Man charged with almost fifty offences after 7-hour car chase in Point Cook, Melbourne

A man who was arrested after a prolonged high-speed chase through the Melbourne suburbs has been slapped with a hefty charge sheet featuring allegations of dozens of offences.
Victoria Police released the charge sheet for a 36-year-old man who they allege stole a van on Melbourne's St Kilda Road at around 5:40am on Friday July 11.
The subsequent police chase took the van and pursuing vehicles through Footscray, Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Spotswood, Carnegie, Sunshine, Dandenong and Point Cook as news helicopters captured the wild scenes on camera.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Police said police would allege in court that 'the van was involved in collisions with several parked and moving vehicles, while being driven erratically and at high speed'.
'Luckily, there were no serious injuries. After crashing into a street sign at the intersection of Dunnings Road and Palmers Road in Point Cook, the van came to a stop just after 1pm,' she said.
Footage of the dramatic arrest showed the man bail out of the damaged van's window onto a busy road as the vehicle continued to roll forward.
The man stepped directly into the path of a pursuing police vehicle, before it strikes him and he is thrown into the air.
Multiple officers then leapt out of the police car and arrested the man as he tried to get up.

Hospital toilet spying investigation expanded to further sites

The investigation into a young doctor accused of filming hospital colleagues in a toilet in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs has expanded to additional hospitals in Melbourne and regional Victoria. A Victoria Police spokesperson told The Age that several hospitals had been identified as 'workplaces of interest' after Ryan Cho, who most recently worked at the Austin Hospital, was last week arrested and charged with stalking and use of an optical surveillance device. 'The 27-year-old worked at these hospitals located in Melbourne's CBD and regional Victoria between 2020 and 2025,' the police spokesperson said. 'Police are in the process of contacting the additional hospitals and those potentially impacted during the time of the man's employment.' Staff at the Austin uncovered a mobile phone allegedly recording them on Thursday, July 3. The Age revealed this week that staff at the Royal Melbourne Hospital had since been informed that Cho was employed at the CBD-adjacent Parkville site between February 2024 and February 2025. The Age has seen signage at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, placed on entrances and exits to these facilities this year that says: 'Please do not leave your belongings in here. Please use your staff lockers.' A Royal Melbourne spokesperson said the hospital had been in contact with Victoria Police and would support their investigation as required. 'The RMH takes the wellbeing and safety of our staff very seriously. As this is now a police matter, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.'

A woman has been charged after a house fire critically injured two young girls

A woman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a suspicious house fire in Melbourne's southeast that left two young girls critically injured. Detectives from Victoria Police's Arson and Explosives Squad arrested a 37-year-old Chadstone woman on Thursday morning in connection with the May 21 blaze that tore through a two-storey townhouse on Terrigal Street. Emergency services were called to the property just before 9.40pm after reports of smoke and flames pouring from the building. Fire crews forced their way into the home, rescuing the woman and two girls, aged seven and eight at the time, from the first floor of the home. All three were rushed to hospital in critical condition. A 36-year-old man, also a resident, was not home at the time of the incident. The woman, who had been recovering in hospital, was formally charged on Thursday and remanded in custody. She is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
