'Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer': to Aadu 3': 3D Wave in Mollywood

Time of Indiaa day ago

Mollywood is embracing 3D technology, with filmmakers exploring its potential beyond fantasy genres. 'Aadu 3' is venturing into 3D, showcasing this shift. Jonita Doda highlights the immersive experience of India's first 3D romantic film, 'Salmon 3D,' while Tovino Thomas acknowledges the challenges of 3D filming, emphasizing that content remains paramount, regardless of the format.

Watching a movie in 3D is always an immersive experience, despite some critics. Coming to Mollywood, the industry seems to be shifting its gears to a new realm, and the most basic one would be 3D movies.
Let's take a look at the 3D wave happening in the Malayalam film industry.
'Aadu' venturing into 3D
Jayasurya and Midhun Manuel Thomas' hit series 'Aadu 3' is reportedly in 3D format. This shows how the Malayalam filmmakers are pushing the boundaries of 3D by not only limiting it to fantasy or fictional movies. Director Midhun Manuel Thomas surely would have seen the scope of storytelling via 3D, enhancing the theatrical experience; otherwise, a talented scriptwriter and filmmaker like him wouldn't be opting for such a format.

'It adds a new dimension to the cinematic experience' - Jonita Doda
In an exclusive conversation with the actress Jonita Doda, who has been part of India's first-ever romantic 3D film 'Salmon 3D' revealed that it adds a whole new theatrical experience.
Talking to ETimes, the 'Salmon 3D' actress said, 'The USP of our film lies in two key aspects. Firstly, it is India's first-ever romantic 3D stereoscopic film, which adds a whole new dimension to the cinematic experience.

'Shooting with 3D cameras is a very tough thing to do' - Tovino Thomas
Now let's move on to the production part of a 3D film. In a conversation with Mid Day, the 'ARM' actor Tovino Thomas said that shooting a movie in 3D is quite challenging. He said, 'Shooting with 3D cameras is a very tough thing to do.
It takes more time and effort.'
Coming to 'ARM', what the makers did was 3D conversion rather than shooting in 3D camera. He said, ''People won't be able to tell whether we shot it with 3D cameras or converted it later, because the technology has come so far. We already have clear guidelines on how to shoot for 3D conversion — there's a specific approach to follow, and our cinematographer was fully aware of that from the start.'
Do all films require 3D?
Well, the answer would be a clear NO! While 3D may enhance the theatre-viewing experience, not all stories are perfect that way. There may be several sequences added just for the sake of creating that 3D visual, and this would serve no purpose to the actual storyline.
For a movie like 'My Dear Kuttichathan', 3D experience is well worth it. But if one were to pick a 3D format for a film like 'Drishyam', it would be a complete no and would feel complete injustice towards the content of the movie, unless there are some genuine reasons for adding 3D elements (hopefully there won't be any).
Coming to the upcoming Jayasurya starrer 'Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer', it's quite sure that the 3D elements will work as everyone knows the storyline and how it can be perfectly suited for a 3D experience.
Shooting in 3D or not, as we always say, the content of a movie matters.

Actor Rishab Shetty escapes unhurt as boat capsizes during Kantara-1 shoot

A boat carrying actor Rishab Shetty and around 30 crew members capsized during the shoot of 'Kantara: Chapter 1' at the Mani reservoir in Karnataka's Shivamogga district, reported news agency PTI. The incident occurred in the shallow waters of Melina Koppa in the Masti Katte region, narrowly averting what could have been a major tragedy. All members onboard, including actor-director Shetty, escaped unhurt, the police said. However, filming equipment, including cameras, is believed to have been damaged or lost. The exact value of the loss is still being assessed, according to Thirthahalli police, who confirmed an investigation is underway. This incident comes just days after the death of actor-mimicry artist Kalabhavan Niju, 43, who suffered a heart attack in Bengaluru while shooting for the same film. According to a report by OnManorama, Niju complained of chest pain at the homestay arranged for artists and was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead. The Kerala-based actor had reportedly joined the film after an audition and was last seen in the Malayalam film 'Marco'. His death marks the third fatality linked to 'Kantara: Chapter 1' in the past month. In May, Kannada comedian Rakesh Poojary, 33, died of a cardiac arrest while attending a wedding. Around the same time, a 32-year-old junior artiste from Kerala, MF Kapil, drowned in the Souparnika river after being caught in a cross current. The Hombale Films production has endured a series of misfortunes since filming began. Last November, a minibus carrying 20 junior artistes met with an accident in Mudoor; though all escaped unhurt, it raised alarms over on-set safety. Earlier, a costly set constructed for the film was destroyed by heavy rains, further delaying the shoot. Kantara: Chapter 1 is a prequel to Shetty's critically acclaimed 2022 film Kantara. The new instalment is scheduled for release on 2 October 2025, with Rishab Shetty once again taking the lead role.

Makers of Reacher Season 4 announce cast; reveal changes made to character names

The makers of the upcoming season of Reacher have announced the details regarding its initial cast and crew. The makers of Reacher Season 4 have welcomed eight new actors to its cast. Reacher Season 4, which stars Alan Ritchson in the title role, is based on Gone Tomorrow, the thirteenth book in Lee Child's internationally acclaimed Jack Reacher novel series. The show's description reads, 'When a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a train goes horribly wrong, Jack Reacher is drawn into a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.' New cast members joining Ritchson for Reacher Season 4 include: Jay Baruchel as Jacob Merrick, Sydelle Noel as Tamara Green, Agnez Mo as Lila Hoth, Anggun as Amisha Hoth, Kevin Weisman as Russell Plum, Marc Blucas as John Samson, Kevin Corrigan as Detective Docherty, and Kathleen Robertson as Elsbeth Samson. Baruchel will play Jacob Merrick, a small-town policeman. Noel will play Tamara Green, a detective with the Philadelphia Police Department. Mo will portray Lila Hoth, a young Indonesian woman who, along with her mother Amisha Hoth (Anggun), comes to Philadelphia to track down Lila's American biological father. Corrigan will play Detective Docherty, Tamara's partner. Weisman will portray Russell Plum, a freelance journalist in Washington DC who has been surveilling a suspected CIA black site. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Blucas will play John Samson, a U.S. Congressman, while Robertson will play his wife, Elsbeth Samson. Reacher fans familiar with Gone Tomorrow may notice that the OTT series has tweaked some of the character names from the novel, with Merrick replacing Mark, Tamara swapping in for Theresa, Elspeth trading out the 'p' for a 'b' to become Elsbeth, and Svetlana becoming Amisha. The only major characters from Gone Tomorrow who remain to be cast for Season 4 are Susan Mark (likely Susan Merrick in the series) and Mr Springfield. The streaming platform handed Reacher an early Season 4 renewal back in October 2024, four months before the third season premiered on the platform. It went on to become the biggest returning series in the streaming platform's history. The first three seasons of 'Reacher' are now streaming on OTT. A release window for Season 4 has not yet been announced.

The quirks and perks of girl dads and boy dads

There's no handbook for fatherhood — just heart, chaos, and the unique joys of raising boys and girls. Girl dads braid hair and wear glitter. Boy dads learn football tricks and negotiate over toys. While the world expects stoicism, these dads embrace softness and emotion. Whether through cuddles, puzzles, or bedtime stories, they're not just raising kids – they're raising humans — kind, curious, and full of heart. Pic: Anindya Saha Soham, Ayaansh & Adhyansh Sohom Chakraborty said: 'My boys only ask for my time. Don and Dontu have their rituals — bhaanrer chaa, football tricks, and their nightly 9pm calls when I'm away for work. All I ask of them is to be kind, hardworking, and grounded. They're emotional kids, and I love that.' Pic: Rahul and Sohoj Rahul & Shohoj Rahul Banerjee says Shohoj and him bond over everything from Satyajit Ray to Harry said: 'Our relationship is a two-way street—we give and take knowledge equally.' A few years ago, Shohoj had asked him, 'Baba, my friends are scared of their dads, but I'm not scared of you! Eta ki thik hocche?' To this, Rahul said, 'I've never told my son to 'man up'.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Arjun & Avantika Arjun Chakrabarty says: 'My princess looks forward to me being home—because to her, Baba means cuddles, laughter and a partner in all things naughty.
