Zahid: Infighting cost Umno dearly, let's not repeat it in GE16

RAUB: Umno must learn from the mistakes of the last two general elections if it wants to reemerge as a dominant party in the 16th general election (GE16), said party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid, alluding to internal strife that weakened the party's performance previously, said Umno's poor showing in the 14th and 15th general elections was a test from God—and GE16 must be a turning point.
"God has tested us twice, and we do not want a third test in GE16.
"We must not repeat the same mistakes. Instead, we should learn from the past, rectify the situation, and resolve Barisan Nasional's (BN) and Umno's internal issues.
"Twice is enough," he said, referring to the coalition's disappointing results in recent elections.
Zahid noted that BN secured only 30 parliamentary seats in GE15.
"Whenever I attend Umno delegates' meetings, I take the opportunity to assess our strengths and weaknesses, and to listen to the grassroots... to understand how we can regain dominance in GE16," he said when opening the Raub Umno division delegates' meeting at the Raub Silver Jubilee Hall today.
He said internal conflict and disunity had played a significant role in the party's decline.
"There were too many enemies within—duri dalam daging (thorns in the flesh)—and some even shot themselves in the foot.
"We must avoid this if Umno wants to return to its winning ways.
"Umno must remain united and resilient. Only then can we strategise and move forward.
"Our leaders must serve with sincerity and integrity—these positions are a trust, not a reward."
Zahid also urged Umno leaders to move on from the past, set aside internal disputes, and focus on the party's core mission to secure victory in GE16.
BN, which governed Malaysia for nearly six decades, lost its grip on power in the last two general elections. In GE15, it recorded its worst-ever performance, winning only 30 parliamentary seats.
Also present were Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who is also Pahang Umno liaison chief, and Raub Umno division chief Datuk Abd Aziz Mat Kiram.
On a separate matter, Zahid—who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister—said the expansion of the Madani Rahmah Sales initiative announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would benefit more people, especially in rural and densely populated areas.
"The introduction of new locations and a wider variety of products will give consumers more choices at affordable prices.
"We hope the target groups will take advantage of this opportunity to purchase essential goods.

13MP places Sabah's priorities in national plan: Bung

Published on: Saturday, August 02, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 02, 2025 By: Abbey Junior Text Size: Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a clear recognition of Sabah's role as a driver of rural transformation and sustainable economic growth. The Kinabatangan MP said 13MP is not just a development roadmap but a strategic shift that places Sabah's priorities at the core of national planning, especially through investments in agriculture, fisheries and agro-based industries. '13MP not only reflects the intent to develop regional infrastructure and the economy, but also strengthens the principles of social justice and long-term rural economic resilience,' he said. He pointed to the RM227 billion allocation for the economic sector, including the creation of an integrated fisheries hub and blue economy in Sabah, as a decisive step towards building a stronger local food supply chain. He added that the plan's focus on modernising agriculture through automation and smart technologies would bring a significant impact to rural communities across the State. Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'The emphasis on developing the rural workforce through TVET and targeted financing under the TVET Madani programme will shape a new generation of young agropreneurs and local technocrats, in line with 13MP's aspiration to create 1.2 million job opportunities by 2030, including in the digital economy and smart agriculture,' he said. He stressed that Sabah should not be viewed merely as a recipient of federal development, but as a catalyst for national progress. 'I urge the Sabah Government to proactively align the State's strategy with RMK13 in a substantive manner so that the opportunities presented can be fully maximised by the people of Sabah,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Should DAP now apologise to Zahid for accusing him of graft ala its apology to Beng Hock's family?

WELL, such is the afterthought expressed by some seemingly Pakatan Harapan (PH) backers after close to 30 DAP MPs visited the UMNO headquarters at Menara Dato Onn earlier this week in what Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin described as a historic first for both parties. For context, the visit was part of a special briefing and engagement session between Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also the National TVET Council chairman with DAP MPs to discuss implementation of the National TVET Policy. 'So DAP now openly admit they were wrong to accuse Zahid and UMNO for corruption?' wondered a presumably stunned DAP supporter. This observation prompted another commenter to a post on the deemed 'historical event' by Free Malaysia Today (FMT) on X to recount those days when now Bentong MP and DAP central executive committee (CEC) member Young Syefura Othman a.k.a. Rara had wanted 'to dump Zahid (who is also the UMNO president) in jail'. Nearly 30 DAP MPs visit Umno HQ, hosted by Zahid #FMTNews #FMTEng — Free Malaysia Today (@fmtoday) August 1, 2025 One commenter went on to warn DAP which has seemingly been successful in burying its hatchet with UMNO that the latter 'will give a hard kick once they feel they are sufficiently strong again'. 'UMNO would have been buried if not for the unity government,' he further remarked while another simply described the current state of DAP as an equivalent of blinded-by-money 'Eunuch 2.0' Another possibly disgruntled UMNO grassroot member rightly pointed out that not only had DAP compromised its stance to keep the unity government spirit alive but so did the UMNO president who went back on his word of 'No DAP, No Anwar'. Well, proponents of Madani government tended to describe this 'historical visit' as a sign of 'matured politics' with even @grok – the so-called Elon Musk's AI-powered chatbot – hailing the landmark event as 's historic step beyond old rivalries for national progress'. At the end of the day, this commenter summed up best – 'I can't imagine what Karpal Singh (the late former DAP chairman who went by the moniker Tiger of Jelutong) would say'. – Aug 2, 2025

Give addendum same respect as unity govt order, says Najib's son

Nizar Najib said failure to implement the royal order could damage public trust in the government and respect for royal directives. KUALA LUMPUR : The government has been urged by Nizar Najib, son of former prime minister Najib Razak, to accord the same respect and urgency to a royal order on his father's house arrest request as it did to the call that led to the formation of the unity government. 'This issue (of the addendum) has been going on forever. How much longer are we going to drag this out when the decree already exists?' he said at a press conference here today. Nizar, who is Najib's eldest son, said failure to carry out the order could damage public trust and respect for royal directives. 'It's the same as when we honoured the royal decree to form the unity government. No one questioned it and, in fact, everyone supported it. So what's the difference between the decree to form the unity government and the one to implement the addendum?' he said. Last week, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government will follow-up on the royal order as soon as possible following legal procedures 'but it depends heavily on the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which we must all respect'. The addendum was made to a Pardons Board decision to reduce Najib's sentence of a jail term and fine, and purportedly orders Najib's jail sentence to be served under house arrest. Najib had been convicted of corruption and abuse of power in the SRC International case. The Federal Court was told on July 9 that Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar had on July 2 acknowledged the existence of the addendum but was disputing whether it was genuine or valid. At the press conference, Rosmadi Ismail, chairman of the NKB1Msia Club, called on the prime minister to take full responsibility in ensuring the addendum is implemented. He said Najib deserved fair and just treatment under the law as a statesman who had contributed significantly to national development.
