J&K Waqf Board hands over appointment letter to brother of local killed in Pahalgam terror attack

Hans India01-05-2025
Srinagar: J&K Waqf Board Chairperson, Darakhshan Andrabi, handed over the appointment letter to the brother of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the pony wallah, who was killed by terrorists in the Pahalgam attack while he tried to save tourists.
Speaking to reporters, Andrabi said that the next of kin of Adil has been provided the job letter to honour the sacrifice of the horse ride operator.
'His sacrifice will always be remembered,' Andrabi said.
Eye-witnesses claimed Syed Adil Hussain had a scuffle with the terrorists when he asked them why they were killing innocent people.
They further claimed that he tried to snatch the weapons of one terrorist but was shot dead during the scuffle.
At least 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, were killed on April 22 by the terrorists in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam. The nation was outraged by the terror attack.
In his first reaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the terrorists, their handlers and backers would he chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth.
After a meeting with the Defence Minister, National Security Advisor, Chief of Defence Services (CDS), three chiefs of Army, Navy and the Air Force, the Prime Minister announced that the armed forces had been given free hand to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack by deciding the timing, target and the magnitude of the response against the terrorists, true backers and handlers.
On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had a 40-minute-long meeting with the Prime Minister. The Defence Minister met PM Modi after he received a detailed briefing by the CDS on the preparedness of the country's armed forces to meet any eventuality.
J&K L-G also held a security review meeting with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar a few days ago, and asked the Army to use whatever force is required to hunt down the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Meanwhile, to send a powerful message to terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathisers, security forces continue demolition of the houses of terrorists.
Last Friday, two houses belonging to Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were demolished in the Tral and Bijbehara areas. Both these terrorists were part of the LeT terrorist group involved in the Pahalgam killings.
Security forces have so far demolished the houses of 10 terrorists, who are reportedly still active in the Kashmir Valley.
On Monday, the J&K Assembly unanimously condemned the dastardly terrorist attack and passed a resolution on this.

Jaisalmer youth held on charges of spying for Pakistan, fourth espionage case in 2025

JAIPUR: Investigation agencies in Rajasthan have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of espionage in the Army area along the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur road. The suspect, identified as Jeevan Khan, was detained on Tuesday while allegedly speaking on Pakistani phone numbers. Officials said several other Pakistani contacts were saved in his mobile phone. He will be handed over to the Joint Investigation Committee for interrogation. According to sources, Khan had earlier worked at a restaurant in the Army area two to three years ago and had recently returned for work. He had been under surveillance for some time, with his calls and movements closely monitored. On Tuesday, officials intercepted him while he was on a call with a Pakistani number. Following Operation Sindoor, security agencies have stepped up vigilance in Rajasthan's border areas, keeping a close watch on individuals suspected of links with Pakistan. This marks the third espionage arrest since Operation Sindoor and the fourth case reported this year. Earlier this month, the arrest of DRDO guest house manager Mahendra Prasad in Jaisalmer had raised alarm among security agencies. Investigations revealed Prasad was in touch with a Pakistani handler using the name 'Colonel AK Singh' and had shared sensitive information about scientists visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range guest house. He also allegedly provided photographs of the area and details of local activities during Operation Sindoor. He remains in police custody until August 15. Khan's arrest adds to a series of espionage cases uncovered this year in Jaisalmer district. On 26 March, Rajasthan Intelligence arrested Pathan Khan, a resident of Karam Ki Dhani near the Chandan Field Firing Range, under the Official Secrets Act, days before the Pahalgam terror attack. On 28 May, investigators detained Shakoor Khan, a government employee and personal assistant to former Congress minister Saleh Mohammad, on similar charges and formally arrested him on 3 June. With four arrests in less than five months, intelligence and security agencies remain on high alert to prevent further spying attempts in Rajasthan's sensitive border areas.

Centre To Reduce Army Presence In Urban, Semi-Urban, And Interior Areas Of J&K: Sources To News18

Last Updated: According to sources, the local populace has grown weary of militancy and is now actively seeking peace and development The Centre has decided to reduce the number of Indian Army personnel deployed in the urban, semi-urban, and interior areas of Jammu and Kashmir, CNN-News18 has learnt. This marks a strategic shift in the security paradigm of the region, which has been under heavy military presence for decades. According to government sources, the specialised counter-insurgency units of the Rashtriya Rifles will be gradually withdrawn from towns and cities in Kashmir and will be repositioned to focus exclusively on securing the borders. The void left by the Army will be filled by paramilitary forces. Specifically, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be tasked with maintaining law and order in the towns and cities, while their units will be stationed in the interior settlements to manage local security needs. This decision is seen as a direct consequence of the improved security situation in the union territory, a development the government attributes to the abrogation of Article 370 sections in August 2019. The removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was followed by a massive deployment of security forces to prevent any large-scale unrest. Now, five years on, the government believes the situation has stabilised to a point where a scaled-back military presence is feasible, sources say. The clarification from government sources comes on the back of widespread speculation that the troop movement in J&K is a sign that restoration of statehood is in the offing. According to them, the local populace has grown weary of militancy and is now actively seeking peace and development. Therefore, the Army's role, which was once crucial for counterinsurgency in these areas, is no longer deemed necessary. The new arrangement allows the Army to return to its primary role of protecting the nation's borders, while the CRPF, with its expertise in handling internal security and law enforcement, takes the lead on the ground. This transition is being seen as a major step towards demilitarisation and a sign that a new, more peaceful era has begun in Jammu and Kashmir. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
