Man charged with murder after West End death
By
Police have charged a man with murder over the death of a 50-year-old West End resident, who was found with fatal injuries in his home at the weekend.
Police were called about 4.30am on Saturday to a Ryan Street apartment, where they found a 50-year-old man unresponsive with critical injuries.
The man was treated, but succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police arrested a 32-year-old Fortitude Valley Man last night — who they suspected was known to the residents of the West End property — and charged him with murder.
The 32-year-old was expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has won the Gold Logie for the most popular personality on television, a result that seemed practically ordained from the moment she walked the red carpet in a gold-hued gown. The big winner was the ABC, which won 11 awards – including an astonishing five on the trot for Fisk.
By the time Jess Whatman counted extended day care costs on top of petrol, tolls and lunches, she was forking out $400 a week just to get to work. Burnt out and increasingly frustrated at the office mandates, she began exploring a more sustainable career option closer to home.
Advertising on computer games and social media platforms such as TikTok has helped drive the biggest surge in Defence Force recruitment in 15 years, a major turnaround that the federal government says has put the military on track to achieve ambitious growth targets.
At least 90,000 pro-Palestine protesters walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge and into history through the pelting rain, as a larger crowd than expected used the landmark as a symbol, bringing the city to a standstill and leading police to sound the alarm of a potential crowd crush.
And the members of rock band Oasis were 'shocked and saddened' after a man fell to his death during a concert by the band at London's Wembley Stadium.

‘What's peaceful about that?': Melbourne protester slammed for burning Australian flag
Sky News host Steve Price has slammed masked Melbourne pro-Palestine protesters who set fire to the Australian flag. 'Melbourne … saw masked men setting fire to the Australian flag, not once, but twice,' Mr Price said. 'As for burning our flag, I know that that's not illegal. It should be, and I don't understand why it's not. And writing on the road about Australia is a blunt if not stupidly dumb thing to say … but then again, none of these protesters are very smart. 'What's peaceful about masked thugs setting fire to the Australian flag?'

Influencers arrested after posing in front of burning Russian plant
Two influencers have been arrested after posting a TikTok posing in front of a flaming Russian plant following a Ukrainian strike. A drone dramatically exploded the military-linked Rosneft-Kubannefteprodukt oil depot in Sochi. TikTokers Dasha Vladimirovna, 21, and Karina Evgenyevna, 19, were filmed rapping in front of the burning facility. They are captured in footage glorying in the Ukrainian strike which Putin's air defences failed to prevent. The video was posted to track Crimson Dawn by singer Endshpil, a Russian rapper. Dasha and Karina were also with a man - but it was unclear if he had been hauled to the police as well. A police-issued 'wanted' notice only specified the two women. 'During internet monitoring, a publication was found showing two girls filming a video against the backdrop of a fire in Sochi,' a police statement said before the influencers were identified. 'The police have initiated an investigation, measures are being taken to identify the girls, and their actions will be legally assessed.' Later it was confirmed the duo had been detained, and there were calls from pro-war outlets for them to issue a public apology over the stunt close to Sochi airport. Kremlin moral guardian Yekaterina Mizulina, 40, head of Russia's Safe internet League, said: 'Young people are filming content against the backdrop of drones flying into Sochi at night. 'I wonder what's wrong with the instinct for self-preservation? 'Don't they understand that this is simply dangerous?' But the real reason for their arrest is the potential glamorising of a Ukrainian strike in Russia's largest resort. Moscow takes an increasingly aggressive, extreme stance against social media stunts seen as highlighting Ukraine's successes in the war. Ukrainian official adviser Pravda Gerashchenko mocked: 'Russian zoomers are happy about the burning oil depot in Sochi - a new location for selfies. 'Ukrainian defence forces will definitely try to create as many such locations as possible.' The song 'conveys a search for direction, belonging and hope through music and the hip-hop community,' said one source. 'It reflects on life's struggles, yearning for freedom, and finding strength and identity through artistic expression.' Russian forces last night bombed a key bridge used to transport military logistics in the Ukrainian frontline city of Kherson. Footage shows a Russian air strike destroying the key road crossing on the Dnipro River after dropping two guided bombs. The attack damaged a bridge connecting the city to the Korabel neighbourhood. A few homes and a high-rise residential building were also damaged, officials said. A defiant Vladimir Putin has snubbed peace and is instead steadily increasing his overnight bombing raids - which could soon hit 1,000 a day. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin urged residents of the Korabel district to evacuate, citing complications with logistics and infrastructure. He wrote on Telegram: 'As a result of the enemy air strike, logistics have been complicated. 'Because of this, it will be difficult to deliver food and other things for the time being.' Kherson Oblast, which is just near the Russian-occupied Crimean region, is frequently targeted by the Russians. Kyiv sought revenge by launching a massive drone attack targeting Russia's main resort city of Sochi, where Putin is said to be rebuilding one of his palaces. More than 120 firefighters were trying to extinguish a blaze at an oil depot that was sparked by the drone attack, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said. A massive fuel tank with a capacity of 2,000 cubic metres was on fire, Russia's RIA news agency reported. Some 30 huge explosions led to a massive inferno at the facility close to the main airport often used by the Russian dictator.

‘Deplorable': Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan lashes masked protesters who burned Australian flag at Melbourne pro-Palestine rally
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has slammed the 'deplorable' actions of a group of protesters who burned the Australian flag during a pro-Palestine rally at the weekend. Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Melbourne in support of Palestine, calling for an end to the humanitarian crisis that has gripped the Gaza Strip for months. A planned crossing of the King St Bridge was stopped by police in riot gear – leading to confrontations and protesters splintering off and heading back to their starting point at the State Library. Extraordinary scenes emerged on the Spencer St bridge after some protesters stopped on the side of the road. Photos and footage at the scene capture the masked demonstrators burning the Australian flag and spray-painting 'Abolish Australia' on the road. Some broke out into chants of 'Death, death, death to the IDF' – referring to the Israeli Defence Force. Speaking on the Today show on Monday, Ms Allan condemned the incident. 'It's deplorable, it's a deplorable action' she told the program. Ms Allan reiterated the rest of the protest was 'peaceful' and there were no arrests. She said it was 'completely cowardly' to turn up to protests while masked, as it could 'only signal the intent'. Footage from Channel 9 captured the group disrupting traffic – one furious woman on her way to hospital getting out of her car to give them a spray. It is not clear whether the group are associated with the Palestine Action Group, which organised the protest along the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The group has been contacted for comment. Australia has no law that specifically criminalises the burning of the national flag. In NSW, historic scenes emerged on Sunday as almost 100,000 demonstrators peacefully marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge after attempts to block the protest failed in court. Protesters crossed the bridge about 2pm, chanting 'free, free Palestine' and waving placards. NSW Police were on scene to keep the peace after their attempt to stop the demonstration – on the grounds it would endanger public safety – failed. At 3pm, they issued an urgent request for protesters to stop the march on safety fears, citing a possible 'crush' at the northern end of the bridge. 'Participants have been asked to stop proceedings across the bridge to avoid a crowd crush at the northern end of the harbour bridge,' the police said in what they called a 'protest safety intervention'. 'Once the procession has come to a halt, protesters will be asked to turn around and walk back toward Wynyard to avoid a risk of injury due to the huge number of people taking part. 'Police believe the safest route back is to walk back across the bridge given the huge numbers to avoid overwhelming the public transport system and a potential crowd crush scenario.' The rally otherwise proceeded peacefully and without any significant incidents. Famous faces joined in the protest, including former NSW Labor titan and former foreign affairs minister Bob Carr, soccer icon Craig Foster and Julian Assange.
