Residents constitute forum to fight for basic amenities

The Hindu07-07-2025
Residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar (BEML Layout Second Stage) near Dattagalli have formed the 'Rajarajeshwari Nagara Nagarika Vedike' to fight for their long-pending basic amenities.
Though the forum has been working for a year to resolve the locality's issues with MUDA, the Urban Development Department, and other authorities concerned, it was formally inaugurated at a function on Sunday. The MUDA-approved layout is yet to be transferred to a local body and currently falls neither under the Mysuru City Corporation nor the Bogadi Town Panchayat.
MLA for Chamundeshwari G.T. Deve Gowda inaugurated the forum and assured residents that their problems would be resolved within three months. 'I understand you have tolerated the lack of basic amenities like roads and drainage for years. The forum has been working towards regularising the layout and has met me several times. I assure you your problems will be addressed in about three months,' he said.
Andolana managing editor Rashmi Koti lauded the residents' unity and urged them to continue their efforts until their objectives are achieved. 'Despite being one of the oldest layouts, it still lacks proper roads, drainage, parks, and even a polling booth,' she said.
Vedike general secretary Devadas N.K. briefed the gathering on the forum's activities over the past year, while president S.K. Gopalaiah urged the MLA to prioritise the layout's development. Rajarajeshwari Nagar Gelathi Mahila Mandali honorary president D.C. Vijayalakshmi also spoke.
Vedike vice-president B.J. Mohan Krishna, joint secretary S. Suresh, secretary Shashidhar, organising secretary H.N. Chowdappa, treasurer K. Srinivas, Purushottam, and legal advisor K.T. Ramesh were present.

Judicial panel clears Siddaramaiah and wife in Muda case

. BENGALURU: A government-appointed judicial committee has exonerated Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) scam, after opposition BJP claimed irregularities and a loss of around Rs 4,000 crore to the exchequer through fraudulent land allotments. The one-member panel headed by retired high court judge Justice PN Desai submitted its six-volume report to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh, nearly a year after it was formed. A senior MLA familiar with the report's contents said Thursday the panel found no illegality in the allotment of 14 alternative sites to Siddaramaiah's wife in exchange for 3 acres acquired by Muda in Kesare village of Mysuru. The panel rejected allegations of misuse of office and ruled out any involvement of the CM in wider allotment irregularities. The findings mark a relief for Siddaramaiah, who already secured legal reprieve in July when Supreme Court dismissed a special leave petition filed by ED. The agency had challenged a Karnataka HC order quashing its notice to Parvathi and cabinet minister Byrathi Suresh. Earlier this year, Karnataka Lokayukta had cleared Siddaramaiah of wrongdoing. Former HC judge submits probe report on alleged MUDA scam

Former judge of the Karnataka High Court P. N. Desai submitted a six-volume report his probe into the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh on July 31. Following allegations of involvement of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife Parvati, the State Government had constituted a one-man judicial commission, headed by Mr. Desai, in July 2024 to probe the allegations. In September-October 2024, the CM's wife surrendered 14 MUDA sites. The order on the constitution of the commission came on the eve of the commencement of the monsoon session of the State legislature in July 2024 and had led to a lot of noise during the session. The opposition BJP and JD(S) took out a padayatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru seeking resignation of Mr. Siddaramaiah. The commission had been given six months to complete the probe and submit its report to the government of Karnataka. The commission submitted its report after a year. The BJP and JD(S) have alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife Parvati had been illegally allotted 14 alternative sites for 3.16 acres of land that had been acquired from her by MUDA. Later, the High Court of Karnataka permitted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to continue its investigation against all persons, whether accused or not, in the MUDA case. The ED has provisionally attached close to 100 immovable properties in connection with the alleged MUDA scam. The attachment was carried out on June 9, 2025, under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

Top US vaccine official Vinay Prasad leaves agency 3 months after being appointed

The US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) top vaccine official, Vinay Prasad, has left the agency after just three months as Director of the Centre for Biologics Evaluation and Research, a government spokesperson an oncologist who was a fierce critic of the US COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates, was appointed in May by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary. Together they promised to speed regulatory action and pilot new review recent days, criticism of Prasad's tenure has intensified around the agency's handling of a gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy from Sarepta Therapeutics. The FDA-approved therapy played a role in the death of two teens who had advanced disease, and after a third death in a separate experimental gene therapy from the company, the FDA on July 18 asked Sarepta to stop all shipments of the approved DMD therapy, saying it had safety Loomer, a far-right activist and President Donald Trump ally, on July 20 posted a blog in which she called Prasad a "progressive leftist saboteur" who was undermining the agency's work. Loomer's critiques earlier this year led to the ouster of national security Monday, the Wall Street Journal's opinion section ran two pieces criticising Prasad, one of which called him a Bernie Sanders acolyte in MAHA drag, referring to the Trump administration's "Make America Healthy Again" movement. Both said he was not basing regulatory decisions on whether drugs helped patients, but on price."When he saw some of these sort of smear pieces, he didn't want to be a distraction," Makary said of Prasad's departure in an interview with CNBC on Tidmarsh, a former pharmaceutical executive who was recently appointed to lead the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CBER), will also be the acting CBER director, according to the agency's Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the FDA, did not announce when the role would be permanently whose departure was announced late on Tuesday, did not immediately respond to a request for FDA on Monday changed course on Sarepta and said shipments to the main group of patients for the drug could changes under Prasad, who was also the agency's chief medical and science officer, included a new policy limiting the approval of COVID-19 vaccines, and his FDA division also rejected therapies from Replimmune and Capricor of Replimmune nearly doubled in value, while those of Sarepta and Capricor gained 11% and 18%, respectively, on and STAT news first reported Prasad's was a physician who joined the agency from the University of California, San Francisco. He has had stints at the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of FDA and other health agencies have seen multiple shakeups in recent months, under the leadership of US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy predecessor and long-time vaccine official at the FDA, Peter Marks, was ousted earlier this year, followed by gene therapy head Nicole Verdun."While another vacancy and another potential new face add uncertainty, we still think Prasad's departure is a net positive for the sector as many of our conversations have been overwhelmingly focused on regulatory risk and what he may or may not do," said Leerink analyst Joseph Schwartz.- EndsMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Donald Trump#White House#Covid-19
