Daulton Varsho knocks in six as Blue Jays rout Rockies
August 6 - Daulton Varsho homered twice, doubled and drove in a career-best six runs as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Colorado Rockies 10-4 in Denver on Tuesday night. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered among his three hits, Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger also went deep for Toronto, which will shoot for a three-game series sweep on Wednesday. Lukes, Bo Bichette and Alejandro Kirk had two hits each. Hunter Goodman homered and singled for the Rockies, who have lost three in a row. Both teams had players exit the game with injuries. Colorado lost third baseman Orlando Arcia in the fifth inning when he hurt his right arm on a single to right, and second baseman Thairo Estrada left at the end of the sixth with a right leg injury sustained running to first base on a double play. Blue Jays left fielder Joey Loperfido came out in the sixth inning after he was hit outside his right knee by a 98 mph fastball from Colorado reliever Angel Chivilli. Goodman gave the Rockies the lead with a two-run homer in the first, but Lukes hit a solo home run in the third and Varsho's first homer of the night, a two-run shot to right field, gave Toronto a 3-2 lead in the fourth. The Blue Jays continued their power surge in the sixth inning. Guerrero and Barger homered on consecutive pitches. Kirk walked and Varsho hit a 3-2 changeup off the facing of the third deck in right field for a 7-2 lead. His 11th home run of the season was measured at 467 feet. Through the first two games of the series, Varsho is 5-for-10 with three homers and 10 RBIs. Rockies right-hander Anthony Molina (0-1), who made his first major league start of the season, allowed nine runs on seven hits over five-plus innings. He walked one and struck out two. Colorado got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Goodman singled, and Toronto starter Jose Berrios hit Jordan Beck with a pitch. Mickey Moniak singled to right, and Goodman scored when Varsho bobbled the ball. Warming Bernabel followed with an RBI single to make it 7-4. Berrios (8-4) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. He fanned five. Shin returns to South Korea vowing to revitalise champions Ulsan
Aug 6 (Reuters) - Former South Korea boss Shin Tae-yong has vowed to restore Ulsan HD to their former glory after making his return to frontline coaching with the South Korean champions seven months after being unceremoniously dumped by Indonesia. The 54-year-old has walked into a club attempting a rapid turnaround in the aftermath of a disappointing 13-month spell under predecessor Kim Pan-gon that has seen Ulsan surrender their status as the kings of Korean football. But the former midfielder is confident he can revitalise a club that has won the last three consecutive K-League titles. "Ulsan HD have been a powerhouse in the K-League for a long time," Shin said. "I will try to rebuild the dynasty here with everything I can." Ulsan's form has plummeted since Hong Myung-bo, who led his team to the league title in 2022 and 2023, left in July last year to take charge of the South Korea national team. His successor Kim managed to retain the K-League title only to oversee an embarrassingly early exit from the Asian Champions League Elite, a poor performance by a side that had reached the semi-finals in April 2024. The team's disappointing form carried into the new K-League season and, by the time of Kim's departure on Sunday, Ulsan were 23 points adrift of leaders Jeonbuk Motors with their title defence in tatters. It is that gulf which Shin will be expected to bridge as he returns to club football in South Korea for the first time in 13 years. During his previous spell in the K-League, Shin led Seongnam Ilhwa to the Asian Champions League title in 2010 and the Korean FA Cup a year later. He moved on from Seongnam to work with the national team, first as Uli Stielike's assistant before taking on the full-time role in 2017, when he won the East Asian Championship. In 2018 he led his country to the World Cup finals, where the Koreans handed champions Germany a 2-0 defeat that eliminated Joachim Loew's side from the competition. Shin took his services to Indonesia in 2020 and, in a four-year spell, led the Southeast Asian nation to the knockout rounds of the Asian Cup for the first time as well as to the third phase of the continent's 2026 World Cup preliminaries. And while he was cast aside by the Indonesians in January to make way for Patrick Kluivert, Shin retains the faith of enough decision makers within the South Korean game to be given the opportunity to revitalise Ulsan. "We have a great team here and if fans can just trust me and wait a bit patiently, I will put this team back in title contention," he said.

Sex toy tossed on LA Sparks' court in third WNBA incident in past seven days
A sex toy landed near Indiana's Sophie Cunningham after it was thrown from the stands in Los Angeles while the Fever played the Sparks on Tuesday night. The incident in Los Angeles occurred with 2:05 left in the second quarter with the object landing in the lane near Cunningham, who had been vocal on social media about fans throwing the toys on the court. Kelsey Plum kicked the toy into the stands. Cunningham walked over to the Sparks bench and was laughing about it. According to social media posts, another green toy was thrown in New York, but didn't reach the court – landing near a child. A week ago the first incident occurred in Atlanta late in the fourth quarter of the Dream's game against Golden State in College Park, Georgia. A fan was arrested, according to the WNBA, and was ejected from the arena and faced a minimum one-year ban. On Friday, another sex toy was thrown in Chicago under a basket after a whistle was blown to stop play during the third quarter of Golden State's 73-66 victory over the Sky. An official kicked the object aside before it was picked up and removed. It's unknown if the fan who threw the object at the Sky game was arrested. 'The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,' the league said in a statement. 'In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.'
