It's been a baptism of fire for the Australian Greens leader, Larissa Waters, who has begun her first parliamentary session in the top job with an internal crisis over the expulsion of co-founder Drew Hutton.
When asked last night on ABC's 7.30 about the exact reasons for Hutton's defenestration from the party, Waters said that she had not read the relevant documentation and that it had been dealt with 'by the party'.

Nursery ‘paedo', 26, who ‘gave child STD' prompted cops to advise 2,000 kids to get tested ‘after campaign of abuse'
A CHILD from a daycare centre where an alleged paedo is accused of carrying out dozens of sex attacks has reportedly contracted an STD. Joshua Dale Brown, 26, has been charged with raping and abusing eight children aged from five months to two years old in a horror case that has rocked Australia. 2 The child educator worked across 23 daycare centres in Victoria, sparking fears that he spread sexually transmitted diseases to the young children. The parents of some 2,000 children have been urged by state authorities to test their kids for infections in the wake of his arrest. Sources told Daily Mail Australia one child who attended one of the Melbourne daycare centres where Brown was employed has now tested positive for gonorrhoea. While the Victorian government denied the claim, the Department of Health refused to reject the report. A spokesman said: "Test results we've received to date as part of this investigation reaffirm that the risk is low." Tests are ongoing after the mass panic sparked by Brown's arrest on July 1. Cops did not reveal if Brown himself had tested positive for an STI but said the manner of the alleged abuse means children should get checked. The alleged attacker worked at 23 centres over eight years from January 2017 to May 2025. Police say he carried out the abuse on eight children between April 2022 and January 2023. He is expected to be hit with further charges beyond the 73 he currently faces for sexually penetrating children, sexual activity in the presence of a child and contaminating food. 2 He has also been charged with producing and transmitting child abuse material, and sexually touching a child under 16. Brown appeared in court yesterday and will return in February after the magistrate approved a police request for an extension. Horrified parents have questioned how Brown passed screening to work with children. While he had a valid Working with Children Check, he was allegedly reported to state authorities two years ago for his behaviour, though it was unrelated to sexual misconduct. In response, childcare operator G8 Education said they would accelerate the rollout of security cameras across 400 centres. Brown was arrested after cops started investigating another man, Michael Simon Wilson, for the alleged rape of a teenage boy in a nearby area. Detectives examining Wilson's devices found material linking him to Brown and the two men are known to each other, sources told ABC. Wilson has been hit with 45 charges including rape, bestiality and possessing child abuse material. The pair are yet to enter a plea and it is unclear how they know each other. However they have appeared together in a photo shared online by Brown's partner. Brown has employed top barrister Rishi Nathwani KC to his defence, who is trying to have his client's charge sheets withheld from the media. But Magistrate Donna Bakos told him they are already a matter of public record. Cops say the majority of Brown's offences took place at the Creative Gardens Early Learning Centre in Point Cook.

NRL grand final hero faces long ban for alleged heated incident with a referee during a footy match
An NRL Grand Final hero has landed in hot water after he allegedly swore at a referee during a footy match. Andrew Fifita was playing for De La Salle during a clash against the Gymea Gorillas last weekend when the incident took place. Fifita made 213 appearances for Cronulla Sharks and was a part of the team that won their maiden premiership title in 2016, notably scoring a try that led to the game-winning conversion. According to The Daily Telegraph, the 36-year-old is alleged to have called a referee a '****' during the first half of the match. He is now facing a five-match suspension over the matter, having been slapped with a Grade Two offensive language charge. 'He has pleaded not guilty and will face a judiciary hearing tomorrow night,' an NSWRL spokesperson said. Fifita, pictured with his wife Nikitia, denied that he had directed the comment toward the referee 'The NSWRL will make no further comment until the judicial matter is complete.' It also now means that Cronulla will be under the spotlight to sack the former footy star, should he be found guilty, who is the coach of their Tarsha Gale women's junior representative side. The prop forward is also employed by the Sharks as part of its culture and welfare team. 'It's an awkward situation because of his profile and the coaching position,' sources close to the club said to Nine's Wide World of Sports. Cronulla executive Dino Mezzatesta revealed that he has spoken with Fifita about the incident, with the forward insisting that he had not made the alleged comment towards the referee. 'Andrew was sent off for swearing, but he has advised the club he didn't direct it at the referee it was directed at an opposing player, who has also confirmed that the comment was directed at him,' Mezzatesta said. 'He has also acknowledged that the language was inappropriate all the same. 'Andrew is waiting for a date from NSWRL for his hearing, where he will be contesting the charge. 'The Cronulla Sharks will wait for this process to be completed.' It's not the first time that the footy player has found himself in front of a rugby league tribunal after he and his brother, David, were once stood down from playing junior rugby league games in Penrith for 12 months. Fifita had been accused of physically threatening a referee, following a match between Penrith Juniors and St Patricks in 2015. His brother, David, was also accused of swearing at the referee, telling the official 'you're a f***ing disgrace mate.'

Michael Clarke proves he's still a heavy hitter in the cricket world as he holidays with one of the most powerful men in the sport
Michael Clarke 's recent holiday snaps show that he is still a heavy hitter in the cricket world, with the former Aussie star mixing with one of the most powerful men in the sport. The 44-year-old, who was born in Liverpool, New South Wales, is well known as being one of Australia 's greatest-ever batsmen, ranking sixth on the list of the country's all-time top run-scorers. He rose to stardom, ranking as the No 1 Test batsman in the world at one stage of his career, doing so after overcoming the adversity of a back injury, which plagued the former Australia captain during the later stages of his career. During his glittering 12-year international cricket career, the Aussie would go on to score 8,643 runs across 115 Test matches for Australia, amassing a jaw-dropping 978 fours during that time. He'd also go on to score 13,826 First Class runs for New South Wales. He'd retire from Test cricket in 2015 following a glittering career, but is still mixing with some big names from the sport. In fact, pictures from his most recent vacation to Sardinia with his girlfriend, Arabella Sherborne, show the former cricketer spending some time with Lalit Modi, the former chairperson and founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Modi has also served as the President of the Rajasthan Cricket Association and was appointed the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) between 2005 and 2010. Back in 2013, Modi was banned by the BCCI for 'indiscipline and misconduct'. He denies any wrongdoing in relation to the ban. In March, the Prime Minister of Vanuatu ordered the cancellation of the passport of the Indian businessman Modi. Despite that, he is understood to now live in the United Kingdom, and still wields some influence within the sport. During his vacation, Clarke was sitting down for dinner with his girlfriend, Sherbourne, as well as Modi and Rima Bouri. Clarke also published a photograph of himself and the former cricket executive, presenting Modi with one of his Australia jerseys that had been signed by several other members of the team. In another picture, the pair were seen enjoying what appeared to be a deep conversation by a pool in Sardinia. It appears he may publish some parts of their conversation on his Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, after the former Aussie Test skipper tagged the podcast in the image. Clarke and Sherborne celebrated their one-year anniversary in May, and now the cricketer has appointed her as his executive assistant During his Sardinia getaway, Clarke was also pictured filming with journalist Piers Morgan for the podcast. Morgan is known to be a big cricket fanatic. It comes after a sad detail was revealed that suggested that some of Clarke's former team-mates have cut him out of their lives. During a podcast, Phil Rothfield and Andrew Webster had revealed that the cricketer's former team-mates have very little to do with Clarke. The revelation stemmed from a confrontation he had in the dressing room with Simon Katich during Australia's 2009 Test series against South Africa. During a match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which was also Matthew Hayden's final appearance in the Baggy Green cap. Clarke had lashed out at delays of the performance of team's song, Under the Southern Cross I Stand. He had been looking to rush off to fulfil plans away from the team. Katich was unimpressed by his actions, allegedly grabbing the batter by the throat as the confrontation escalated.
