The Terrys Cover Black Sabbath's ‘Changes' for ‘Like a Version'

Yahoo8 hours ago
Australian indie rock quintet The Terrys have paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, covering Black Sabbath's 'Changes' for their recent appearance on Like a Version, the long-running covers segment from Australian radio station triple j.
Fresh from the release of their self-titled third album in early July, the Gerringong outfit made their return to the triple j studios to perform both an original song and a cover, as is customary for the segment.

The group launched their appearance with a rendition of the hidden vinyl-only track 'Snake Oil,' which received a wider release just last week. For the cover portion, the group set their sights on a recently-departed icon, taking on Black Sabbath's 'Changes.'
Originally released on 1972's Vol. 4, 'Changes' was a stylistic departure for the English heavy metal pioneers, showing a softer side to their typically-manacing sound. It's long been considered one of their finest moments, with Osbourne later covering the track with daughter Kelly for her debut album of the same name in 2003. That version of the track would top the charts in the U.K., giving Osbourne his first-ever No. 1.
'We couldn't just cover 'Iron Man' or something because we're not that kind of band,' explained vocalist Jacob Finch in a post-performance interview. 'So this was the one; this was always gonna be the one, for sure. It's one of those tracks that gets you right in the heart.'
Osbourne passed away on Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 76, just 17 days after making his final appearance as part of the Back to the Beginning concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England.
Having first launched in 2004, the Like a Version series has gone from being a near-impromptu acoustic affair to featuring larger studio productions. Numerous artists have taken part over the past two decades, with the likes of Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, Arctic Monkeys, and more reinventing classic tracks in the process.

The Block judge joins rival Channel 7 series My Reno Rules: 'Can't wait'

He's been a much-loved part of The Block since its revival in 2010, but Neale Whitaker surprised fans on Friday morning when he announced that he's officially leaving the reality show to join Channel 7's rival renovation series. The style icon will appear on the judging panel for the upcoming competition program, My Reno Rules. Neale, who also hosts Love It or List It Australia alongside Andrew Winter, will be joined by top buyer's agent and Luxe Listings Sydney star Simon Cohen, and the founder of Greenhouse Interiors, Julia Green. He shared in a statement from the network that he is 'thrilled' to be joining a show that will 'truly redefine renovation TV'. 'Along with Simon and Julia, I get to share my experience with a new generation of Aussie renovators in one of my favourite cities,' he said. 'I can't wait to see the creative and innovative ideas our teams bring to the competition.' RELATED: The Block's Dan Reilly reveals major gripe about contestants: 'Fascinates me' The Block 2025 producers make major change after fan demand: 'Baffling' The Block host explains surprising reason behind Channel 9 show's new rule Why did Neale Whitaker quit The Block? Neale announced in May last year that he was stepping back from his long-term role on The Block to be with his partner, David, as he battled 'some serious health issues', but would still make guest appearances. He spoke openly about his decision to leave the series with Yahoo Lifestyle at the 2024 Logie Awards in August, admitting that it was 'time to move on'. 'Oh gosh, it was a big decision, but it was something that I had to do for my personal life,' he shared. 'After 13 years, it kind of felt like the timing was right. I gave it my best shot for all those years, and it was time to move on. 'It's always going to have a very special place for me, that show, always. And I think if I'm honest, I'll always feel like an honorary member of the show - I don't know whether they'll approve of that, but that's how I feel.' What is My Reno Rules? My Reno Rules is a brand-new renovation competition hosted by Dr Chris Brown and sponsored by Adrian Portelli, the billionaire who purchased all five homes on The Block 2024. Channel 7 announced the new series last month, describing it as 'a brand-new renovation competition that's raising the stakes and flipping the script with two epic twists set to transform the lives of everyday Aussies'. They said: 'My Reno Rules sees four hardworking teams of Aussie battlers going head-to-head, breathing new life into two neighbouring rundown houses in a picturesque Melbourne suburb. Their mission? To transform these properties into breathtaking homes for the chance to win life-changing prize money to secure their own futures.' The live grand final will then see two lucky Australians receive a call telling them they've both won a newly renovated, fully-furnished multi-million-dollar home. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Channel 7 (@channel7) The Block host reacts to rival series While the announcement came just days before The Block's twenty-first season premiered, host Shelley Craft told Yahoo Lifestyle she wishes Adrian all the best in his new venture. 'I was like, 'Oh, there he is!',' she shared about her reaction to the news. 'I was wondering, if he was leaving us behind, where was he going to publicise his next venture? So when I saw him pop up with that, I was like, 'Oh, there you go, that's great'. 'Obviously, his business has an incredible model of lotteries for different things, whether it's jet skis or homes or caravans. The way he's going about this, good luck to them.' Scott's message to rival renovation shows Shelley's comments echo those of Scott Cam, who told Yahoo Lifestyle in 2023 that he wished Dr Chris Brown all the best with his rival renovation series Dream Home, which was cancelled after one season. 'Stay off my turf, Browny!' Scott joked. 'Chris is a great mate of mine, and good luck to him. 'Competition is healthy, and if his show rates reasonably well, that means that people are still interested in this style of television. As soon as they stop watching other shows or our show, then that's the end of that style.' SHOP: 🛏️ Expert reveals secret to the best night's sleep: 'Wouldn't choose anything else' 🛒 Popular Coles product offers a 'simple switch' to up daily protein intake 🏉 Rugby fan's huge airport surprise after landing in Sydney: 'Surreal' He went on to say that he'd never wish 'bad luck' on anyone making TV because he knows firsthand how hard it is to do, adding: 'We don't want them to beat us, of course, if they go head to head, but we don't want them to dismally fail. I know what it's like.'

Employee discovers original gaming console in company trash: 'They still sell for quite a bit'

If you're a video game enthusiast, you'd be surprised at what you can find in your local e-waste dumpster. One Reddit user shared their haul in r/OriginalXbox, much to the envy of commenters. What happened? The original poster stated that they found an Xbox, complete with several games and controllers, in the e-waste dumpster outside their workplace. "It baffles me someone would put this thing in an e-waste when they still sell for quite a bit in Australia as gaming wasn't too big here when this console came out," the OP wrote. A photo shows the incredible find, and despite its age, the system looks relatively new. However, the poster noted that the system does have a few glitches, such as needing to power on the Xbox with the eject button, the fan being loud, and discs not always being read correctly. Still, commenters assured the OP that some of these issues could be fixed with a little TLC. "Open it up, YouTube videos, replace the capacitors, clean it up," one person suggested. "To me that's just sad how they throw away these retro games. Some ppl just don't understand how good these old game consoles are now smh," another said. "The stuff people throw away sometimes is just wild," someone else shared. "No doubt countless perfectly operational valuable and priceless things go to waste all the time." Why does e-waste matter? Electronic waste is one of the worst forms of pollution because it leaches toxic metals into the air and soil. In some ways, it's worse than plastic because of the extent of chemical pollution and the fact that e-waste is often more challenging and costly to recycle. Because of these difficulties in handling e-waste, only about a quarter is recycled worldwide each year, according to a United Nations report. In turn, the global economy suffers from the loss of valuable metals such as gold, copper, and silver. What do you usually do with your old electronics? Store them at home Donate them Trade them for cash Throw them away Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Sircel reported that an estimated $57 billion is lost annually when these materials aren't recovered, leading to higher labor and production costs. If electronics were properly recycled, it would put much less strain on the environment and benefit businesses and consumers as well. Electronic waste also harms humans, especially in developing countries, since the majority of electronics are shipped there for processing. Women and children who work in informal recycling centers are often exposed to thousands of harmful chemicals, which can result in lung and reproductive problems, per the World Health Organization. Are companies doing anything about this? Several major retailers, including Amazon, Apple, and Best Buy, offer trade-in programs that allow customers to exchange unwanted electronics for perks such as store credit or cash back. If the traded devices aren't eligible for credit or cannot be refurbished, they're recycled for free. What else is being done about e-waste? Technological solutions for electronic pollution are also springing up. For instance, some companies are adding mechanical arms to recycling facilities to increase productivity and efficiency, and artificial intelligence-powered robots are also being employed to handle more e-waste. If you have any gadgets hiding in your junk drawers, consider sending them to the startup Trashie with its innovative Tech Take Back Box. It will take care of recycling the items and give you awesome rewards in return, including discounts on shoes and clothing, and food delivery credits. There are endless ways to make money off your old electronics, so choose the method that works best for you.
