
Firozabad court sentences accused to life in minor rape-murder case

The accused, identified as Kaushal, was out on bail when he raped and killed an eight-year-old girl in Firozabad's Narkhi village in June this year. Police found the girl's body in a sack hidden between piles of bricks at the accused's house on June 19. Although he tried to escape but was arrested after being injured. Three of his family members were also arrested.
The victim girl from Hathras had come to the village in Firozabad to stay with her maternal uncle and grandmother but was later reported missing.
Three family members of the accused— his father, Manish Kumar, mother and brother Arjun Singh— were arrested in connection with the case.
Kaushal Kushwaha has a criminal history and has been now booked under section 137(2) (kidnapping) with added section of 65(2) (rape of girl below 16 years), 66 (death during sexual offence), 103(1) (murder), 238 (disappearance of evidence) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of POCSO Act at Narkhi police station of Firozabad district, the SSP informed.
The family members are booked under section 238 (disappearance of evidence or false statement to screen the offender) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at the same police station.
SSP Dixit stated that the police were fully prepared to ensure a speedy trial, which was completed within 45 days of the incident. In his verdict, the Special Judge of the POCSO Court in Firozabad sentenced the main accused to life imprisonment till his last breath and imposed a penalty of ₹1,40,000. The three co-accused, all family members of the main accused, were sentenced to seven years' imprisonment each along with a fine of ₹20,000.
The police obtained the DNA report within 10 days, confirming the accused's involvement with the help of the forensic department. The court took cognizance of the chargesheet, which was filed within just six days of the incident.

Ranchi: Railway magistrate Bijai Yadav on Tuesday sentenced a railway ticket fraudster to six years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him. The fruad would have to undergo additional three months' jail term for default in payment. Magistrate Bijai Yadav sentenced Bir Bahadur Sahni, a native of Muzzafarpur district in Bihar, to two years each under sections 318 (4) and 336 and one year each under sections 340 and 341 (2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All the sentences would run consecutively. Sources said Sahni used to purchase general class tickets for short distances in trains and used mirco stamps to convert it into long distance. He used to reach the stations when the trains were about to srat the journey and exchanged his fake tickets with genuine ones of gullible passengers. He then used to return to the railway ticket counters and return the tickets of higher value, stating that he did not want to travel. Sahni used to target the general class passengers as ticket checking is not very strict in these coaches. His targets were mainly the workers and economically weaker sections who travelled to different parts of the country. He duped the passengers at both Ranchi and the Hatia stations. Sahni was nabbed by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from the Hatia police station limits in an operation carried out on December 8 2024. A total of 70 micro stamps of different stations and 45 of different prices, which were used to change the nature of the tickets, were seized from him. The convict is lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail. The prosecution examined 11 witnesses to establish its argument during the trail. A case was also registered against Sahni in Lucknow.

Five, including ex-bank employee, arrested for cyber fraud
New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested five persons, including a former bank employee, for allegedly obtaining bank account details from victims fraudulently, police said on Tuesday, adding, some of the accused posed as bank officials and reportedly lured victims by offering them reward points. According to police, a complaint was received through the NCRP portal on June 20 from a resident of southwest Delhi's Palam Colony who alleged that he was duped of Rs 96,000 under the guise of bank reward points. An FIR was registered under Sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 3 (5) (common intention) of BNS at Cyber police station southwest district and a police team was formed to further investigate the case. A raid was conducted at Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar where accused —Atul Kumar, Sunny Kumar Singh and Kaushal Kumar—were apprehended. "During interrogation, it was revealed that Kaushal, who had previously worked with a bank, had allegedly assisted Atul in opening multiple bank accounts, arranged buyers for those accounts in exchange for commission and rented a premises for their operations. Sunny allegedly created the account and registered the documents of the firm they were operating," said a senior police officer. "It was further discovered that the accused allegedly gave access of the accounts to cyber criminals through a woman identified as Jyoti (32), who was also traced and arrested," added the senior police officer. The accused were arrested based on evidence obtained from Kaushal's mobile phones. Co-accused Mohammad Ahmad, who allegedly contacted victims and gathered their details, was also arrested. He was also wanted in a case under Section 318 (cheating) of BNS at Cyber police station north district dated April 3, police said.
