Janeshwar Mishra Park to give city the thrills, adventure rides
Are you looking for some adrenaline rush? If so, and provided that you live in the city, then you do not have to look far and wide, as Janeshwar Mishra Park (JMP) in Gomti Nagar may soon become your perfect getaway.
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has set the ball rolling for a 15-metre-high multi-activity tower for adventure sports near JMP's Gate 4. The facility, when in operation, is likely to offer activities such as zip-line, sky-cycling, wall climbing and bungee jumping. Also, rifle shooting, archery, roller-coaster ride, giant swing and bull ride may entice the thrill-seekers.
LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar inspected the park on Wednesday and directed officials to complete the project within three months. Spread across 1.5 acres, the zone will also include two canteens and paved pathways to ensure easy access for visitors. The project aims to provide the townsfolk with more recreational options and attract tourists by turning the park into an adventure hub.
Also, LDA will build a new pedestrian bridge over the water body, connecting the rose garden and the national flag area. During the inspection, Kumar noted that visitors currently face inconvenience due to the long detour. He asked for an attractive bridge design to be prepared by a consultant.
Kumar also expressed dissatisfaction with poor cleanliness in the park. He reprimanded the officials concerned and summoned a report from the agency responsible.
Meanwhile, to enhance the city's riverfront experience, LDA is developing a food court near Marine Drive along the Gomti Riverfront. Ten shops are being constructed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Kumar instructed that the work be completed within a month so that the food court can be opened to the public at the earliest.
In addition to land-based activities, the city is also gearing up to offer water sports. LDA is conducting trial runs of jet skis, speed boats, and motor boats at the Laxman Mela site on the Gomti. During his inspection, the VC directed the agency concerned to prioritise public safety and ensure that basic facilities like a food kiosk, office/waiting area, and proper parking were made available before the launch of full operations.

Delhi plans ropeway along Yamuna to boost tourism
In a first for the national capital, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to build a ropeway system along the Yamuna which will offer panoramic views of religious landmarks, riverbanks, and Old Delhi. The ropeway is likely to start from the Kalindi Aviral project along the Yamuna floodplains. The design capacity is targeted at 3,000 passengers per hour per direction, with each gondola capable of carrying eight to 10 passengers. The point of origin to destination, number of intermediate stations, ad location of towers has yet to be decided. 'The aerial transit line is aimed at increasing tourism and decongesting traffic and providing a unique commuter and tourist experience. It is being planned on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. There will be minimal land acquisition as most towers will be set up on government land or existing rights-of-way. We are looking at this not just as transport, but as a tourism and heritage experience,' the official said. The Kalindi Aviral project is currently being developed along the western bank of Yamuna over a total area of 163 hectares. It covers the stretch from NH24 to Barapullah drain and Baansera park near Sarai Kale Khan that has already been inaugurated is a part of this project. DDA is in the process of hiring a contractor to carry out a detailed feasibility study and technical surveys for developing the ropeway system. Once the projects starts, 18 months will be allowed for construction, officials said. According to a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by DDA, the consultant will also carry out benchmarking study of different ropeway systems across the world and compare them on key parameters related to the project topography, length, capacity and other features. 'The consultant shall identify critical success factors for these projects, assess the various ropeway technologies and the standards available for development and operations of ropeway systems and suggest the best suitable standards considering the project function and out detailed demand assessment through primary surveys and secondary analysis to arrive at the current and future demand potential for the ropeway project,' the RFP said. The selected consultant will also prepare line estimates or project cost for developing the ropeway system at the project location and carry out detailed financial and economic analysis, sensitivity analysis, social and environmental impact assessment. 'The consultant shall also carry out the feasibility study and the necessary survey for parking space of vehicles of passengers, its approach and functioning of parking for peak load with future expansion and demand,' the RFP said. Lieutenant governor (LG) VK Saxena had in January directed DDA to start the process to survey and select sites for installing ropeways or cableways that can carry passengers in cable cars across the Yamuna.

Startups raise funds but valuations shrink
This is an AI-generated image, used for representational purposes only BENGALURU: Over the past two years, an increasing number of Indian startups raised capital at significantly lower valuations, reflecting a sustained reset in the late-stage venture funding market. According to data from Tracxn, at least 55 companies across sectors like fintech, SaaS, and consumer internet experienced valuation declines since January 2023. Notable markdowns include Cred, which raised $75 million in May at a valuation of approximately $3.5 billion-down nearly 45% from its 2022 peak of $6.4 billion. Meesho secured $275 million last year at a $3.9 billion valuation, reduced from $4.9 billion previously. Oyo raised $175 million in 2023 at an implied valuation of about $2.5 billion, a steep drop from its earlier high near $10 billion. Swiggy also lowered its valuation targets while preparing for its IPO, raising $46 million in 2023. Beyond these well-known names, valuation markdowns affected a wide range of companies, including Flipkart, Pratilipi, Shiprocket, MobiKwik, GreyHR, Zolo, Lendingkart, Udaan, PayMate, Pepperfry, OfBusiness, Fisdom, and others. These adjustments spanned both primary and secondary transactions, with several companies recalibrating their private valuations in preparation for upcoming public listings. Venture investors point to a combination of inflated valuations during the 2021-2022 boom cycle and a subsequent recalibration of revenue multiples. "The fundamental problem is not with the companies themselves. Many of these companies continue to grow. The markdowns are largely a reset from highly inflated multiples that investors were willing to pay during 2021 and 2022," said Mohan Kumar, founder and managing partner at Avataar Venture Partners. He said that SaaS companies, which saw revenue multiples of 30-100 times during the peak funding period, largely reverted to historical norms. "For late-stage SaaS companies today, if you are growing at 30% and profitable, you may command around 10 times revenue. For others, the multiple is more in the 7-8 times range. The pandemic era was an aberration where free capital distorted pricing," Kumar added. In enterprise software, which saw some of the steepest pandemic-driven valuation spikes, multiple compression drove significant markdowns. Postman, for instance, saw secondary transactions at valuation levels 30-40% below its earlier $5.6 billion peak. Investors now broadly expect valuations to remain tied closely to profitability and revenue growth metrics. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
