The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of a 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts in their second preseason game of the year. While they won the game, it was also their seconds straight ugly preseason outing of the year.
So far, there hasn't been a lot for Packers fans to cheer about. On both sides of the football, the team has looked sluggish.
Granted, the starters have not seen much playing time. Matt LaFleur has not been known to play his first team very much in exhibition games. However, there is some reason for concern about how unengaged the team has looked.

Kurt Benkert, who spent some time with the Packers and was a fan favorite, took to social media to share his sharp opinion about Green Bay. He has not liked what he has seen thus far during the team's two preseason games.
"I don't care that it's preseason," Benkert wrote on X. "The product the Packers have put on the field looks disgusting. The games don't matter but have some pride in the performance at least a LITTLE bit."
He continued on, shading the coaching staff for being "unprepared" even when he was on the team.
"I dealt with this when I was there," he wrote. "We played against the Jets first team defense for an entire half and were completely unprepared for their nickel double mug package. It's frustrating when you're trying to put your best foot forward and you're not given a schematic chance."
That is not a glowing opinion when it comes to head coach Matt LaFleur. Calling the team "unprepared" usually falls back on the head coach for not having his group ready to play. From a scheme perspective, that would also fall on LaFleur.

It's possible that Benkert was not meaning his comments as a diss at LaFleur. Or, perhaps he was.
Either way, the product that the Packers have put on the field over the course of two preseason games has not looked good. Hopefully, the team is able to get things firing on all cylinders by the time their Week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions comes around.
Only time will tell, but Benkert's comments certainly resonate for Green Bay fans. In a season that is expected to come with Super Bowl contention, at least seeing a team playing sharp football in the preseason would be nice.

Texans trade veteran WR John Metchie III for TE Harrison Bryant, Day 3 draft pick

John Metchie's time with the Houston Texans has officially come to an end. According to multiple reports, the Texans are trading the fourth-year wideout to the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN's D.J. Bien-Aime, the Texans will receive tight end Harrison Bryant while also swapping late-round picks with the defending Super Bowl champions. A second-round pick out of Alabama, Metchie reunites with 2020 national championship teammate DeVonta Smith and should compete for reps in the slot. He missed his entire rookie season while battling leukemia after the Texans selected him in a trade-up following his breakout season with the Crimson Tide in 2021. Entering a contract year, Metchie's totaled 40 career receptions for 412 yards and a touchdown in 29 games. This preseason, he was leading all Texans receivers with six catches for 53 yards. The Texans will wrap up the preseason on the road next Saturday at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. They will trim the roster down to 53 following Saturday's preseason finale.

The Philadelphia Eagles are staying active on the NFL trade market, something they have done often under the leadership of general manager Howie Roseman. The Eagles acquired wide receiver John Metchie III from the Houston Texans on Sunday, per multiple reports. Here's what to know about Metchie as he joins the reigning Super Bowl champions and looks to carve out a role in their receiving corps. John Metchie trade details Below is a look at the details of the Metchie trade, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Who is John Metchie? Metchie, 25, was a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Texans. He missed his rookie campaign in 2024 while battling leukemia but played 29 games for Houston during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Packers Receive Brutal Injury Update Regarding Offensive Weapon

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers have struggled with injuries throughout preseason and training camp action. Matt LaFleur and company are facing some serious potential issues on that front. While a lot of their injury concerns are expected to be resolved by the time they face the Detroit Lions in Week 1, it's possible that they could be missing some key players. Most recently, the Packers have suffered a brutal injury update regarding one of their offensive weapons. Head coach Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers reacts during the NFL Preseason 2025 game between Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on August 16, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. However, Green Bay was hoping to see second-year running back MarShawn Lloyd step up into a key role as the primary backup behind Jacobs. Read more: Former Packers QB Throws Brutal Shade at Coaching Staff Last season, Lloyd missed almost all of the season due to health issues. Unfortunately, he might start the 2025 season the same way. According to an update from LaFleur, Lloyd is going to miss some time due to the hamstring injury that he suffered in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. "He's gonna miss some time," LaFleur said bluntly. Lloyd was selected by the Packers with the No. 88 overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to be an instant impact player after finishing his college career out strong with the USC Trojans. During his rookie season, Lloyd played in just one game and carried the football six times for 15 yards, while also catching one pass for three yards. In his final college season at USC, the 24-year-old running back racked up 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries, averaging an impressive 7.1 yards per carry. He also caught 13 passes for 232 yards. Read more: Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Shares Significant Injury Update To start his NFL career, Lloyd has run into a lot of bad luck. Whether or not Green Bay will stick with him and keep hoping for him to stay healthy remains to be seen. Obviously, this is not the kind of news that the Packers were hoping to get. Lloyd was playing well in training camp and was expected to have a key role within the offense. This is a disappointing blow for a Green Bay offense that has been expected to be a very powerful offense this season.
