Texas teen Karmelo Anthony set to graduate from high school while facing Austin Metcalf murder charge — after agreement with school
Anthony's parents and an activist group vocal in supporting the accused murderer played prominent roles negotiating for the teen to receive his diploma from Frisco's Centennial High School while under house arrest, WFAA reported.
Next Generation Action Network, the controversial group backing Anthony's legal troubles, announced the teen's high school achievement after his parents met with officials in the Frisco Independent School District.

'We are proud to share that Karmelo Anthony will graduate and receive his high school diploma, and that his academic achievements will not be disrupted,' the group's President Dominique Alexander told the outlet.
'NGAN has worked diligently alongside the Anthony family's legal team to bring about this fair and student-focused resolution. This is a moment of dignity for Karmelo and a reminder of the power of advocacy done right.'

The school district said it would honor Anthony's credits and previous achievements in the classroom, but he will not be recognized to walk across the stage at the May 22 graduation due to his murder charge.
'No student who commits a serious criminal offense (Title V felony) is permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. Additionally, anyone who trespasses on Frisco ISD property or at a District event will be subject to immediate removal and possible arrest by law enforcement,' Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip wrote in an email to the Centennial High School community, according to WFAA.
Anthony's graduation status has been in limbo since his deadly encounter with Metcalf at a high school track and field event on April 2 in Frisco, Texas.

He is accused of stabbing Metcalf, 17, in the heart at Kuykendall Stadium after a brief altercation between the two teens.
Anthony, a Centennial High senior, was allegedly sitting underneath the tent of Memorial High School when Metcalf confronted the uninvited visitor.
Anthony threatened the junior to not touch him before digging into his backpack and pulling out a knife, plunging the blade into Metcalf's chest.

Police captured Anthony, who later confessed to the stabbing but claimed he did it in self-defense.
Metcalf died in his twin brother's arms after the blade pierced his heart.
His brother, Hunter Metcalf, said the altercation happened in less than 30 seconds and the siblings didn't know Anthony before the fight, according to WFAA.

Although Anthony turned 18 on May 11, he will not face the death penalty if convicted because he was 17 when the alleged murder occurred.
'The Supreme Court has said not only can you not seek the death penalty against someone who committed a crime when they're 17, you can't even get them life without parole. That would not be something we could do even if we wanted to,' Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA.

Australian state rolls out machete ‘disposal bins' ahead of ban
An Australian state has asked citizens to surrender machetes at disposal bins ahead of a statewide ban on the weapons aimed at combating knife crime. "These knives destroy lives – so we're taking them off the streets," Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan said in a statement. Victoria police have seized a record number of illegal knives from the streets, averaging at least 44 knives a day, Sky News Australia reported. Minister for Police Anthony Carbines said the government is backing Victoria Police to get the weapons out of the hands of young people to keep citizens safe. "Our message to anyone with these weapons is simple – get rid of them or face the consequences," Carbines said in a statement. Exemptions for those who can possess a machete include agricultural workers who use them as part of their job, along with machetes that are used in a traditional, historical or cultural capacity, according to the government. Individuals exempt must comply with strict conditions and be able to demonstrate eligibility if asked by police. The Victoria government said it had already issued a temporary ban on the sale of machetes in May, resulting in Amazon removing the weapons for purchase from its website.

On Monday, July 21, James Anthony Morris Jr. was arrested after allegedly imprisoning a 10-year-old girl at a Jacksonville, Fla., Subway location where he is a manager, Law & Crime reported, citing an arrest report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Action News Jax also reported about the incident. After arriving with her mother at the restaurant — located on Argyle Forest Boulevard near Old Middleburg Road, per Action News Jax — the girl walked on an area that Morris, 33, had just mopped, according to the report obtained by Law & Crime. Her mother subsequently asked her to apologize, per the report. The Subway manager then allegedly grabbed the girl by the hand and brought her to the back of the restaurant, where he locked her in a room, according to the arrest report. Initially, the girl's mom believed Morris was playing around, but then began to 'panic,' Law & Crime reported. The distressed parent tried to open the door, but Morris allegedly 'pushed' it closed, leading to an altercation, according to the arrest report. The mom then allegedly 'fought' with the Subway manager and called out for help, ultimately getting the door open to free her daughter. Another employee at the sandwich shop responded to the mom's cries for help, according to the arrest report. He later told police that he had allegedly observed Morris pull the girl and 'heard the commotion' that followed. He also called Morris's behavior 'weird,' per the report. Police believe that in total, the girl was in the room for 'upwards of two minutes,' according to Law & Crime. Subway did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Saturday, July 26, nor did the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The girl told police that when the manager allegedly brought her to the room, he 'gripped her hand even tighter" and told her that her parents are 'trash and terrible people,' according to Law & Crime. The IDF denied the claim of former US Green Beret, Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Aguilar, who stated that he witnessed the military firing at civilians at aid distribution sites in Gaza during an interview with the BBC on Saturday. The IDF has also denied similar claims over the past few months, saying that it does not fire indiscriminately at civilians, nor does it operate within the distribution sites. Over the past few months, dozens of allegations of the deliberate shooting of civilians by the IDF have been raised by international media. 'I witnessed the IDF firing into a crowd of Palestinians,' Aguilar said. 'I witnessed the IDF firing a main gun tank round from the Merkava tank into a crowd of people, destroying a car of civilians that were simply driving away from the site.' When asked for his professional opinion on the situation, he said: 'In my entire career, I have never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against an unarmed, starving civilian population – until I was in Gaza at the hands of the IDF and US contractors.' The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has called the allegations made by Aguilar 'categorially false' and said he was a 'disgruntled former contractor who was terminated for misconduct,' which he has denied, according to the BBC's report.
