Delta Airlines adds new direct flight from Huntsville to New York City

Yahoo16-04-2025
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Travelers can now fly from Huntsville International Airport to LaGuardia on a non-stop Delta Airlines flight.
'This really fills a hole on the map in terms of passenger demand, and we're excited not only from a business perspective for travel, but also from a leisure perspective,' said HSV Business Development Manager Thomas Laming.
Previously, travelers had to fly through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to reach New York. Representatives for Delta Airlines said the route has been increasing in popularity, with a 30% rise in demand for summer seats.
'It's definitely one of the number one flows that we've seen over our existing services, especially over Atlanta,' said Delta Spokesperson Amy Martin. 'It makes sense to be able to connect the two markets nonstop, which is a lot more convenient. It's a 2.5-hour flight with no stops and I think serves a need in the market.'
The Bombardier CRJ-900 airplane sits 76 passengers and flies out of HSV at 7 a.m. and returns at 9:30 in the evening. It operates Sunday through Friday, year-round and has first class, comfort class, and main cabin options.
'It's a big win for those passengers needing that service and it's coming at a convenient time as well,' Martin said. 'If you're going in for business, that's a great time channel to be getting into Manhattan for meetings, but it's also a great time if you're going up to see a show or enjoy everything that New York has to offer.'
Martin said Delta Airlines will continue to invest in Huntsville International Airport.

Allegiant Airlines Announces Another Round of Route Expansions

As other popular budget airlines like Spirit are facing bankruptcy, Allegiant is expanding its service across the United States by adding five new routes to its repertoire. The company announced on Tuesday, August 12, that it is increasing its number of daily routes as well as adding a new airport to its list of those it services. In a press release on the Allegiant website, the airline announced that it will begin to service the city of Huntsville, Alabama with three new flights to different destinations in Florida. It will operate out of the Huntsville International Airport, which also hosts American, Delta, and United Airlines. All of Allegiant's five new routes will involve destinations in parts of Florida that are popular domestic tourism hotspots. The flights from Huntsville will travel either to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, St. Pete-Clearwater, or Orlando Sanford Airport. Allegiant's other two new flights will be added to the Appleton International Airport in Wisconsin and the Frederick Douglas Greater Rochester International Airport in New York. These routes will take passengers from Appleton, Wisconsin to the Orlando area and from New York to Sarasota. These new routes come on the heels of fast growth for the Las Vegas based airline, which also added seven new routes in late July. Six of these routes also involved the state of Florida. While tickets for Allegiant's new routes are available to purchase, they will not begin until at least late 2025. The new dates, as announced by Allegiant, will be rolled out between November 2025 and March Airlines Announces Another Round of Route Expansions first appeared on Men's Journal on Aug 12, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword

Delta Sends Warning to All Customers After Disappointing Decision

Delta Air Lines was dealt a pretty significant blow this week as the U.S. Department of Justice made a decision that seriously hinders one of its key partnerships. Now, the airline has issued a warning about what it will mean for its customers. Over the years, Delta has had a long-standing alliance with Grupo Aeromexico, allowing the two carriers to coordinate flight planning and pricing. However, that partnership is now under threat following a recent move by the U.S. Department of Justice. DOJ Shuts Down Antitrust Immunity In a filing made Monday, the DOJ determined that the two airlines should lose their antitrust immunity, claiming that the Mexican government has engaged in restrictive and potentially discriminatory practices that have stifled competition. This development follows a warning issued last month by the U.S. Department of Transportation, which urged Mexico to address anticompetitive conduct, according to Bloomberg. In its Monday filing, the Justice Department argued that actions by Mexico's government 'have limited entry and expansion by certain carriers' at Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport and "thereby undermined competitive conditions in Mexico, thwarting open market access on routes between Mexico and the United States." Bloomberg also reported that the DOT believes Mexico has been in violation of a 2015 agreement since 2022 by taking slots away from U.S. airlines at Benito Juarez Airport and imposing restrictions on air cargo flights there. Delta Pushes Back on the Decision Following the decision, Delta issued a joint statement with Grupo Aeromexico saying it 'would punish a US company and US consumers" and not the government of Mexico. 'Other, superior measures are available to remedy the situation with the GOM without harming the US economy; the Department should pursue those alternatives instead,' the airlines wrote in their joint statement. Delta claimed in its joint statement that the alliance between the two airlines 'fosters enhanced competition' with other U.S. and Mexican carriers. Delta Issues a Warning to Customers The decision from the DOJ marks a significant turning point for a partnership that dates back to 2011. Last month, Delta issued a pretty clear warning to its customers about what this change could mean for travel between the United States and Mexico. "The U.S. Department of Transportation's tentative proposal to terminate its approval of the strategic and pro-competitive partnership between Delta and Aeromexico would cause significant harm to consumers traveling between the U.S. and Mexico, as well as U.S. jobs, communities, and transborder competition," Delta said in a statement last month via the Associated Press. The U.S. claims that the alliance no longer 'serves the public interest,' but Delta clearly disagrees.
