The non-native lizard, known for its impact on local ecosystems, was photographed by a group of hikers, who reported the discovery to park staff. The large, distinctive reptile, which can grow several feet long, poses a significant threat to native wildlife.
"These lizards are not native to the area and tend to eat bird eggs, small birds, small lizards and various small mammals and invertebrates," county parks department officials said. "They are docile so they won't harm people, but they do not belong in county parks."
Park rangers are currently on the lookout for the reptile around Grant Lake and urge visitors to assist in their efforts by reporting any sightings, but emphasize that the public should not attempt to approach, search for or trap the animal themselves.
"If you see it, back away safely and notify rangers as soon as possible," officials said.Original article source: Invasive reptile spotting in California prompts warning in Santa Clara County's top park

Auckland City draws Boca Juniors 1-1 in 5th Club World Cup match with weather delay

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Christian Gray scored Auckland City's first goal of the Club World Cup early in the second half before a 50-minute suspension caused by lightning in the area, and the amateur team gained a 1-1 draw against Boca Juniors on Tuesday as the Argentine club was eliminated. On a humid day with a game-time temperature of 93 degrees (34 Celsius) the crowd of 16,899 at 30,109-capacity Geodis Park was forced to wait when play was suspended in the 54th minute, the fifth weather delay of the tournament's group stage. Boca went ahead in the 26th minute when Lautaro Di Lollo's header from a corner kick hit a post and bounced in off goalkeeper Nathan Garrow's arm for an own goal. Gray tied the score in the 52nd with a header from Jerson Lagos' corner kick. The match was suspended in the 54th. The start of Ulsan's June 17 match against Mamelodi Sundowns in Orlando, Florida, was delayed 65 minutes by thunderstorms and the Salzburg-Pachuca game in Cincinnati the next day was stopped in the 54th minute for a 97-minute delay caused by a thunderstorm. A June 19 match between Palmeiras and Al Ahly in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was stopped for 50 minutes in the 62nd minute because of weather, and Auckland's game against Benfica at Orlando on Friday was suspended for 2 hours, 14 minutes during halftime. Benfica finished first in Group C with a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich. Boca Juniors was third with two points and Auckland, outscored 17-1 in the tournament, had one point. Takeaways Boca outshot Auckland 40-3 and Garrow had 10 saves. ___

Man Utd start Asia trip hours after worst season since 1974

A Manchester United squad including Alejandro Garnacho were due to arrive in Malaysia on Monday for a friendly, less than 24 hours after finishing the club's worst season since 1974. United beat 10-man Aston Villa 2-0 on Sunday at Old Trafford but manager Ruben Amorim has a huge rebuilding task over the summer to revive the fortunes of one of the world's biggest football clubs. Amorim afterwards apologised to fans for the "disaster" of a campaign, which saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and beaten 1-0 by Spurs in last week's Europa League final. Hours after beating Villa, a 32-man squad including Argentine winger Garnacho jetted off for the red-eye flight to the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and a match Wednesday against a Southeast Asian XI. That is followed by a game on Friday in Hong Kong against the Chinese city's representative team. United hope the two post-season friendlies will bring in some much-needed revenue, although tickets were still available on Monday for both games. The BBC reported that the trip will generate about $10 million (£7.8m) for the club. The 20-year-old Garnacho was not involved against Villa and his United career looks over after he and his brother publicly criticised Amorim's decision to drop him for the Europa League final. Goalkeeper Andre Onana and England defender Luke Shaw were similarly on the plane to Asia despite also not featuring against Villa. Defenders Leny Yoro and Noussair Mazraoui did not travel, United said, but most of the rest of the first-team squad is expected to feature. Highs of 37 degrees Celsius (99 Fahrenheit) are forecast in Kuala Lumpur this week and thunderstorms predicted on the day of the game at the 84,000-capacity Bukit Jalil national stadium. Thunderstorms and showers are also forecast this week in Hong Kong, where humidity will be close to 100 percent. Friday's match will take place at the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium. In July 2013, then Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio labelled the playing surface a "killer pitch" after heavy rain played havoc with the conditions. bur-pst/tc
