Two siblings found dead inside parked car in Patna's Indrapuri, family alleges foul play
The victims — a 7-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother — had left home around 12:30 pm on Independence Day to attend tuition at a nearby teacher's residence. When the children failed to return, their mother Kiran Devi called the teacher around 4 pm and was informed that they had already left for home.
The search that began immediately continued for nearly three hours. Around 7 pm, the children were discovered unconscious on the back seat of a silver Hyundai Santro with an Uttarakhand registration, parked barely 100-200 metres from their residence. The vehicle was reportedly lying abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby apartment building.
Police reached the spot after receiving a 112-call regarding two children found in 'suspicious condition'. 'The girl was still breathing when they were found. Both were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival,' said City SP (Central) Diksha.
While authorities suspect that the children could have died of suffocation, the mother has alleged her daughter had been strangled and her son bore burn marks. She accused the tuition teacher of foul play.
The police sources, however claim no signs of assault were found on preliminary examination.
'The teacher has been questioned and nothing suspicious has emerged so far,' one officer said.
Meanwhile, police have seized the car — allegedly abandoned — and a forensic team has collected evidence. CCTV footage shows the children leaving the elderly tutor's home alone.
The bodies were sent to their native village in Samastipur for last rites. Police await a postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. Further investigation is underway.

At around 7am on Friday, 62-year-old Monowar Hossain was hoisting the national flag when the iron pole accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage power line A tragic incident unfolded in West Bengal on Friday morning when a teacher was electrocuted to death while hoisting the national flag during Independence Day celebrations at a school. Fatal Accident At Private School In Mallikpur The incident took place at a private school in Mallikpur, under the jurisdiction of Haroa Police Station in North 24 Parganas. At around 7am on Friday, 62-year-old Monowar Hossain was hoisting the national flag when the iron pole accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage power line. Hossain was immediately taken to Haroa Rural Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The incident has plunged the local community into grief. Negligence Suspected In Teacher's Death Hossain, a resident of Jhinkia village (also under Haroa Police Station), is believed to have died due to electrocution caused by negligence. Authorities from Haroa Police Station have sent the body to the Basirhat Health District police morgue for post-mortem examination. This is not the first time that such a tragic incident has occurred during Independence Day celebrations in the country. Last year, Father Kudilil Mathew (30), vicar of Mulleria Infant St Jesus Church in Kerala's Kasaragod, had died of electrocution while lowering the national flag. The iron flagpole he was handling reportedly came into contact with a high-tension wire, resulting in a fatal electric shock. In 2016, a teacher was killed and four students were seriously injured after suffering a high-voltage electric shock in Medikonda village of Telangana. Similarly, in 2013, four people, including a student, were electrocuted to death in unrelated incidents during Independence Day celebrations across Medak and Mahbubnagar districts in present-day Telangana. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ₹75 LPA vs ₹14 LPA: Techie wife with 5x salary wonders if she has to pay alimony to govt employee husband
A 34-year-old IT professional has sparked debate online after sharing her marital troubles on Reddit. In a post titled 'Do I have to pay alimony to my husband ?' , the woman revealed that she is considering filing for divorce citing mental cruelty, but is unsure about whether she will be required to pay financial support to her spouse. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency The techie explained that she earns a package of around ₹75 lakh per annum, while her husband, a 35-year-old government employee, makes about ₹1.2 lakh per month (approximately ₹14 lakh per year). She alleged that he has been financially and emotionally abusive throughout their five-year marriage, and that he is now demanding money from her. 'It was a love marriage, but things have gone downhill. I don't think he will agree to a mutual divorce without demanding money, so I may have to contest it on grounds of mental cruelty,' she wrote. She further claimed to have call recordings of her husband verbally abusing her, along with bank records to support her allegations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo The woman, who has already moved out of the government quarters where they lived, said she fears for her safety and even asked whether she could file for divorce in a distant state for protection. 'I do want to file for divorce but I'm scared for my life,' she added. Live Events The post triggered a wave of responses from Redditors, many of whom weighed in on the legal and financial aspects. One user noted: 'Yes, he can claim alimony if your income was supporting his lifestyle. However, since he also has a stable government job and housing benefits, the amount could be reduced or possibly dismissed if you weren't funding his lifestyle directly.' Another pointed out the unusual reversal of roles, writing: 'It's rare to see a wife earning five times more than her husband. In such cases, you'd likely be asked to pay alimony. Courts usually calculate between 20–33% of take-home income as maintenance. Assets like property, cars, stocks, and even gold could also come into the picture, so safeguard them in advance.' Some, however, came to her defense. One commenter wrote: 'He's a government employee, which means he's probably earning a lot more through bribes anyway. This seems less about money and more about control. It's sad to see people siding with him just because he's the husband. Stay strong—this can happen to anyone, even to their sisters tomorrow.'
