Jharkhand phone cover seller cracks NEET UG 2025, shares struggle: ‘I ran my shop by day, studied till 3 am'
Rohit Kumar, a mobile cover seller in Jharkhand, is winning plaudits after he cleared his NEET-UG 2025 exam, scoring 549 marks and securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484 and a category rank of 1,312, news portal 'Pune Pulse' reported. Kumar ran a small cart selling mobile accessories during the day while preparing for one of India's toughest entrance exams late into the night.
A video of Kumar speaking to a popular coaching institution's founder and CEO, Alakh Pandey, is doing the rounds on the internet. Sharing his daily routine, Kumar revealed that he did not give up on his shop to study but handled both simultaneously. 'I used to work all day selling phone covers and study till 3 am. Then, I would wake up at 7 am and go back to work,' he said, explaining the daily grind he went through for months.
He further revealed that his father worked at a local vegetable market. His interest in pursuing a career in medicine sparked after he worked at a medical store during the COVID pandemic, he said. After his Class 12 Boards, he dropped out of college to focus on NEET.
In a touching gesture, Pandey gifted Kumar a doctor's coat in the viral video.

The video quickly gained traction with several social media users congratulating Kumar for his remarkable feat. 'His eyes is showing his hard work,' a user wrote. 'Hard work pays off,' another user commented.
'He is from my city….really inspiring journey of success,' a third user reacted.
This year, Rajasthan's Mahesh Kumar secured AIR 1 in NEET UG with a percentile of 99.9999547 in the General category. Avika Aggarwal from Delhi NCT emerged as the female topper, scoring 99.9996832 percentile, and has secured NEET UG rank 5.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two men from Maharashtra for allegedly deceiving NEET UG 2025 aspirants and their families by claiming they could manipulate scores, and charging Rs 90 lakh per candidate.

The car occupants objected to this, and a heated exchange ensued. Police said the licensed revolver of Ehsan, along with 25 live cartridges, has been seized and further investigations were underway. The case was registered under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and Arms Act. Hardoi SP Neeraj Jadaun said they have written to the district administration for the cancellation of the arms licence. "The accused said the CNG station worker abused them, following which they got furious and took out the revolver," said the officer. The owner of the revolver runs a business of tiles and marbles while his only daughter is a NEET aspirant, said police.

22-year-old Indian student found dead in Toronto
Toronto, June 16 (UNI) A 22-year-old Indian student from Haryana who was reported missing nearly a month ago was found dead in Toronto, according to Canadian police. Sahil Kumar was last seen on the afternoon of May 16 near Yonge and Dundas streets in downtown Toronto. Kumar had moved to Hamilton from India in April and was set to begin a web design program at Humber College earlier this spring. In a news release, Toronto police said Kumar's body was found on May 26 — 10 days after he went missing. While the investigation remains open, police said the case "does not appear to be a criminal matter." A spokesperson told CBC News that no further information would be released. Kumar's family, however, says the circumstances surrounding his death raise far more questions than answers. "He was happy. He had no problems. He called home every day and told us he was enjoying his course," said Akshay Yadav, Kumar's uncle in India. According to the family, Kumar spoke to his parents, brother, and grandmother on the day he went missing. "That was May 16, in the afternoon. After that, his phone was off," Yadav told CBC Hamilton. He called his parents to say hello from the GO train. Then this international student disappeared His roommates initially thought he may have returned home and gone to sleep. But when they realised he hadn't, they began calling and eventually filed a police report. It was issued on May 20. "It felt like the ground had slipped from under our feet," said Yadav. "We had just spoken to him." On May 27, they received a message confirming Kumar had been found dead in the water. His body was identified by the family overseas during a video call with police. "We were shocked. It was impossible to believe. Sahil even knew how to swim," Yadav said. "We kept asking, 'Why would he go to the beach? What happened?' But we've gotten no clear answers." Toronto police have not commented on the location where Kumar's body was found or the specific circumstances surrounding his death. The family says communication largely stopped after the body was recovered. Property seizure drive: Police target 1,172 criminals in state
Patna: Bihar Police has intensified its drive to confiscate properties acquired through criminal and illegal means across the state. On Monday, director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar announced that 1,172 criminals had been identified for asset seizure with court proposals already submitted against 188 of them. The court has so far approved confiscation orders in four cases. The DGP said Bihar has 1,249 police stations and 1,172 criminals who had acquired assets through illegal means had been identified for seizure under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). "Proposals were received against 239 of these identified criminals by the sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) of various districts through the SHOs concerned. Among them, proposals against a total of 212 identified criminals were forwarded by the SDPOs to the senior superintendent of police/superintendent of police (SSPs/SPs). Proposals against 188 identified criminals were sent to the court. Out of the 188 proposals sent, orders were passed by the court to confiscate the assets of criminals under Section 107 of the BNSS in four cases so far," Kumar said. "Earlier, action was mainly taken by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), but due to the ED's busy schedule, there were several bottlenecks in the process of confiscating the assets of criminals. Now, DSP-level officers are empowered to directly propose the confiscation of criminals' black money to the courts," he said. He reiterated that the campaign against corruption continues with a zero-tolerance approach. "From Jan to June 12, 2025, the vigilance bureau caught a dozen police officers red-handed while accepting bribes. In various districts of the state, cases were filed against a total of 22 police officials from Jan to May this year. Out of these, 15 police personnel were arrested and forwarded to court. Also, 66 police personnel were suspended," the DGP said. He added that action is also being taken against repeat offenders released on bail under the Arms Act. If they reoffend, their bail will be cancelled, and this process has already begun. The DGP also highlighted an increase in the pace of FIR registration. "Compared to last year, more FIRs have been registered this year. There is a clear focus on conducting speedy trials and punishing criminals without delay," he said. Addressing concerns around murder rates, Kumar said, "Even a single murder in a year is intolerable as everyone has the right to live. Around 4,000 murders occurred around 2004, whereas today the number is approximately 2,400. When comparing the number of murders from 2004 to 2024, there has been a decline." To ensure timely justice, Kumar said a proposal had been prepared by the state police headquarters to establish 100 fast-track courts across Bihar. "The formation of fast-track courts in all districts is being arranged not only to quickly punish offenders but also to provide immediate justice to the innocent and the victims," he added.
