TGCSB warns people over fake bank reward points scam through apk files
According to officials, fraudsters typically contact victims via phone call, SMS, or WhatsApp, sharing APK files (fake links) disguised as official banking sites or applications. Once these are clicked or installed, the scammers gain access to sensitive information such as banking credentials, OTPs and PINs, leading to unauthorised withdrawals.
Recent cases in Telangana have revealed that fraudsters are misusing the names of reputed banks such as Axis Bank, SBI and Bank of Baroda. Several victims have lost thousands of rupees after sharing their details or downloading malicious apps.
The bureau urged people never to click on suspicious links or download files sent over WhatsApp or SMS. Reward points, it said, should only be redeemed through official bank applications or websites. Citizens are advised to disconnect immediately if they receive such calls and to verify directly with their bank.
Suspicious messages or websites can be reported via the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or on cybercrime.gov.in.

The accused, identified as Joshua Oscar Nevis, allegedly posed as the victim's employer and tricked him into transferring the money. Fraud via WhatsApp Impersonation According to officials, the victim received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number where the sender pretended to be his boss, requesting urgent funds for a project. Believing it to be genuine, the complainant transferred Rs 1.3 crore into Nevis's ICICI Bank account. The fraud came to light after the transaction was flagged, leading to the registration of an FIR on April 20 under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police teams led by SP Cyber Crime Geetanjali Khandelwal tracked Nevis to Mumbai, where he was arrested on August 13. During interrogation, he admitted to handing over his banking instruments and SIM card to contacts on Telegram, which were then misused in the scam. Authorities suspect a wider network is involved, and further investigation is underway. The Cyber Crime unit has warned the public against such impersonation schemes, advising people not to transfer money for 'verification,' to avoid arrest, or to resolve fabricated cases. Citizens have been urged to cross-check suspicious requests through local police or the Cyber Crime Helpline. Haryana teacher's death: Mobile internet suspended in Bhiwani, Charkhi for 48 hours
Chandigarh: Amid widespread public outrage over the death of a 19-year-old teacher, the Haryana government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of mobile internet, and bulk SMS and dongle services, while allowing voice calls, in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours. Manisha's body was found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had been missing since August 11, after leaving school, purportedly to inquire about admission at a nursing college. The death caused massive outrage, with people blocking key roads in the district and the opposition parties, including the Congress, demanding a CBI probe. Although the order does not make a reference to the teacher's death, sources said it has been issued in the wake of developments pertaining to the case. Issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Sumita Misra, the order said that internet suspension will be in force from 11 am on August 19 till 11 am on August 21. 'It has been brought to my notice by ADGP/CID, Haryana and Deputy Commissioner, Bhiwani & Charkhi Dadri vide their requests dated August 19 that there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage to public & private property and disturbance of public peace & tranquillity in the district Bhiwani & Charkhi Dadri... This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order,' it said. The order further stated that the internet could be misused to spread inflammatory material and false rumours through social media or messaging services to disrupt peace and damage public assets. 'In order to stop the spread of misinformation and rumours through various social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter on mobile phones and SMS for facilitation and mobilisation of mobs of agitators and demonstrators who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson or vandalism and other types of violent activities,' it said. Meanwhile, the emergence of a 'suicide note' in the death case on Monday turned the investigation on its head. Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar had said the note was found near Manisha's body in a bag, which also had her Aadhaar card and other documents. He also said that there was proof of Manisha buying insecticide. 'In the viscera sample, the presence of insecticide has been confirmed in the body. So, there is self-purchase, there is a suicide note, there is poison in the body,' he said. The playschool teacher's family members, however, have insisted that she was murdered. The opposition parties have also flayed the BJP-led state government, claiming that the alleged murder was proof of a breakdown of law and order under the saffron party.

Sikkim University student held over ‘insult' to Nepali language

It further stressed that Nepali is not only widely spoken in Sikkim but also recognised under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Yadav later issued a video apology, asking for forgiveness for his remark. Darjeeling magistrate faces backlash over Nepali language remark In a separate incident, a remark attributed to a judicial magistrate in Darjeeling regarding the Nepali language drew sharp criticism from all Hill parties on Tuesday, with some even calling for her transfer, The Times of India reported. Alakananda Sarkar, serving at Mungpoo court as judicial magistrate first class and civil judge (junior division), was quoted by the local Bar as saying in open court on Monday that 'Nepali is a language of Nepal, not of India.' Lawyers from the Darjeeling, Mungpoo and Kurseong Bar associations boycotted proceedings at Darjeeling District Court in protest. Taranga Pandit, president of the Darjeeling Bar Association, told TOI the magistrate's remarks showed a lack of awareness about Nepali's constitutional status. 'Nepali is recognised in the Eighth Schedule and is an official language of the three Hills subdivisions under Official Language Act, 1961. Her remarks are disastrous not only for communal harmony but also deeply insulting to Nepali-speaking communities across India," Pandit said. Members of the Indian Gorkha Janashakti Front, led by Ajoy Edwards, put up posters across Darjeeling denouncing the episode. GTA chief Anit Thapa described the statement as 'unconstitutional and deeply hurtful to community sentiments.' Thapa also said he had informed state labour minister Moloy Ghatak of the matter. ''The minister has written to the Chief Justice and registrar general of Calcutta HC, requesting immediate intervention,' said Thapa.' In his letter, Ghatak emphasised that Nepali is recognised in the Eighth Schedule and is the official court language in the Darjeeling Hills, urging immediate resolution 'to prevent the situation from deteriorating.' Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista criticised the comment as 'ignorant and dangerous.' Earlier this month, a similar controversy over language arose after Delhi Police sent a letter to Banga Bhawan in Chanakyapuri requesting help in translating documents from 'Bangladeshi' into Hindi and English. The move sparked a political storm, with the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee accusing it of insulting and defaming the state. ''Scandalous, insulting, anti-national, unconstitutional !! This insults all Bengali-speaking people of India. They cannot use this kind of language which degrades and debases us all. We urge immediate strongest possible protests from all against the anti-Bengali Government of India who are using such anti-Constitutional language to insult and humiliate the Bengali-speaking people of India,' Mamata Banerjee wrote on X.'
