Vietnam Veterans Day observed at Springfield City Hall
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Veterans and community members gathered in Springfield on Sunday for the 51st observance of Vietnam Veterans Day.
Veterans who served in the Vietnam War were recognized for their bravery on the battlefield over 50 years ago. State and local officials such as U.S. Congressman Richard Neal and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno attended and spoke about the importance of upholding veterans' services in the community.

A wreath-laying ceremony was then held at the Vietnam Veterans' Monument across from City Hall to honor those killed in action during the war.
'Vietnam for us Vietnam veterans will never end,' said Gumersindo Gomez, President of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Massachusetts State Council. 'It will end for the nation, but for us Vietnam veterans, we live it every day and every night. So Vietnam is in our minds and in our hearts.'
The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is planning to shut down soon due to the dwindling numbers of living Vietnam veterans, but Gomez said that he hopes to continue providing services for those in Massachusetts.

Tettemer, who recently retired after nearly four decades on air, was named the Richard J. Moriarty Citizen of the Year at the Springfield Regional Chamber's Spotlight and annual meeting, both his family and 22News family proudly watching on. 'So many people have said how much they've respected me and liked watching me, it's unbelievable,' Tettemer said. 'I appreciate it so much.' The event served as a celebration of growth, connection, and the people behind the region's progress, from local leaders within journalism, to law, education, and business. For Rich, it was always about delivering the news to viewers with great integrity and lending out a helping hand outside of the station. 'Because it's about commitment to the community,' Tettemer said. 'The Children's Miracle Work Telethon, the NAMI Walkathon, the Super 60 Luncheon that I host with the Rotary Club. There's a lot of things I've had the chance to be a part of, and it's so cool to be recognized for that.' And after years of shining a light on others and the stories that shaped us, that light now shone on Rich, who is always 'working for you.' 'Always be empathetic to stories that are out there,' Tettemer said. 'You've got to remember that you are not just reading a news story and going on to the next one. NDP 2025: Five bus services to skip some stops in June due to rehearsals, NE show
SINGAPORE - Five bus services plying routes around the city will be diverted on three Saturdays - June 14, 21 and 28 - due to National Day Parade (NDP) rehearsals and the first National Education Show. Bus services 61, 502, 960, 960e and 961 will skip some bus stops in Bayfront Avenue, Beach Road, Bras Basah Road, Central Boulevard, North Bridge Road, Parliament Place, Raffles Avenue, Raffles Boulevard, Temasek Avenue and Temasek Boulevard. Affected bus stops include some at Bayfront, City Hall, Downtown, Esplanade, Marina Bay, and Promenade MRT stations, The Float @ Marina Bay and the Suntec convention centre. Some bus stops will be skipped from 8am to 11.59pm, while other stops will be skipped for parts of the afternoon and evening. Only bus service 961 will skip a stop at the Supreme Court in Parliament Place and a stop after Raffles Hotel in Beach Road for the entire day. Chicopee Fire Department promotes two officers to new ranks
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It was an exciting day in Chicopee on Wednesday for two members of the Chicopee Fire Department, as a new captain and lieutenant were sworn in and pinned. Nicholas Brown was promoted to the rank of captain, and Gregory Pray to the rank of lieutenant. Both of their families, as well as members from the fire department, were there to watch and celebrate their achievements. Chicopee celebrates Portuguese heritage with flag-raising ceremony 'We're going to have two more excellent officers who have done a great job through this process, and they are going to represent us really well,' said Chicopee Fire Captain Katie Collins-Kalbaugh. 'I'm so proud of my dad for becoming captain, because he has been practicing for this the whole time, and he's been really working for this, and we finally got him to be captain,' Captain Brown's daughter Mia said. 'Just to say, I am very proud of him.' 'I am very happy, because it makes us have happy tears,' said Captain Brown's daughter Olivia. Both the new captain and lieutenant completed the rigorous process, including studying for months, taking the assessment test, and completing an interview.
