Man electrocuted to death after high-voltage power line hits procession during temple fest near Cuddalore
CUDDALORE: A man was electrocuted and four others, including a six-year-old boy, sustained injuries after a palanquin carrying a decorated idol came into contact with a high-voltage power line during a temple festival at Chinna Irusampalayam village near Cuddalore on Friday night.
According to police from the Reddichavady Police Station, the Sedal festival of the Mariamman temple had been under way in the village for the past week. On Friday night, a decorated idol was mounted on a palanquin and carried through the streets by four devotees.
The mishap occurred when the palanquin touched a low-hanging high-tension electric wire. All four carriers and a nearby child received electric shocks.
The deceased has been identified as K Karnachandran (40), a native of Manaveli near Ariyankuppam in Puducherry, who died on the spot. The injured — S Sivamani (22), H Kannan (55), P Murugaiyan (35), and M Srivesh (6) — all from Chinna Irusampalayam, are undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital in Puducherry.
Police said Karnachandran had been residing at his in-laws' house in the village with his wife K Uma and son K Ragavan for the past two years.
An investigation is underway.

Vadakadu caste violence: HC summons Pudukottai collector, SP, IG
Madurai: Madras high court on Wednesday directed the Pudukottai district collector , inspector general of police (central zone), and Pudukottai superintendent of police (SP) to appear before the court in connection with the Vadakadu caste violence case. This directive came after a counsel mentioned a plea seeking compensation for the people belonging to the scheduled caste community , whose houses and properties were damaged during the recent caste violence incident in Vadakadu.A division bench of justice P Velmurugan and justice K K Ramakrishnan posted the case on May 15, petitioner, S Shanmugam, stated that there was a clash between the people belonging to the scheduled caste community and those belonging to a most backward class (MBC) community in Vadakadu on May 5. He stated that the people belonging to the MBC damaged the houses and properties of the scheduled caste the petitioner sought a direction to the authorities to ensure that the scheduled caste people were allowed to enter and worship at the Mariamman temple in Vadakadu. He requested a direction to the Pudukottai SP to conduct a detailed inquiry to identify the people who damaged the houses of the scheduled caste community. He also sought a direction to the authorities to provide adequate compensation to the victims belonging to the scheduled caste.

Couple found dead in well in Erode
A couple was found dead in a well near Sathyamangalam on Thursday. According to the police, Sakthivel (23), a construction worker from Pudhukothukadu near Sathyamangalam, married Priyadarshini (19) of Chinnakaradu in Indiyampalayam seven months ago. The couple was living at his residence. On Wednesday night, they went to Priyadarshini's mother's house to attend the Mariamman temple festival in Arasur Kullampalayam. An argument reportedly broke out between them, after which they went to sleep. Around 8 a.m. on Thursday, local residents discovered their bodies floating in a well at Chinnakaradu and alerted Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters retrieved the bodies and sent them to Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam for post-mortem examination. The Kadathur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
