Andhra court allows fresh probe in Dalit man's murder by Jagan Reddy's party MLC
According to police records, on the night of May 19, 2022, Ananta Babu and Subrahmanyam got into an argument, during which the legislator allegedly pushed him. The initial push caused Subrahmanyam to fall and sustain a head injury. When the driver attempted to retaliate, he was allegedly pushed again, this time receiving a grievous head injury that proved fatal. Ananta Babu told police he had offered water to the injured man, but Subrahmanyam became unresponsive shortly after.In an effort to disguise the circumstances of the death, Ananta Babu allegedly carried the body to a dumping yard and inflicted injuries using sticks to make it appear as though Subrahmanyam had died in a road accident. The legislator then transported the body to Subrahmanyam's house and told the family he had died in a vehicular mishap. The family, however, noticed the suspicious injuries and refused to accept the explanation. A confrontation ensued, following which Ananta Babu left, abandoning the body in his car.Following a complaint from the family, Ananta Babu was arrested, and the YSRCP suspended him from the party. However, as the investigation officer failed to submit a charge sheet within 90 days, he was released on default bail in December 2022.After coming to power last year, the TDP-led coalition government ordered a fresh investigation into the case in April. IPS officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kakinada, Manish Devraj Patil, was appointed as the new investigation officer. He sought permission from the court to resume the probe.- Ends

He added, 'Chandigarh has also been put under 'small cities' category by the Union government, which is just eyewash. Besides this, BJP should first focus on solving people's grievances instead of celebrating. City roads are in poor state and infrastructure is depleting with MC crying for funds, but the mayor is focusing on celebrations.' Mayor Babla, however, said the event was a sincere attempt to celebrate the city's collective achievement in cleanliness. She extended heartfelt congratulations to the city's sanitation workers, officials and citizens, crediting their unified efforts for this national recognition. She said, 'Looking ahead to Swachh Survekshan 2025, the meeting focused on crafting a robust strategy to elevate Chandigarh's cleanliness standards even further. Key action points were discussed including intensive cleaning drives in backlanes and inner colonies; enhanced door-to-door waste collection mechanisms; strengthened monitoring of public spaces and waste hotspots; citizen awareness campaigns and feedback initiatives; and collaboration with RWAs, schools, and market bodies for grassroots engagement.' 'I urge councillors to lead by example in their wards by spearheading cleanliness awareness campaigns and encouraging public participation in the city's sanitation efforts,' Babla said.

68 tanks to be rejuvenated in 3 constituencies
Krishnagiri (Kurnool district): A major irrigation initiative aimed at transforming Rayalaseema into a green belt was formally launched in Kurnool district. The project, considered the brainchild of former minister K E Krishnamurthy, seeks to fill 68 village tanks across Dhone, Pattikonda and Alur Assembly constituencies with water from the Handri-Neeva project. The inauguration ceremony was held at Lakkasagaram village in Krishnagiri mandal on Friday, where Labour Minister Vasamsetty Subhash, along with MLAs, Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy and K E Shyam Kumar, switched on motors to begin the water release into the tanks. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Subhash stated that the project was originally initiated in 2018–19 under the leadership of former deputy chief minister K E Krishnamurthy. With an allocation of Rs 280 crore, around 70% of the work was completed by 2023–24. He criticised the previous YSRCP government for neglecting the initiative, accusing it of focusing more on corruption and political survival rather than on farmers' welfare and rural development. The Minister highlighted various developmental works taken up in the Pattikonda constituency, including the construction of CC roads and drainage systems worth Rs 15 crore, and the modernisation of an SC hostel at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. He pointed out that unlike the previous administration, which allegedly mismanaged welfare schemes like Amma Vodi, the current coalition government was delivering on all its Super Six promises. Under the new administration, welfare benefits were being distributed fairly, ensuring every eligible household receives support. Taking a strong dig at the YSRCP, the Minister accused its leadership of attempting to derail investments worth Rs 6 lakh crore into Andhra Pradesh by circulating misleading messages through tools like the 'Bhaskar' software. He stated that the previous government failed to present any meaningful development in five years and was instead focused on destructive politics. Referring to their electoral downfall — winning only 11 seats out of 175 — the Minister remarked that the people have decisively rejected their arrogance. He concluded by expressing hope that the opposition would recover from its political stupor and return to serving the public with sincerity.

Install solar rooftop systems, people urged
Raptadu: MLA Paritala Sunitha and TDP leader Paritala Sriram have urged the people of Chennekothapalli, Ramagiri and Kanaganapalli mandals to take the lead in installing solar rooftop systems on their homes, setting an example for the rest of the state. The awareness event on the 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana' and solar rooftop construction was held at Nagasamudram Gate in Chennekothapalli mandal. The event was organised by the Electricity Department at the ADE office, with participation from Sriram, SE Sampath Kumar, solar company representatives, bank officials, TDP leaders and the public. A demonstration was set up to showcase how solar rooftops work, their costs, government subsidies, bank loans and the resulting benefits. Speaking on the occasion, Paritala Sriram said he was proud that the initiative was starting from the Raptadu constituency in Sri Sathya Sai district. He explained that while solar panels were once limited to agricultural projects, now every household can generate its own electricity and even sell surplus power to the government, significantly reducing electricity bills. He praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for encouraging such advanced technology, saying the CM not only delivers political speeches but also acts like a responsible head of the family, guiding people toward practical, beneficial solutions. MLA Paritala Sunitha emphasised that the initiative would begin in their constituency, and they were committed to leading any programme that benefits the public. She recalled how rising electricity bills once made even small lighting a concern for the poor. The PM Surya Ghar scheme addresses this by allowing rooftop solar installations, offering up to Rs 60,000 in subsidies, with full coverage for SC/ST households and an additional Rs 20,000 subsidy for BCs from the State government.
