EXCLUSIVE Did Meghan go toe-to-toe with Anna Wintour? Source claims Vogue editor 'banned' Duchess from cover after becoming 'frustrated' with her 'micromanaging'

Daily Mail4 days ago

Meghan Markle was 'banned' by Anna Wintour from being on the cover of British Vogue in September 2022 after the magazine boss became 'frustrated with all the Duchess of Sussex 's team's micromanaging', according to a source.
This apparently resulted in Prince Harry 's wife and the former editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful, 'drifting apart' amid rumours in fashion circles of a falling out between the two over the planned Vogue feature on the Duchess's charitable work.
The magazine coverage was designed to tie in with Meghan's keynote appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in September 2022. But Conde Nast insiders claim it was abruptly pulled and scrapped completely.
An insider told FEMAIL that Meghan was being 'difficult about making it a cover' and her team were 'insisting on particular straplines'. They added: 'Anna heard about it, and just like banned her and said, "That's it. We don't want to do this".
'And so she didn't get the cover, and I guess she didn't even get the story. [Edward] probably agreed with Anna that you don't get to call the shots on who's on the cover. That's absolutely an editor's decision.
'Anna was p***** off. Anna was like frustrated with all the micromanaging, and just was like, "All right. That's it. She can't have the cover and we're not doing the story".'
The source added that Meghan's 'level of desire for detail and control on the media is almost like Beyoncé level... but she's not Beyoncé.'
However, the Duchess is said to have been relaxed with 'no expectations' but her team had 'high expectations for the piece' in Vogue.
'Enninful was not in a position to meet those expectations. He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month,' said Conde Nast insiders to the Mail On Sunday.
British Vogue's September 2022 cover star was Canadian fashion model Linda Evangelista.
According to insiders, the project about Meghan's work needed a full production team including photographers, videographers, stylists and editors to shoot exclusive images and film an in-depth video feature with the Sussexes.
Shelving the project is said to have damaged Enninful and the Duchess' friendship. 'Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Conde Nast,' a source told the MoS.
Sources claim that Meghan's team had hoped the couple could feature on a special digital cover Vogue, which is released alongside the print edition.
But again, it is understood that Enninful declined. 'He didn't think it was appropriate to give her the cover,' the source explained.
Tight timings meant the whole project was eventually shelved and relations between the pair moved to only irregular contact.
However, a source close to the Duchess says they have been in touch again recently. In August, Edward's team sent flowers to the Duchess to mark her 43rd birthday.
Insiders admit that there has been a 'drifting' of their friendship with one source close to the Duchess saying, 'time and geography mean that Edward and Meghan just don't get to see each other as much as they did when both were living in London.'
The source continued, 'friendships drift over time, but the pair have exchanged cards and flowers for one another's birthday and text each other from time to time to offer support for one another's ventures.'
Their friendship first grew from Enninful's invitation to the Duchess to guest-edit the fashion bible six years ago. Meghan said at the time that they were 'like-minded thinkers' who enjoyed 'philosophising' over steaming cups of mint tea.
Sources add that during the years that followed Enninful has increased his public involvement with the Royal Family, and a source close to Meghan claims that 'obviously this is a tightrope that Edward has to walk. He wouldn't want to take sides'.
Enninful was initially supportive of her now-infamous 'Megxit' Oprah interview in 2021.
Enninful, who was awarded an OBE in 2016 for his services to diversity in the fashion industry, is a trustee for The King's Fund, King Charles's charity, and interviewed the monarch for Vogue when he was still Prince of Wales in 2020. He attended his coronation in 2023, despite his open support of the Sussexes.
Enninful follows all three of the King's charitable organisations on Instagram – but tellingly, does not follow Meghan or any of her enterprises. A source close to the Duchess said: 'She doesn't read anything into that because he doesn't follow his sister either.'
In 2019, Meghan and Enninful collaborated on an issue of British Vogue which became the fastest-selling in the magazine's 104-year history, selling out in ten days.
The 'Forces for Change' issue put inspirational women – including former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern and actresses Gemma Chan and Jane Fonda – on the cover.
The following year Enninful addressed criticism Meghan had received when she joined the Royal Family.
He defended the Duchess, calling her a 'brave woman' and describing the treatment of her as 'very unfair' and 'harsh'.
But he said he 'wouldn't just blame it on racism', adding: 'I think sometimes it takes a minute to understand the rules.' Whether he would defend her again today is another matter.
Sources close to Meghan deny that she ever sought a Vogue cover and say she had been invited to appear.
The Duchess of Sussex's representatives were approached for comment by the MailOnline. MailOnline also approached Conde Nast for comment.

Angela Scanlon claims Strictly Come Dancing left her in more pain than childbirth as she recalls nasty injuries that left her BLEEDING

Angela Scanlon has claimed Strictly Come Dancing left her in more pain than childbirth as she detailed the horror injuries she sustained from the long-running show. The Irish TV presenter, 41, took part in the Saturday night BBC series back in 2023 and danced with professional Carlos Gu, 32. However, despite waltzing all the way through the competition and finishing in sixth place, Angela's stint left her with nasty 'raw, bleeding blisters'. Speaking to reality TV star Vicky Pattison, 37, on their Get A Grip podcast, Angela said: 'I've had two children without pain relief and would do that ten times over in a day than have raw, bleeding blisters. 'You have to put the goddamn shoes on and do a Viennese waltz - my heels have never had so much action. The Irish TV presenter, 41, took part in the Saturday night BBC series back in 2023 and danced with professional Carlos Gu, 32 'You put a plaster on and, because you're sweating like a donkey, it falls off. You put socks on with your ballroom shoe, and you're still rub-a-dubbing. 'You're raw.' Angela has two daughters with her entrepreneur husband Rory Horgan - Ruby, seven, and Marnie, three. The pair married in 2014 and Rory, who works in corporate banking, tends to keep a low profile compared to his wife. Angela gave birth to her first daughter Ruby in 2018, while Marnie was delivered in 2022 - just a year before she signed up to Strictly. She's not the first Strictly Come Dancing celebrity to have sustained a number of nasty injuries since its launch in 2004. Just last year DIY SOS star Nick Knowles badly injured his knee during training after a jump went wrong. The 62-year-old had to have two operations to aid his recovery. Big Brother host AJ Odudu was also left on crutches in 2021 when she tore a ligament, with the star revealing how her ligament in the arch of her foot was left ' hanging by a thread '. Zara McDermott previously told how her feet were left bleeding over the show's intensive training sessions back in 2023. She told how she was left with just three toenails following her appearances in the ballroom and shared a photo of her nasty foot wounds including one on her big toe, saying: 'Half my toe has come off tbh.' Meanwhile, earlier this month Angela bravely opened up about her ongoing battle with loneliness, revealing it became so bad she suffered a breakdown as a result. She hit breaking point during a CoppaFeel! charity trek in the Himalayas, India last November. Angela was a team leader during the trip alongside fellow TV presenter Emma Willis, entrepreneur Sara Davies and Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown. Sharing her emotional story in a Substack post, Angela said she had hoped simply to motivate the female trekkers, all of whom had had breast cancer. However, just days into the challenging trek, she found herself overwhelmed by the emotional intensity of the experience. 'A couple of days in - I cracked. Full breakdown. Ugly crying into my yak-themed duvet,' she shared. She added she thought to herself at the time, 'I can't do this. I'm not the right person. What the actual f*** was I thinking? How arrogant was I to believe I'm equipped to hold these brilliant women at such a tender time?'

Secret tunnels that inspired James Bond to open for the first time

A secret network of World War II tunnels in London, which inspired the James Bond books, is set to open as a spy museum. The tunnels, located 40 metres below High Holborn, were originally built as air raid shelters during the Blitz and later used by the Special Operations Executive. The London Tunnels company is collaborating with the Museum of Military Intelligence (MMI) to create a permanent exhibition showcasing the history of military intelligence, including artefacts, equipment, and stories from various conflicts. The exhibition will feature stories from the Battle of Britain, D-Day, Cold War espionage, the Falklands War, and more recent military operations. Work on the museum is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected in 2028, and is projected to attract up to three million visitors per year, boosting local spending and creating jobs.

ITV reality star reveals life-changing health diagnosis aged 46, saying ‘I feel numb'

REALITY TV star Natalie Russell has opened up about her recent life-changing diagnosis. The star of the ITV series, My Mum, Your Dad revealed she had been diagnosed with ADHD, saying she was "feeling numb" after hearing the news. 3 3 Short for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD is a disorder that affects peoples ability to regulate their attention, energy levels and impulse control. As Natalie pointed out in her Instagram video revealing her diagnosis, there has been increasing numbers of cases being picked up in adulthood. The 45-year-old said getting the diagnosis "brought up a lot of things, and it's made a lot of things make sense." "There's that kind of relief and self-understanding that comes with it, and then there's also probably some grief there of knowing that had I had that understanding earlier on in life... might have changed the course of things for me," Natalie said. "There's so many things that I'm now looking back at and going, 'oh, that explains it'." Natalie spoke on experiencing emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity disorder which are common symptoms of ADHD. "It's interesting times [for me], and I think I've definitely felt my symptoms more because of my perimenopause... it's become so much more apparent, and I've found that quite frustrating," she said. "Although I knew I had a lot of the symptoms, I think just hearing someone else confirm it [has helped]." Natalie added: "I think the fundamental part of it is like self-acceptance. and compassion for yourself. "That's so key, because I'm having to extend a lot of grace to myself." Natalie's followers thanked her for her honesty and reacted to the video in the comments section of her post. "It's a complex thing to process so definitely give yourself the time you need - lots of mixed emotions, and I'm sure the waves will rise and fall as you come to terms with them," wrote one person. Another added: "Absolutely love you, you always speak from the heart." And a third commented: "Thankyou for sharing. I can relate to every word." The 9 signs of ADHD in adults ADHD has long been associated with naughty schoolkids who cannot sit still in class. And that is part of it. Fidgeting, daydreaming and getting easily distracted are all symptoms of the behavioural condition, which is why it is often spotted in children. However, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is far more complex than simply having trouble focusing. Henry Shelford, CEO and co-founder of ADHD UK, says: 'If it isn't debilitating, it isn't ADHD.' In recent years, social media has given rise to trends which conflate specific personality traits or single behaviours with ADHD. You might be thinking, 'I'm always losing my keys, forgetting birthdays and I can never concentrate at work — I must have ADHD'. But it's not as simple as that. Though these may all point to the condition, Dr Elena Touroni, a consultant psychologist and co-founder of The Chelsea Psychology Clinic, says: 'The key distinction lies in how much a behaviour impacts a person's daily life. 'Genuine ADHD symptoms affect multiple areas of life - work, relationships and emotional wellbeing - whereas personality traits are typically context-dependent and less disruptive.' ADHD UK's Henry, who has the condition himself, adds: 'Having ADHD is hard. One in ten men with ADHD and one in four women with ADHD will at some point try to take their own lives.' So how can ADHD manifest in someone's life? While hyperactivity is a common indicator, here are nine other subtle signs: Time blindness - losing track of time, underestimating how long tasks will take, regularly being late or excessively early Lack of organisation - a messy home, frequently misplacing items, forgetting deadlines Hyperfocus - becoming deeply engrossed in activities for hours Procrastination - feeling overwhelmed by to-do lists and struggling to determine what needs your attention first so focusing on less important tasks Heightened emotions - emotional struggles can manifest in angry outbursts, feeling flooded with joy or shutting down because you feel too much at once Being a 'yes man' - agreeing to new projects at work or dinner dates with friends when you're already busy (a desire to please) Impatience - interrupting people mid-conversation, finding it painful to stand in a queue, being overly chatty Restlessness - tapping, pacing, fidgeting or feeling restless on the inside Easily distracted - by external things, like noises, or internal things like thoughts Natalie, who is a self-esteem and relationship recovery coach appeared on My Mum, Your Dad. She was partnered up with Paul Edwards, 47, in the hit ITV show - but it wasn't meant to be as they split soon after filming was over.
