind of 'big move' the team needs remains uncertain.
Should the Maple Leafs bring back Nazem Kadri?
Offseason far from over as Toronto remains open for business
Toronto's front office has shown no signs of slowing down. With the departure of a high-impact player like Marner, the pressure is now on to not only replace his production but elevate the team's overall playoff potential. The Maple Leafs' offseason has already been a headline-grabber across the National Hockey League, and the biggest deal might still be ahead.
