Grand Theft Auto VI release delayed as Rockstar Games apologises
Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed until next year, Rockstar Games has announced.
The highly anticipated release of GTA 6 was set for late 2025 after a teaser trailer was released in December 2023.
Fans have waited over a decade for the announcement after the success of GTA V.
The game became the second-best-selling video game of all time – behind Minecraft – after it was released in 2013 to critical acclaim.
The series has been developed by Rockstar North which was founded in Dundee and is headquartered in Edinburgh.
Fans will now have to wait even longer as a delay to the release was confirmed.
It is now set to come out on May 26, 2026.
A statement from Rockstar Games said: 'We are very sorry that this is later than you expected.
'The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team.
'We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
'With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception.
'We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
'We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.'
The trailer for the sixth game features the Miami-inspired Vice City – the same setting as the famous 2002 game – and features fast cars, guns and even an alligator.
It also confirms GTA's first female protagonist, Lucia, who is accompanied by a yet unknown male partner.
The game is expected to come to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

'GTA Paisley' game is capturing imaginations
Richard Gellalty was blown away when a video of gameplay posted by his girlfriend, the musician Linzi Clark, went viral on TikTok, receiving more than 30k likes and over 1000 comments. The clip showed a man in a hi-vis jacket running around a deserted Neilston Road at night in the pouring rain, to an atmospheric and ambient soundtrack. Many of those commenting celebrated similarities with the iconic Grand Theft Auto series, created in Dundee and Edinburgh by Rockstar Games, but set in fictional versions of cities in the United States. In the finished version the graphic designer says that gamers will be able to use 'a mouse/keyboard or controller to freely run around and interact' with characters and objects in order to uncover mysteries surrounding the town. Whether the project can become a playable third person game by next year depends on funding. At the time of writing, £3623 has been pledged through crowdfunding. Another £8377 is required by June 11 for the 34-year-old to receive any of the money, as Kickstarter funding is 'all or nothing'. Gellalty, who is known professionally as Bovine, needs help from fans to make the project a reality. "The priority is getting as many people seeing the project and making it easy for them to decide if they like it enough to donate.' The self-taught developer learned how to use graphics and game software programs like Blender, Unreal Engine and GIMP in order to recreate his hometown of Paisley. This time-consuming task involves creating an entire 3D world with characters, soundtrack, story and puzzle development. Bovine says that the exterior or interior of one building 'starts to look acceptable with a few days' work, acceptable being white cubes that loosely resemble a building, and within a week it's mostly there.' The takeaway will feature as a sanctuary for the main playable character, who his creator describes as 'a builder putting up high flats by himself, in the rain no less'. Further details on the story and character interaction are Kickstarter-dependent. Bovine wants to devote time to writing dialogue and would like to source local talent for voice acting, saying: 'It's a balance but I think it would add a lot to it if done right'. Different opportunities for involvement in the game's final form are accessible for those who donate. For example, £80 can get supporters a short clip of their voice featured as a response when the character uses a buzzer entry system. While it will need to be something that works in the game, Bovine says that the person speaking will have creative control of what they say 'within reason". He believes that 3D worlds can trigger nostalgia more effectively than films, images and music due to the 'added interactive element' and that he'd 'like to show the game to people who know the area but have lost a connection with it'. One Instagram user described a clip of gameplay in the Lagoon Leisure Centre as 'haunting", saying the footage reminded them of "the mad wave noise" and smell of the chips served in the café. On whether the game will satirise Scottish society in the way that GTA satirises the USA, the developer states that satire 'goes hand in hand with mimicking reality', acknowledging that GTA's creators 'are obviously tenured experts at it'. Alongside GTA, Bovine says Crystal Gardens will be inspired by multiple game universes. In particular, the Broken Sword series, which focuses on ancient mysteries and conspiracies. Other inspirations include Oddworld, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Courier Crisis, Namco Museum, and Men In Black. The synopsis on the Kickstarter hints at supernatural themes, but Bovine has confirmed the game will be 'probably more comically scary than serious', involving 'underground exploration'. Gerard Butler jokes he had to get out of his pyjamas for live-action dragon film
Scottish actor Gerard Butler has joked it was fun to 'get out of my pyjamas and actually put on a costume' to star in the live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon. The film star, 55, who voiced Chief Stoick the Vast in the animated films, has reprised his role as the Viking for the new version, which follows the same narrative as the 2010 film inspired by Cressida Cowell's book series. Speaking to the PA news agency at a photocall for the film, he said: 'It felt really, really good going from the animation into the live action. King of the Hill voice actor shot dead outside Texas home
A voice actor best known for his work on animated series King of the Hill has died at the age of 59 after being shot outside his home in Texas. Jonathan Joss, who portrayed John Redcorn on the series and also appeared in Parks and Recreation as Chief Ken Hotate, was fatally shot in south San Antonio around 7pm on Sunday. Police arrived at the scene and performed life saving measures on the 59-year-old, who was discovered wounded. Joss was pronounced dead by emergency medical services (EMS) crews at the scene. 'The officers attempted life saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS pronounced the victim deceased,' San Antonio police said in a statement. Joss' death was confirmed by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales. The couple had married earlier this year on Valentine's Day. Mr Kern de Gonzales claimed in a social media post that a man 'yelled homophobic slurs' at the couple before 'raising a gun from his lap and firing'. A man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. San Antonio police said in a social media post on Monday that 'despite online claims' of his death being a hate crime, there is 'no evidence that Mr Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation'. Officers added: 'Should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly.'
