Genelia D'Souza reacts to 2012 rumours of marrying John Abraham on Force set.
Genelia D'Souza has finally addressed one of the strangest rumours from her career — claims that she and co-star John Abraham were 'accidentally" married during the shoot of their 2011 action film Force.
In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actress cleared the air, debunking the bizarre story that had sparked wild speculation back in 2012. According to the rumour, a real priest had been brought on set to perform a wedding scene between the two actors — complete with rituals like mantras, garlands, the mangalsutra, and even the seven pheras — supposedly resulting in a legal marriage.
Reacting to it all, Genelia said, 'There was no truth to it. We didn't get married. These stories were spread by PR, and I think you should ask them why they did it."
The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na star made it clear that the buzz had no basis in reality and was entirely manufactured by PR machinery. Despite how viral the story became at the time, Genelia maintained that neither she nor John Abraham had anything to do with fuelling the narrative. Today, Genelia is happily married to actor Riteish Deshmukh. The two tied the knot in 2012 and are now parents to two children. John is married to Priya Runchal.
Ahead of its release, the actress sat for an interview and talked about her decision to take a 10-year break from acting and the limelight after her marriage to Riteish Deshmukh.
During a conversation with Zoom, Genelia said, 'Most people ask me if it's easy to step away from the limelight for 10 years and I said, 'It's what I wanted to do, so I did it.' I saw a place after 10 years and I am happy in that place. I may not do 10 films, I may do three films, but my happiness is with that and that's what matters the most."
Genelia took a break from acting in 2012 after tying the knot with Riteish. She made her acting comeback with the Marathi film Ved. Released in 2022, the film was directed by Riteish himself and turned out to be a hit. However, the actress made cameo appearances in films like Jai Ho and Force 2.

Mandira Bedi Recalls Being Called 'Bimbo' On Cricket Panel: 'I Felt Very Disrespected'

Last Updated: Mandira not only changed perceptions but also paved the way for women in Indian sports broadcasting. Mandira Bedi, a pioneer in Indian television and fitness, has also had a groundbreaking journey in cricket broadcasting. However, her entry into the male-dominated arena wasn't met with open arms. In an interview with Zoom, the actress opened up about the judgment and exclusion she faced during her time as a cricket presenter. Mandira, who made headlines for bringing glamour to cricket commentary, revealed she was often met with disdain by fellow panellists. 'The judgment actually came from the people who were on the panel. They were not very accepting of me. If I asked a question, they'd just stare me down and talk about whatever they wanted to talk about, and I'd be left like do I even exist here? I did feel very disrespected and I didn't like the way I felt very excluded," she said. Despite the cold shoulder, Mandira didn't back down. With time and confidence, she pushed forward and took command of her role on live television. 'Even if they didn't respect me personally, they had no choice but to show me respect on screen," she recalled, adding that her refusal to be silenced earned her space in the panel. She also touched upon the trolling she experienced well before the age of social media. The channel had advised her not to engage with online commentary initially. 'Only when I found my feet and I was feeling good and comfortable, they said, 'Go ahead now. See whatever.' And I saw the stuff that was written about me." The remarks were hurtful. 'It doesn't feel nice to be called a bimbo or an airhead or a dummy," she said. But Mandira stood firm. 'I'm here and I'm finishing this tournament and having fun." Mandira not only changed perceptions but also paved the way for women in Indian sports broadcasting. Location : Mumbai, India, India First Published: June 19, 2025, 02:48 IST
