Govt allocates over RM146mil for infrastructure projects in Kelantan
Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation was approved under the Fifth Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan for 2025, with projects to be implemented through eight agencies under the ministry.
"Among the key projects is the construction of 855 Rumah Mesra Rakyat units worth RM69.37 million in 14 parliamentary constituencies," he told reporters after visiting a home repair programme in Kampung Penambang, here today.
He said the Local Government Department has been allocated RM30.58 million for 95 projects, including slope repairs and the construction of Pasar Siti Hajar in Pasir Puteh, Pasar Besar Kuala Krai, and stalls at Pantai Cahaya Bulan.
Under the Community Wellbeing Division, RM13.95 million has been set aside for the repair of 389 homes and the construction of 27 new units in urban areas.
Nga said RM12.7 million will be used for the development of People's Housing Projects in Pasir Mas, Ayer Lanas (Jeli), Batang Merbau (Tanah Merah) and the Residensi Rakyat Programme in Kadok (Kota Baru).
The National Landscape Department will receive RM10.95 million for park upgrades in Pasir Puteh and Kota Bharu, as well as a landscape master plan study in Machang.
In addition, RM2.7 million has been allocated for the maintenance of low-cost stratified housing, and RM1.5 million for the construction of an engineering workshop for the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department.
Meanwhile, Nga said over RM1 million in financial aid has been approved for 10 non-Islamic houses of worship (RIBI) in Kelantan as of July 7.
"The ministry has been tasked with implementing the RIBI Maintenance Initiative nationwide under Budget 2025.
"A total of RM50 million has been allocated for maintenance and repair works at houses of worship nationwide, to ensure greater comfort for devotees," he said during the RIBI allocation handover ceremony at St. Martin's Church here.
He said the increased allocation reflects the Madani government's commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that no one is left behind, including communities in Kelantan.

Opposition proposes Malaysia Plan bipartisan committee
THE Opposition has proposed the formation of a bipartisan committee to review the targets that were not met in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin ( pic ) said the committee, which would include representatives from the government and the Opposition, will also explore more effective implementation strategies for the success of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and beyond. 'In the spirit of transparency and accountability, Tambun (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the Cabinet must 'walk the talk' and explain to the public what happened with the unachieved targets,' he said, adding that a special cross-party committee should be established to scrutinise the gaps in 12MP's achievements and to explore more effective implementation measures for the future. 'There is nothing wrong with the Prime Minister taking a step back to reflect, assess the achievements of 12MP, and ensure we all remain grounded before new figures are presented in the 13MP. 'The 13MP is a national effort to shape the future of the country. It is a five-year development plan meant for all Malaysians. 'Whoever governs in Putrajaya must accept the reality that this plan is not the exclusive domain of any single political party; it belongs to all of us,' said Hamzah, who is the Larut MP, during the debate on the 13MP in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. He also said the government needs to clarify all matters compromised in the reciprocal tariff negotiations with the United States. The 13MP targets GDP growth of between 4.5% and 5.5%, the creation of 1.2 million new jobs, and a gross national income per capita of RM77,200, according to official government projections. However, concerns remain over the plan's viability, with questions raised about the government's fiscal capacity to fund the RM611bil allocation without placing additional strain on the public. He also questioned whether there is sufficient political will to implement meaningful institutional reforms, the effectiveness of proposed strategies in delivering social justice, and whether the plan's indicators and targets are robust enough to guide Malaysia's progress over the next five years. Hamzah also congratulated and commended the Prime Minister for his key role in arranging a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He said the coalition welcomed any Malaysian involvement in efforts to strengthen regional stability. 'Whatever role played by the Prime Minister, even if described by some as simply that of a host, it remains a contribution that will be recorded in history. 'What's important is that Malaysia continues to be respected as a sovereign nation and is regarded as a credible balancing power in the region,' he said. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional and immediate ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Anwar.

KUALA LUMPUR: Riding high on its recent win as Company of the Year (Energy Solutions) at the CSR Malaysia Awards 2025, Wasco Berhad is looking to scale up its global sustainability efforts, with a strong focus on deepening community engagement and driving forward Malaysia's energy transition goals. The group is expected to accelerate initiatives aligned with its net-zero target by 2026 while building long-term regional partnerships that strengthen green value chains across its operating markets. The award comes on the back of a milestone year for Wasco. In 2024, the group invested nearly RM800,000 in social and environmental programmes that collectively reached approximately 12,000 lives across Malaysia, Tanzania, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Indonesia. These efforts, anchored on healthcare, humanity and environmental protection, were not just CSR gestures, but integral to Wasco's broader decarbonisation and sustainability strategy. RMR loan repayments surge 57% to RM117 million in 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Loan repayments under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme have surged by 57 per cent, reaching RM117 million as of June 30, 2025. Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu highlighted the significant improvement, up from RM74.94 million collected in the same period last year. 'This RM42.51 million increase demonstrates the effectiveness of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad's (SPNB) collection system and borrowers' growing commitment to fulfilling their obligations,' she said during a Dewan Rakyat special chamber session. The figures reflect sustained public trust in the nationwide affordable housing initiative. Aiman was responding to Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading), who inquired about RMR's 2025 repayment performance and SPNB's recovery rate. She noted that nearly all states recorded positive growth, with Kelantan leading at RM19.92 million (75 per cent increase), followed by Terengganu (RM15.65 million, up 66 per cent), Kedah (RM11.99 million, up 76 per cent), and Negeri Sembilan (RM9.02 million, up 78 per cent). From 2022 to June 2025, SPNB received 186,315 RMR applications nationwide, approving 73,280. Of these, 72,509 homes were completed, while 771 remain under construction. A total of 30,262 applications (16.2 per cent) were rejected for failing eligibility criteria, with 13,177 eligible applicants awaiting processing. Another 69,596 applications are under review. To further improve RMR's impact, SPNB is exploring partnerships with government and private agencies.
