Has Jaguars top running back option already emerged in training camp?
Has a top running back option for the Jaguars already emerged in the early training camp practices? One of the more intriguing training camp battles taking place for the Jacksonville Jaguars is at the running back position. Specifically, how the playing time amongst those backs will end up shaking out. While we are only three training camp practices into this, perhaps a favorite for that RB1 role has already emerged. Following Friday's practice, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI would write in this training camp recap article that it was the "Tank Bigsby show." Travis Holmes of Big Cat Country would make the same observation in his practice recap, saying that Bigsby took "the majority of the backfield reps." I don't think this comes as a huge surprise to anyone. Bigsby led the team in carries and rushing yards last season. Among all running backs, Bigsby's 4.6 yards per carry ranked 13th, and he was 13th in missed tackles forced, along with being 11th in PFF's breakaway rate, which measures how often a back had a rush of 15 or more yards. With Bigsby's ability to shed tackles and generate explosive runs, a new metric that evaluates running back play--Chris Trapasso's ATEX score--says that Bigsby could be in store for a big season. Looking at how the Tampa Bay offense operated last season under Liam Coen, the top two backs on the Jaguars' depth chart will see their share of opportunities. Success on the ground is a must in this system. For one, it keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations. But in addition to that, the run game and passing game concepts go hand-in-hand in Coen's scheme, building off each other as the game--and even weeks--progress.

NFL Top 100: Jaguars WR Brian Thomas is No. 61, plays Cardinals in Week 12
Jacksonville's Brian Thomas Jr. had the rookie season that people wanted Marvin Harrison Jr. to have. This week, the NFL had its fourth week of revealing players in the "NFL Top 100." This week was about revealed Nos. 61-70. Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride came in at No. 65. On Friday, two Cardinals opponents for 2025 rounded out the week. Coming at No. 61 was Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas, who was a rookie last season. In his rookie campaign, he had the season Cardinals fans hoped that Marvin Harrison Jr. would have had. He had 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl and was fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He was the fourth rookie since the NFL-AFL merger to have at least 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. Fellow 2024 rookie receiver Malik Nabers of the New York Giants, Thomas' college teammate at LSU, called him "a freak of nature." Teammate Travon Walker, a defensive end, said Thomas is "a good route runner" with "exceptional speed." The Cardinals will have to find a way to slow Thomas in 2025. The Jaguars come to State Farm Stadium in Week 12. He isn't the only Jaguars player in the top 100, as defensive end Josh Hines-Allen made the list just behind Thomas at No. 63. Reports: WR DJ Chark to sign with Falcons
Free agent wide receiver DJ Chark will reportedly sign with Atlanta after visiting the Falcons on Friday, according to multiple reports. The move comes a week after Chark visited with the Chicago Bears. Chark spent the past three seasons with three different teams after playing his first four campaigns in Jacksonville. He was a second-round pick by the Jaguars in 2018 and made the Pro Bowl with a 1,008-yard season in 2019. Chark caught just four passes for 31 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. As NFL teams reported for training camp last week, Chark said he was still weighing his options. "It depends," he said, per NFL Network. "It will have to be something that makes sense, from a family perspective and also from an X's and O's perspective. Getting up and going to any team just for the excitement -- I'll always love the game, but at this point, putting myself and my family in a great position is what's ideal for me."
