Severance, The Penguin lead Emmy race
Severance received a leading 27 nominations and was nominated for the top prize of best drama alongside Star Wars series Andor , The Pitt , The White Lotus and others.
The Penguin , set in the DC Comics universe and starring Colin Farrell, earned 24 nominations and will compete for best limited series against Netflix hit Adolescence , among others.
Hollywood satire The Studio , an Apple TV+ show featuring Seth Rogen as a nervous film executive, and HBO's The White Lotus , about murder and misdeeds at a luxury resort in Thailand, received 23 each.
"What the heck?!! We never thought this would happen," Rogen said in a statement.
Comedy nominees included defending champion Hacks , previous winner The Bear , Nobody Wants This and Abbott Elementary .
The 23 nominations for The Studio tied the record for a comedy in a single season, set last year by Chicago restaurant tale The Bear .
Winners of the Emmys will be announced at a red-carpet ceremony held in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS on September 14. Comedian Nate Bargatze will host.
The television industry is undergoing a contraction as media companies curtail the sky-high spending they shelled out to compete in the shift to streaming platforms led by Netflix.
Long-time Emmy favourite HBO and the HBO Max streaming service topped all programmers with 142 nominations - a record for the network.
Walt Disney collected 137 nominations, including six for ABC's Abbott Elementary , one of the few broadcast shows in the Emmy mix. Andor , on Disney+, received 14.
Netflix garnered 120 nods and Apple scored 81, its highest total since launching its streaming service in 2019.
Severance tells the story of office workers who undergo a procedure to make them forget their home life at work, and vice versa.
"It's distinctive in every way - in terms of its storytelling, in terms of style, in terms of its directing, its tone," said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+.
Star Adam Scott, a best actor nominee, said the cast had been unsure of how viewers would respond.
"The fact that it's resonated at all has been just such an incredible feeling," Scott said. "We thought it was something that might be too weird."
WYLE, FORD IN THE RUNNING
Noah Wyle received his first Emmy nomination since 1999 for his role as an emergency room doctor on The Pitt . Wyle was nominated five times for ER but never won.
"I'm humbled and grateful," Wyle said of the recognition for The Pitt , which received 13 total nominations.
Harrison Ford, 83, earned his first Emmy nod, for playing a grumpy therapist on Shrinking .
Ron Howard, the former Happy Days star turned Oscar-winning director, also landed his first acting nomination, a guest actor nod for playing himself on The Studio .
"Who says nice guys finish last?!" Howard wrote on Instagram.
He will compete with fellow director Martin Scorsese, another guest star on The Studio .
Other notable acting nominees included Farrell and Cristin Milioti for The Penguin , The Bear actors Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, Kathy Bates for Matlock , Hacks stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, and Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us .
Eight White Lotus actors were recognised.
"This is a bunch of cherries on the icing on the cake that was the gift of playing such a tortured and lonely human," said Jason Isaacs, who portrayed a suicidal father facing financial ruin on the show.
Beyonce also made the Emmys list. Her halftime performance during a National Football League game on Netflix was nominated for best live variety special.
Missing from the field was Netflix's popular Korean drama, Squid Game , while the final season of previous drama winner The Handmaid's Tale received just one nod.
Winners will be chosen by the roughly 26,000 performers, directors, producers and other members of the Television Academy.

Kiwi star Harry Jowsey spotted with Sia, fuelling romance rumours
Sia and Harry Jowsey were seen leaving Ca Del Sole Restaurant on July 19. Photo / GC Images Born in Queensland, Australia, before moving to New Zealand, Jowsey made his reality TV debut on Heartbreak Island NZ in 2018. He won the series with his then-girlfriend, Georgia Bryers, but the couple broke up soon after. Not long after Jowsey signed on to appear on Netflix's Too Hot to Handle, the show was released during the pandemic and drew a huge global audience, giving him a boost in international fame. After coupling up with his castmate, Francesca Farago, the couple left the show and broke up shortly after before reconciling and later breaking up for good in mid-2021. That year Jowsey joined OnlyFans in 2021 and in August 2021 he confirmed that he had already made more than $1 million on the platform. Capitalising on his popularity with fans, Jowsey has since amassed 4.4 million followers on Instagram and befriended many high-profile social media stars. In a 2022 podcast episode, Jowsey admitted to 'fuelling' dating rumours that surrounded him and Khloe Kardashian, confessing that they were 'all fake'. Jowsey competed in the US version of Dancing With the Stars in 2023, and was further embroiled in controversy after it was speculated he was having a relationship with his then 18-year-old dance partner, Rylee Arnold, but confessed to having a secret relationship with someone else while filming the series. Harry Jowsey has been involved in several high-profile relationships, most recently being linked to actress Lucy Hale. Photo / Instagram In March, Sia officially filed for divorce from her second husband, Daniel Bernad. The couple tied the knot on December 28, 2022. Court documents listed their date of separation as March 18, 2025, and cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split. The couple welcomed a son in 2024. The Cheap Thrills singer was previously married to Erik Anders Lang. She wed the filmmaker at her Palm Springs, California home in August 2014. They divorced in 2016. In 2019, Sia adopted two 18-year-old boys who were ageing out of the fostercare system. In 2020, she told Apple Music DJ Zane Lowe that she was a grandmother after one of her two 19-year-old sons had fathered twins.

AI influencer Mia Zelu stuns Wimbledon with lifelike Instagram posts
The model, who bills herself as a 'digital storyteller' and 'AI influencer', captioned one picture: 'Still not over the event … but the party's a whole other game.' She asked her thousands of followers, who often leave compliments and answers in her comment section: 'Which Wimbledon match was your fave?' Another post portrayed the tennis influencer watching a match on what appeared to be Centre Court, where A-listers rub shoulders with royalty every summer. The AI-generated model presents a hyper-realistic front, coupled with human-like feelings and thoughts expressed in her captions. Photo / AI-generated Influencers have been more prominent in SW19's star-studded crowd in recent years, with glamorous tennis 'WAG' Morgan Riddle taking centre-stage this month. The partner of Taylor Fritz, the American professional, Riddle championed Wimbledon's sporty chic aesthetic with viral posts across her social media platforms from the courtside. The former model was profiled in Netflix's Break Point series in 2023, in which she became known for her 'tennis-core' chic. The New York Times later dubbed her 'the most famous woman in men's tennis'. Morgan Riddle, partner of Taylor Fritz, the American tennis pro, is a real person. Photo / Getty Images It seems Zelu, whose creator remains unknown, may be aiming to capitalise on the same trend with her picture-perfect, elegant outfits and flowing blonde hair. Despite disclosing the use of AI in her bio, the model was inundated with admirers who took to the platform commenting 'will you marry me' and 'you look stunning'. She even has a brunette 'sister' named Ana, who has amassed 266,000 followers on her own page. In one post, appearing to be at the French Open, Zelu's pictures on court were captioned, arguably misleadingly: 'Pure sunshine and good vibes! Soaking up every bit of this energy … Which photo is your favourite?' Generative AI in the entertainment industry It comes after Netflix said it had used the controversial technology in one of its TV shows for the first time. Ted Sarandos, the streaming giant's co-chief executive, said visual effects were created by generative AI, which produces videos and images based on human-inputted prompts, in one of its original series. It was used to create a scene of a building collapsing in The Eternaut, the Argentine science fiction show. Sarandos said the technology had allowed the show's production to finish the scenes at a lower cost and 10 times faster than if they had used traditional special effects tools. Generative AI could be useful for productions with smaller budgets in the long term, but remains controversial in the entertainment world, however. Politicians and creatives are fighting to protect artists' copyright amid concerns that AI will create content using others' work without their consent. Some of Britain's most prominent artists and musicians have demanded more protections in the last year. They include Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Damon Albarn, Billy Ocean, The Clash, Cat Stevens and Hans Zimmer. AI-generated content might prove more difficult to police within the sphere of social media. Meta has introduced an opt-in label for the content, but there have long been fears that AI image tools could be used to create highly convincing 'deepfakes' and images or videos that could help spread disinformation or influence elections. While Zelu might not present an electoral threat, the fake model's plausible captions and hyper-realistic images may have fooled even the most tech-savvy Wimbledon fans.
