Fahmi mourns passing of composer Ross Ariffin in Kuala Lumpur
The 63-year-old passed away at 5.30 pm yesterday at Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheras, where he had been residing since November last year.
Fahmi shared his condolences in a heartfelt Facebook post, describing Ross as a resilient figure who made significant contributions to Malaysia's music industry.
'Uncle Ross was a composer who contributed greatly to the local music scene,' he wrote.
The minister also recalled meeting the late artist multiple times, noting his strength in overcoming life's challenges.
Ross Ariffin composed songs for several top Malaysian artists, including Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Ning Baizura, Jaclyn Victor, and Fauziah Latiff.
His struggles had earlier drawn Fahmi's attention, leading the minister to assist him in securing housing under the People's Housing Project (PPR).

The clip was filmed at a futsal court, though the exact location was not disclosed. The two groups were divided into trios, with 2 KIIRAS members paired with 1 DOLLA member in each group. Luckily for fans, the two groups didn't just do 1 but 2 dance challenges, with DOLLA taking part in KIIRAS' 'ZILLER' dance challenge with the members. Fans were delighted by the collaboration, as it also helped shine a spotlight on more Malaysian talent on the global stage. While many were excited to see the two girl groups teaming up, Ling Ling also took part in a special collaboration of her own. On the same day, KIIRAS shared a video on their official Instagram account of their leader taking on the 'KILL MA BO$$' dance challenge with her sunbaenim, Isaac Voo (邬凯名/아이젝), a fellow Malaysian and K-pop idol from the boy group SKYE. Fun fact: Both Isaac and Ling Ling are known as the first male and female Malaysian K-pop idols, respectively. With Ling Ling leading KIIRAS, fans are hopeful for future musical collaborations with DOLLA, SKYE, or other Malaysian artists. Stefanus wins RM50,000 grant for school

He was awarded the RISE Educator Award 2025, earning RM5, 000 personally and securing RM50, 000 in funding for his school. Advertisement The award, organised by Taylor's College, celebrates educators making exceptional impact in Malaysian classrooms. Working with visually and hearing-impaired students, Stefanus has revolutionised music education by establishing a specialised music room and forming a student boy band despite limited resources. His innovative approach gives students with disabilities a platform to express themselves and build confidence through music. 'To many, music may seem like a luxury but to my students, it is a lifeline,' said Stefanus. The competition drew over 1,000 nominations nationwide and attracted more than 65,000 public votes. Five finalists were selected through a combination of public voting and evaluation by a distinguished panel including officials from the Ministry of Education. Stefanus plans to use the funding to create Sabah's first student ensemble combining traditional and modern instruments, and to build a dedicated music space for deaf learners. School headmaster Muhammad Hamka Eallie praised Stefanus's work, saying he has transformed how the school views learning and inclusion. 'He does not see their disabilities but rather he sees their potential,' said Hamka. The award ceremony was graced by Deputy Educational Resources and Technology Division Director Fadzliaton Zainudin at the Ministry of Education Malaysia, who delivered a keynote address to commemorate the occasion. 'Taylor's College has consistently championed quality education by recognising and supporting the incredible efforts of educators on the ground. 'The RISE Educator Award highlights how real change often starts with small, consistent acts of care and dedication,' she said. She said Ministry of Education commends Taylor's College for establishing a platform that goes beyond recognising outstanding educators but one that also fosters collaboration, inspires innovation and encourages the exchange of impactful practices that uplift our schools and communities. Meanwhile, Taylor's College Campus Director Josephine Tan said that over the past five years, the RISE Educator Award has revealed the remarkable resilience and creativity of teachers who quietly transform the meaning of education. 'These educators do not wait for ideal conditions, they create opportunities with what they have. What drives them is not just innovation, but deep purpose and belief in their students. Many even fund their own projects, expecting little recognition in return,' she said. In fact, early last year, the 34-year-old mother of two took a bold step forward by pursuing a Diploma in Business Management at INTI International College. For the 'Magika' fantasy film heroine, the decision to continue her studies was not due to pressure from anyone, but rather came from the awareness that learning is a lifelong journey, regardless of age or career status. "I think every day I try to make sure I get through all my routine (tasks), even little by little. For example, even when I'm busy, I'll still revise, study and make sure to finish my homework,' she said. Diana said her decision to further her education has received a positive response from fans. Some even came forward to express their admiration and said they were inspired by her determination. "Many people came up to me and said they found it interesting (that I was continuing my studies). Some said there was no need to continue studying, while others encouraged me to go for it. "To me, people have different views on the idea of furthering one's education.
