The Terrys Cover Black Sabbath's ‘Changes' for ‘Like a Version'

Australian indie rock quintet The Terrys have paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, covering Black Sabbath's 'Changes' for their recent appearance on Like a Version, the long-running covers segment from Australian radio station triple j. Fresh from the release of their self-titled third album in early July, the Gerringong outfit made their return to the triple j studios to perform both an original song and a cover, as is customary for the segment. For the cover portion, the group set their sights on a recently-departed icon, taking on Black Sabbath's 'Changes.' Originally released on 1972's Vol. 4, 'Changes' was a stylistic departure for the English heavy metal pioneers, showing a softer side to their typically-manacing sound. It's long been considered one of their finest moments, with Osbourne later covering the track with daughter Kelly for her debut album of the same name in 2003. That version of the track would top the charts in the U.K., giving Osbourne his first-ever No. 1. 'We couldn't just cover 'Iron Man' or something because we're not that kind of band,' explained vocalist Jacob Finch in a post-performance interview. 'So this was the one; this was always gonna be the one, for sure. It's one of those tracks that gets you right in the heart.' Osbourne passed away on Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 76, just 17 days after making his final appearance as part of the Back to the Beginning concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England. Having first launched in 2004, the Like a Version series has gone from being a near-impromptu acoustic affair to featuring larger studio productions. Numerous artists have taken part over the past two decades, with the likes of Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, Arctic Monkeys, and more reinventing classic tracks in the process. How a small town is turning into an NRL breeding ground

A medium-sized venue is all that's needed to hold Gerringong's entire population, but the tiny town may have produced yet another NRL star. Former Australian and NSW centre Mick Cronin is probably the most famous name to come from the town, about a 90-minute drive from Sydney. It has also produced players such as the Sims brothers, the late Peter Ford, Australian international Rod Wishart and Parramatta five-eighth Ron Quinn. Now Gerringong's Hayden Buchanan may become the next name to make an impact on rugby league. He starred on debut for St George Illawarra, scoring a try and setting up another in Saturday's 22-14 upset win over Cronulla. So just what's happening in the 4100-person town of Gerringong? "I don't know, something weird's going on down there," Buchanan said. "It's people like Scotty Stewart (coach), Johnny Ford (coach) and Mick Cronin. "From a young age, they've instilled a certain level of discipline, toughness and competitive nature, and it just follows through. "When I was 16 and didn't have a licence, (teammate Dylan Egan) drove me to every single academy session. "They've brought Hamish, Dylan, myself, Ashton, the four people this year from the club." Of current NRL players, Manly's Reuben Garrick, St George Illawarra's Hamish Stewart and Dylan Egan, New Zealand Warriors' Jackson Ford, Melbourne's Ashton Ward and Newcastle's Kyle McCarthy also came from the town. Buchanan said he was still relishing the "priceless moment" when he scored his first try. With about 50 of his fans watching from the stands, he strolled over untouched after fullback Clint Gutherson generously handed him the ball. However, the 19-year-old didn't even think he would get a call-up from coach Shane Flanagan, let alone a call the day before the game. Buchanan goes over on debut 💯 — NRL (@NRL) August 9, 2025 "I've been calm, frantic, but it's really good to have it done, and honestly a bit of relief. It's really amazing," Buchanan said. "I never was going to rule anything out ... but I will say this year I didn't think I'd get my debut. "If someone goes down in the captain's run, like yesterday when Michael Molo went down, you always have to mentally prepare as if you're playing." Coach Flanagan was impressed by the teenager's debut. "He defended well and he'll learn from tonight," Flanagan said. "At the back end, I think he was looking at the clock, because the last six or seven minutes he was really gassed."

‘Something weird is going on down there': Hayden Buchanan continues proud Gerringong tradition in NRL with try he'll never forget

Dragons rookie Hayden Buchanan says he owes skipper Clint Gutherson more than a beer for helping him score a debut try that he'll never forget on a day the young centre became the latest product from the Gerringong Lions to make it in the NRL. The Group 7 club has produced famous names like Mick Cronin, Rod Wishart, the Sims siblings and Reuben Garrick, with the south coast town adding a few more in 2025 at the Dragons. Hamish Stewart and Dylan Egan have burst onto the scene in the forwards, while Buchanan looks to be a long-term NRL prospect after he showed off the kind of form that earnt him a place in the NSW under-19 side earlier in the year. Buchanan credits coaches like Scott Stewart and John Ford, as well as veteran players like Nathan Ford and Rixon Russell, for helping nurture local talent from a young age. 'Something weird is going on down there,' he said after he made his debut in Saturday's win over the Sharks. 'I think it's people like Scotty Stewart, Johnny Ford and Mick Cronin. From a young age, they instil a certain level of discipline and toughness and a competitive nature that follows through. 'Leaders like Nathan Ford and Rixon Russell who are still playing first grade – they've won seven first-grade comps down there – so people like them have helped bring Hamish, Dylan, myself and Ashton (Rabbitohs playmaker Ashton Ward) through. 'They are why we are who we are.' Good stuff Buck! Hayden Buchanan becomes Dragon #290 ðŸ‰ — St George Illawarra Dragons (@NRL_Dragons) August 8, 2025 The Lions had a game on at the same time, so a few of Buchanan's closest mates weren't able to get to Kogarah to watch him play, but he still needed 50 tickets for friends and family who braved the rain and were duly rewarded. Buchanan was a late inclusion for the injured Mat Feagai and scored a crucial try four minutes before half-time when Gutherson unselfishly passed him the ball when he could have easily reached the line. 'I owe him a lot more than that,' Buchanan smiled when asked if he owed his fullback a beer. 'He put it on a platter for me and that was special. I saw him look at me and throw the pass, and he said to me straight away 'I've got you, mate'. It was a priceless moment. 'I had no idea (he was going to pass it to me). I just pushed up and hoped for the best.' Buchanan returned the favour early in the second half when he threw a brilliant offload to his fullback to score, with the young centre praising co-captains Gutherson and Damien Cook for giving him the belief to take chances. Buchanan goes over on debut ðŸ'¯ — NRL (@NRL) August 9, 2025 'People like Gutho give me the confidence to do that sort of stuff,' he said. 'One of his sayings is that you live and die by the sword, so people like him and 'Cooky' give you the confidence to think that if you make a mistake so what because at least you gave it a shot.' You could hardly wipe the smile off his face in the sheds on Saturday evening, with Buchanan proud of the journey he's had at the club he joined when he was 15. The Gerringong connection was felt during the week when Garrick and Tyran Wishart messaged him good luck, while Buchanan was super proud to have joined Stewart and Egan as the latest Lions graduates to play first grade. 'I owe a lot of this to them,' he said. 'When I was 16 and didn't have a licence, Dylan drove me to every single academy session. 'I owe both of them a lot.'

Most insane home conversions revealed: from jail cells to luxury pads

They're homes made from old barns, warehouses, grain silos and even police and fire stations. Across NSW, a wave of homebuyers are rewriting the rules of real estate by transforming historic or forgotten buildings into one-of-a-kind residences. At a time when many are battling the brutal reality of the traditional market, visionary buyers are snapping up disused or rundown residences, transforming them into striking living spaces or accommodation. Gerringong Police Station In the Illawarra region, once the original Gerringong Police Station, 89 Fern St is being offered on the market for the first time in over 90 years with a price guide of $3.5m to $3.7m. 'It was the old police station built in 1882 and used as a police station and jail until 1933,' Listing Agent Angie Ritchie of First National Coast & Country Gerringong said. Ms Ritchie said the residence was sold in 1933 and later transformed into a private residence. 'It's been meticulously renovated, it's quite amazing,' she said. 'The original features, the fireplaces, original jail cells are still there with the metal doors, there's also all the bars and there's a peep hole through one of the walls where originally you would have been looking to see the prisoners. 'Where the living area is now, that actually used to be the old exercise yard.' Innisfallen Castle Sitting on a sprawling park-like grounds, the heritage listed estate known as 'Innisfallen Castle' is the namesake of Castle Cove, one of only five castellated mansions in the inner Sydney ring. Currently listed, the residence at 14 Cherry Pl was constructed from sandstone and features a crenellated tower on the northern side, three stories high with a separate staircase used for maid quarters at the time. With only two owners in the 120 years, the eight-bedroom, four bathroom offering is designed in English Gothic perpendicular. 'Built in 1902, it's truly a historic residence,' said Biller Property listing agent Ben Torban. 'The home also comes with a tennis court and over 8000sqm of grounds.' The agents reportedly have interest above $30m. In April 1999, the residence was added to the NSW Heritage Register ensuring the preservation of its history and grounds. The Silos Accommodation NSW farmers Nicholas and Amber Heffernan now own and operate The Silos Accommodation, a quirky and sought-after accommodation offering converted from their disused grain silos. 'It was in the back of our mind for probably more than 20 years,' Mr Heffernan said. 'There were two silos situated on that hill and just in a really good position with a nice view up there.' The pair saw conversions online where people in America where turning silos into homes which encouraged them to follow the idea. 'We had to deconstruct and put a new foundation down and use the silo as the cladding and on the outside of the building once we built it,' Mr Heffernan said. Utilising both silos to create the one accommodation for guests, Ms Heffernan said there's about one and a half used for the residence. 'Every part of the silo was reused in some form ... the panels as the cladding, the old base of the silo and the doors off the silo were used on the old entrance,' she said. They started dismantling in December 2023 with the projects completed at the end of September and opening to public in October 2024. Cooee Architecture Sarah Lebner helped with the designs. Inside, a loft-style bedroom, multiple windows, kitchenette, bath and cosy fireplace and outside, paddock outlooks, fire pit and woodfire hot tub under the stars. Former Salvation Army hall Transforming the bygone Leichhardt Salvation Army hall and stables on Sydney's Lower North Shore into a commercial establishment combined with a family home was the job of Hunt & Design creative director and principal interior designer Maryann Schmidt. Ms Schmidt said the conversion completed in 2024, took a few years with the clients engaging her in 2021. 'The owners came in and fell in love with the building – they wanted to convert it to a home and residence for themselves but also have a commercial site as they're in the creative field, they wanted to create a commercial component that suited their work in film and photography. Ms Schmidt said part of the conversion was to create a multitude of meeting rooms and spaces for people to hold events, a podcast studio and cyc wall that could be rented out for production, film and advertising businesses. 'For the residential side, we created an upstairs area that was a beautiful three bedroom home with ensuite, huge kitchen which they also hire out for commercials and TV shows and things like that,' she said. 'It was really important when we were doing the design that it was pretty wow, but it also had to stay true to the spirit of the home and really accentuated all those beautiful heritage features. 'It's actually two heritage items, the front is the Citadel which is the Salvation Army hall but the back is actually a stables which was built much earlier and the stables is where the kitchen and the cyc wall reside.' Unable to change the roof lining in this space, Ms Schmidt said they included trusses in the kitchen and living space using old railway beams to support the roof but maintain the aesthetic look 'For us it was always going to be about the history of the home when we put together the design and that was really our guiding light and our principles when we were developing the spaces within,' she said. Artist's warehouse conversion An artist's striking warehouse conversion on Barr St in Balmain hit the market for the first time in 40 years, selling at the end of 2024. 'It was owned by quite a renowned artist by the name of Sandra Leveson, who I'm pretty certain purchased it in the 1970s and she did a pretty big conversion of it in the 80s which probably fair to say at the time would've been very futuristic,' CobdenHayson Selling Agent Danny Cobden said. 'During the selling process, because these large warehouse residences are very rare in Balmain I had people looking at it who were potentially going to spend anywhere between $2-5 million on renovating.' Mr Cobden said it was a huge expansive space, integrating the artist's working area for her painting, mezzanine levels, an indoor pool and a separate self-contained area which was almost a separate one bedroom apartment on the ground floor. 'The shell of the warehouse still remained and it had that industrious type feel, but when it was renovated in the 80s it was obviously very cutting edge for the time,' he said. Petersham Fire Station Built in circa 1886, the converted two-storey Petersham fire station at 308-314 was snapped up for a price above $7m in 2018. The two-storey building maintains its heritage features with its unmissable facade sitting on an 891sqm corner position boasting two street frontages. In 2022 the residence which was operating as a luxury Airbnb came to the market once again via Colliers team of Harry Bui and James Cowan have the exclusive listing, with price expectations of over $10 million. The residence at the time boasted offices, a boardroom, bedrooms, seven bathrooms and water closets. The property was the first fire station to be erected in metropolitan Sydney after the establishment of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in 1884, reportedly ceasing operations in 1991 and since upgraded to include residential and hospitality uses. Barn conversion Another conversion saw a farm shed and barn turned into an unusual home. The six-bedroom, two bathroom home in Hinton was a former hay shed in the 1880s which features vintage steel, heritage ironbark timber, exposed steel beams and polished concrete floor. The home last sold in December 2024 for a reported $1,565,000. The residence includes several separate living areas and six large bedrooms, sleeping up to 12 people. Church conversion A home converted from a church also sold in Bondi Junction in February for $4.25m. The landmark Mill Residences church conversion fused gothic revival architecture with cutting edge design.

2025 Gai Waterhouse Classic: Gerringong for John Singleton

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. The party-style atmosphere on Ipswich Cup day may not be the ideal sweet spot for a 'delicate' filly but it is where John Singleton's youngster Gerringong can make a spring carnival statement. Larrikin owner Singleton has slashed his racing interests in recent years but thought enough of Gerringong to keep her to race, in partnership with some rugby league greats including Mick Cronin, Bob O'Reilly and Peter Wynn. The three-year-old filly is favourite for the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) as Waterhouse tries to win the race named after her for the second time in six years. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Gerringong has won two of her five career starts and what stands out on stalks is her effort in the $3m Sunlight 3YO slot race on the Sunshine Coast in January. She finished only 4½ lengths off subsequent Group 1 winner Private Harry, with 2024 Golden Slipper champ Lady of Camelot the runner-up that night. 'The first and second horses in that race were two proper Group 1 horses and she wasn't too far off them, having a luckless run,' co-trainer Adrian Bott said. • Lipp out to fulfil $40m Lotto winner's spring carnival dream 'She was only having her third race start and also probably coming to the back end of her preparation. 'She did a remarkable job in that one campaign and she has shown improvement this time in. 'She is quite a delicate sort of horse but she has got plenty of natural talent. 'As she keeps getting deeper into her career and matures and becomes seasoned, hopefully we can see a nice progressive filly. 'She was showing promise in her early days so Singo was more than happy to hold onto her and some of the other partners (owners) he put into the horse were keen to race her as well.' Gerringong will have plenty of admirers in Saturday's Gai Waterhouse Classic. Picture: Bradley Photos • Warnie can honour cricket legend with consolation victory Gerringong has had two starts this campaign for two runner-up finishes, in the Listed Denise's Joy Stakes at Scone and the Listed Queensland Day Stakes at Eagle Farm. At Eagle Farm, she got well back and rattled to the line. From a wide barrier around the tricky Ipswich track, Bott is hoping the filly can be closer in the run and show she can be a spring carnival player. 'We should be able to give her a nice freshen up after this and find something in the spring for her,' Bott said. • EXPERT TIPS: Graeme Carey's best bets, quaddie picks and race-by-race analysis for Ipswich on Saturday 'Last start, she was a bit slow into stride when I thought she might have been a bit more forward in the run. 'She does have tactical speed, so she may have an opportunity to be a bit more forward at Ipswich to try to offset the barrier. 'This race used to be raced over 1350m and I wouldn't have minded if it still was. 'I think we could stretch this filly to 1400m-1600m going forward, but she will still be good at 1200(m) at this point.' Adrian Bott. Picture: Getty Images • Uncommon James on spring mission after passing 'make or break' prep Sydney jockey Regan Bayliss will have the job of working some magic with Gerringong from the wide barrier. Bayliss has a strong book of rides on Ipswich Cup day including Osmose for Waterhouse and Bott in the Ipswich Cup and Eye Liner Stakes favourite Warnie for Ciaron Maher.
