Paralympic Committee of India unveils logo, mascot for New Delhi World Para Athletics Championship
New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships was launched here on Friday along with the launch of the '100 Days to Go' countdown. The event was hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).
A PCI release said that the newly-revealed mascot named Viraaj is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India's rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA and Chief Patron of PCI, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood were among those present.
The Chief Minister said that the national capital is honoured to host a global event that celebrates courage, ability, and human potential.
'The logo and mascot beautifully reflect the soul of India and the power of para sport. We will ensure that New Delhi 2025 becomes a landmark for inclusivity and excellence,' she said.
Kangana Ranaut, MP, who is Brand Ambassador Of World Para Athletics Championships '25 said she is proud to be part of the event.
'It's not just a mascot -- it's a message. A message of confidence, strength, and representation. I am proud to be part of an event that celebrates those who inspire us with their resilience,' she said. Vanathi Srinivasan said this unveiling is a visual and emotional celebration of our para athletes.
'These next 100 days will bring India closer to history as we prepare to host the world with pride and purpose.' Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics said ew Delhi 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most engaging and inclusive championships ever.
'We are inspired by PCI's vision and India's energy -- and we look forward.' Devendra Jhajharia, President, PCI said the logo and mascot reflect the spirit of every para athlete -- proud, powerful, and full of possibility.
'We thank our dignitaries and the people of India as we enter the final stretch toward New Delhi 2025,' he said. The New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, scheduled for October 2025, will welcome participants from over 100 countries, making it the largest-ever para athletics event hosted in India. Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Saturday revealed that Shubman Gill made several changes to his batting technique after a disappointing tour of Australia. Kotak said 'as soon as' he saw the new skipper batting in the nets ahead of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he knew a lot had changed. Gill played three Tests in Australia, managing only 93 runs at an average of 18.60 in five innings. He crossed that mark in his first chance at Headingley, smashing 147 runs to top-score and lead the team from the front. His knock took the team to 471, in reply of which England ended Day 2 at 209/3. 'After Australia (tour) he has thought (about) certain things which he implemented," Kotak said in the post-day press conference. 'Because after (the) Australia (tour) and England series (followed by) Champions Trophy and then we had IPL, I wouldn't say that I had a lot of time to do things (with Gill). But obviously, he worked on certain things and as soon as I saw him in the nets, I did speak to him that 'you made certain changes' and he said yes. A lot of credit to him for analysing what he needs to do and I think he did it really well," Kotak added. The batting coach, who has taken over the responsibilities full-time since Abhishek Nayar's exit, also spoke about Rishabh Pant, who smashed 134 (178). Kotak said the innings was 'different' from Pant's usual uber-aggressive style but said he didn't have anything to do with it — it was all the wicketkeeper's plan. 'Rishabh Pant is someone who makes his own plans. He decides (the way) and (then) he bats. This innings was a little different than you would see him normally but honestly that is all his plans. The way he wanted to approach it and when he wanted to attack, he did (and just) because he plays aggressive (cricket) does not mean he cannot play defensive," Kotak said. Kotak further rued India's collapse from being 430/3 before Gill got out. 'It was a bit of a collapse, I would say, because batsmen were also there. From 430 for three to 471 all out, batsmen also got out in it, isn't it? So, it wasn't only the last five; it was a bit of a collapse. We were expecting better than that, but it can happen," he said. Leeds [UK], June 21 (ANI): India's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar believes vice-captain Rishabh Pant's falling paddle sweep is not 'accidental' but 'intentional,' which makes it 'extremely clever.' He also decoded the tactical ploy that was in play during captain Shubman Gill's partnership with his deputy. During Pant's 134(178) blitzkrieg, one shot from his loaded arsenal stood out, the paddle-pulled down shot he executed on several occasions. He used to target the fine leg area with control and pick up runs to keep the scoreboard ticking, especially off Shoaib Bashir. 'Rishabh's falling paddle sweep is not accidental.
