Former Georgia LB Nakobe Dean throws out first pitch for top Braves rival
Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Nakobe Dean threw out the first pitch of the Philadelphia Phillies' June 11 home game against the Chicago Cubs. Dean won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles this past NFL season.
Dean took advantage of an awesome opportunity to throw a first pitch at a MLB game, which is something most people never get a chance to do. Dean delivered with a pretty good pitch after receiving applause from Philadelphia fans.
Georgia fans that are also Atlanta Braves fans may not be ecstatic to see Dean throw out a first pitch for another MLB team, especially since the Phillies are one of the Braves' most hated NL East rivals. However, the chance to throw out a first pitch is not one that almost anybody should ever pass up. Dean, who is from Horn Lake, Mississippi, is not necessarily a Braves fan.
Dean delivered the first pitch despite recovering from a torn patellar tendon he suffered during NFL postseason. He has been unable to participate in spring practice with the Eagles and definitely took it easy on his first pitch. Interestingly, Dean has been doing some ballet as part of his rehab to recover from the injury.

DNVR's Zac Stevens observed at last week's open practice that Nix was coaching up teammates more often than he did in 2024. "I feel like I'm a lot further [along]," Nix said last week. "Just spitting out play calls a lot easier and just processing. ... It's a lot better and a lot more enjoyable not thinking right now as opposed to what I was doing last year. It's fun, it's fun to be in the know and it's fun to have a little more of an understanding of what's going on so I can be a little more beneficial to others and help them out along the way." Advertisement Nix later noted that, unlike last year, when he gets to the line of scrimmage now, he's looking at the defense and processing and reacting to them instead of thinking about the offensive play or his footwork or a motion. His offensive responsibilities are second nature now, allowing him to focus on attacking the defense on each play. "I feel good," Nix said. "We're in a good spot.' In a Barstool Sports video that appeared on X, Skattebo was looking at photos of some of the NFL's greatest players on his phone and was asked to identify each by name. Johnson was later identified only after Skattebo received hints. A fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, Skattebo took college football by storm last season, rushing for over 1,700 yards and a whopping 21 TDs. Skattebo's effectiveness inside the red zone is the reason he is fighting for a spot on the Giants roster.
