Former Packers QB Throws Brutal Shade at Coaching Staff

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of a 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts in their second preseason game of the year. While they won the game, it was also their seconds straight ugly preseason outing of the year. So far, there hasn't been a lot for Packers fans to cheer about. On both sides of the football, the team has looked sluggish. Granted, the starters have not seen much playing time. Matt LaFleur has not been known to play his first team very much in exhibition games. However, there is some reason for concern about how unengaged the team has looked. Read more: Packers QB Jordan Love Shares Significant Injury Update Kurt Benkert, who spent some time with the Packers and was a fan favorite, took to social media to share his sharp opinion about Green Bay. He has not liked what he has seen thus far during the team's two preseason games. "I don't care that it's preseason," Benkert wrote on X. "The product the Packers have put on the field looks disgusting. The games don't matter but have some pride in the performance at least a LITTLE bit." He continued on, shading the coaching staff for being "unprepared" even when he was on the team. "I dealt with this when I was there," he wrote. "We played against the Jets first team defense for an entire half and were completely unprepared for their nickel double mug package. It's frustrating when you're trying to put your best foot forward and you're not given a schematic chance." That is not a glowing opinion when it comes to head coach Matt LaFleur. Calling the team "unprepared" usually falls back on the head coach for not having his group ready to play. From a scheme perspective, that would also fall on LaFleur. Either way, the product that the Packers have put on the field over the course of two preseason games has not looked good. Hopefully, the team is able to get things firing on all cylinders by the time their Week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions comes around. Only time will tell, but Benkert's comments certainly resonate for Green Bay fans. In a season that is expected to come with Super Bowl contention, at least seeing a team playing sharp football in the preseason would be nice. Former Falcons QB can't believe this throw by Michael Penix Jr.

Ex-NFL QB Kurt Benkert gushes over impressive throw by Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. Get tf out of here 😤 It's been a few years since Kurt Benkert played for the Atlanta Falcons, but the former NFL quarterback-turned Twitch streamer has continued to follow the team closely since being released in 2021. Benkert hasn't been shy regarding his feelings toward second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Going back to the 2024 draft, Benkert has consistently praised Penix's NFL ability. Recently, he even predicted a 5,000-yard season for the former Washington standout in 2025. On Wednesday, Atlanta held its first training camp scrimmage and Penix's arm strength was on full display. While the Falcons QB made several highlight-worthy throws on the day, a few of his deep passes went viral. Penix aired one out to Drake London that was perfectly placed just out of cornerback A.J. Terrell's reach for the completion. LOOK: Benkert can't believe Penix's highlight throw "Get TF out of here," Benkert tweeted in reaction to Penix's completion to London. The hype surrounding the former top-10 pick is growing as he continues to flash his elite arm in training camp. Penix's knack for big plays and pushing the ball down the field has Falcons fans salivating over what the offense could look like this season. The Falcons will play their first preseason game on Friday night against the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately for fans attending the game, Penix won't be suiting up. According to head coach Raheem Morris, neither Penix nor Kirk Cousins will play on Friday. However, fans will get their first look at rookies Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., Xavier Watts, Billy Bowman and Jack Nelson in game action. Friday's game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Check out the team's updated 90-man roster and latest depth chart entering preseason Week 1. Around Falcons Wire:

Ex-NFL QB wants Dolphins to trade for rookie Browns passer

The post Ex-NFL QB wants Dolphins to trade for rookie Browns passer appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Miami Dolphins have unexpectedly entered the NFL rumor mill thanks to a bold idea floated by former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert. In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Benkert suggested the Dolphins should consider trading for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. He cited the team's strong interest in Gabriel during the 2025 NFL Draft and implied Miami viewed him as a strong scheme fit before Cleveland selected him. Advertisement 'I wouldn't be shocked to see the #Dolphins trade for #Browns QB Dillon Gabriel at the end of preseason. They liked him a ton and saw him as an incredible scheme fit with athletic upside and were going to take him a few picks later, but then the Browns drafted him (per source). The Dolphins traded that pick away after Gabriel was no longer available' The quarterback situation in South Beach has shifted rapidly. The Dolphins drafted Quinn Ewers in the seventh round (231st overall), but their reported interest in Gabriel goes back to April. According to Benkert's suggestion, Miami had targeted Gabriel as a strong scheme fit before the Browns drafted him, and they eventually pivoted to Ewers instead. With Tua Tagovailoa's injury history, the team has to be looking at a Plan B behind their starter—one that fits their system without disruption. Meanwhile, Cleveland also selected Shedeur Sanders, adding more depth—and more uncertainty—to their own quarterback room. Unlike Sanders, who throws right-handed and may require system adjustments, Gabriel could step in without changing the structure of the playbook. Meanwhile, Zach Wilson, currently slotted as QB2, spent most of his 2024 as a backup for the Denver Broncos. A move for Gabriel could add stability to a vulnerable depth chart. From the Browns' perspective, the idea isn't entirely far-fetched. Cleveland selected the Oregon product in the third round but may face tough decisions behind an injured Deshaun Watson, who is recovering from Achilles surgery. If Gabriel underwhelms in camp, the Browns could look to flip him for value—fueling Dolphins trade rumors just weeks before the regular season. Advertisement While Benkert has limited NFL experience, he's built a large platform through his quarterback analysis and Madden content. Whether the Dolphins seriously pursue the move or not, the idea of trading for Gabriel shows how deeply Miami is evaluating every option to bolster their quarterback room. With Tagovailoa's injury history and the offense built for a lefty, the thought of pairing two southpaws might not be as far-fetched as it seems.
