(Video) DOLLA & KIIRAS Team Up For 'MWA' & 'ZILLER' Dance Challenges

Hype Malaysia2 days ago
Newly debuted K-pop girl group KIIRAS (키라스) received a warm welcome during their first visit to Malaysia. The trip also marked a special homecoming for leader Ling Ling (링링/黃羚棱), who hails from Klang. In addition to performing at their first international showcase during 'The Music Journey 2 Roadshow', the group took part in several activities, including meeting fashion designer Peony Sin Hui Wen (萧惠玟) and filming a dance challenge in front of their billboard in Bukit Bintang.
Speaking of dance challenges, the girls also delighted fans by performing DOLLA's 'MWA' challenge during a recent stage appearance. So, it was only natural for them to do it again, this time with the artists themselves while they were still in town. Watch the collaboration below:
Yesterday (Wednesday, 6th August), DOLLA and KIIRAS shared a video on Instagram of themselves doing the former's 'MWA' dance challenge. The clip was filmed at a futsal court, though the exact location was not disclosed. The two groups were divided into trios, with 2 KIIRAS members paired with 1 DOLLA member in each group.
Luckily for fans, the two groups didn't just do 1 but 2 dance challenges, with DOLLA taking part in KIIRAS' 'ZILLER' dance challenge with the members. Fans were delighted by the collaboration, as it also helped shine a spotlight on more Malaysian talent on the global stage. While many were excited to see the two girl groups teaming up, Ling Ling also took part in a special collaboration of her own.
On the same day, KIIRAS shared a video on their official Instagram account of their leader taking on the 'KILL MA BO$$' dance challenge with her sunbaenim, Isaac Voo (邬凯名/아이젝), a fellow Malaysian and K-pop idol from the boy group SKYE. Fun fact: Both Isaac and Ling Ling are known as the first male and female Malaysian K-pop idols, respectively.
With Ling Ling leading KIIRAS, fans are hopeful for future musical collaborations with DOLLA, SKYE, or other Malaysian artists. There's no doubt that such projects have the potential to break records and make history.

#SHOWBIZ: Misha Omar scores a first with 'Break'

MISHA Omar at 43 proves she's still at the top of her game with her new single 'Break'. Recently released under Sony Music Entertainment, the song marks Misha's first-ever cross-border collaboration with Indonesian music legend Melly Goeslaw. Written entirely by Melly and produced by Tohpati, 'Break' is a soul-stirring anthem wrapped in raw emotions. It also serves as the official soundtrack for the drama series 'Mandul Bukan Pilihan'. A MESSAGE, A MILESTONE The song began with a message, literally. Misha sent Melly a DM on Instagram. "I gathered my courage and messaged her," says Misha. "I told her I wanted a song written by her. To my surprise and joy, she agreed and composed 'Break' just for me." For Melly, the feeling was mutual. "I've been a fan for such a long time. She simply has an amazing voice. I've always been in awe of Misha." Though the song was recorded in Jakarta, the two had never actually met prior to the private media listening party hosted by Misha recently at Courtyard by Marriott KL South. BACK TO SCHOOL (SORT OF) The intimate event felt more like a reunion with old friends than a press launch. Misha, elegant yet irreverently witty, cracked jokes and charmed the room like she was hosting a long-overdue catch-up. "I've been doing this for two decades," she said with a grin. "I wouldn't have made it this far without media friends. Thank you for still writing about me, still listening." Then came the surprise: Melly appeared. The crowd erupted as the two divas embraced for the first time in person. They later took the stage together, with Misha performing 'Break' live. "When I was writing this song, it sounded ordinary," Melly said. "But when I heard Misha's vocals, it became extraordinary. She gave it soul." PREPARATION WITH PURPOSE Despite her decades of experience and three 'Anugerah Juara Lagu' Best Vocal wins, Misha still treats every project like the first. Before recording 'Break', she returned to vocal classes with her long-time coach, Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, who was at the event as well. "Every time I start something new, I go back to class," she says. "We dissect the lyrics, line by line, to really feel the emotions behind the words." While the title may hint at pause or heartbreak, for Misha, 'Break' means reclaiming space. "It's not about stopping," she says. "It's about giving myself permission to create something meaningful again." And 'Break' delivers just that: an elegant heartbreak ballad that feels timeless, universal and entirely her own. It's also a celebration of regional creativity, bridging the musical worlds of Malaysia and Indonesia. "This isn't about replacing local composers," she clarifies. "It's about exploring, pushing boundaries and celebrating the richness of Nusantara music." WHAT'S NEXT? With 'Break' already streaming on all major platforms, Misha is warming up for her next big move. Her solo concert, 'DiA MISHA OMAR' on Nov 29 at Mega Star Arena, promises to be another milestone in her illustrious career. Tickets, priced from RM288 to RM1,200, have been on sale since July 25. Between now and then? Maybe another collaboration. Maybe more ballads. But one thing's for sure, Misha's not slowing down. "As long as I have something honest to say, I'll keep singing," she says. "Each new song should feel like the start of something." So, if 'Break' feels like a beginning, it's because it is. Misha hopes this collaboration builds bridges through melody and acknowledging the interconnected nature of Southeast Asian creativity. 'Break' is available across all major streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music.

MTHQA 2025 sees improved performances with stricter screening

KUALA LUMPUR: The 65th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) has recorded a notable improvement in participant performances this year. Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee attributed this to stricter preliminary screening. He stated that this approach ensures only highly qualified participants progress to the competition stage. 'The recitation in terms of melody and tajwid meets the expectations of the judges and is not like before, where some participants were somewhat excessive,' he said. Sirajuddin, who chairs the panel of judges, highlighted the strong mastery displayed by memorisation participants. 'For memorisation, there's nothing you can't answer. He gave a quote from the verse, and continued... the majority, you could say 99 per cent of the memorisation participants were able to answer,' he explained. Malaysian reciter Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi shared her aspirations if she wins the competition. 'If I'm lucky enough to win, Insya-Allah, I want to continue my efforts to teach young people,' she said. Other participants include Mohamad Habil Walizada from Afghanistan and Kaiyrbay Dauken from Kazakhstan. The event is broadcast live on RTM's TV1 and JAKIM's official social media channels at 8.15 pm. Held under the theme 'Membangun Ummah MADANI,' the assembly runs from Aug 2 to 9. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will attend the closing ceremony tomorrow at 8 pm. - Bernama
