Detroit Tigers call up Jahmai Jones; Andy Ibáñez optioned to Triple-A Toledo

The Detroit Tigers have added a new player to their active roster. The Tigers called up Jahmai Jones, a 27-year-old outfielder, from Triple-A Toledo, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation who were granted anonymity because the roster moves are not official. The Tigers optioned infielder Andy Ibáñez to the Mud Hens, following his continued struggles against left-handed pitchers. Advertisement Since July 21, 2024, Ibáñez is hitting .200 with a .578 OPS against left-handed pitchers across 136 plate appearances. He has hit just two home runs off lefties — and three total — during the 319-day stretch. MORE ABOUT THIS: Andy Ibáñez struggling vs lefties. That's a big problem for Tigers Detroit Tigers infielder Jahmai Jones walks out of the batting cage after practice during spring training at TigerTown in Lakeland, Fla. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. Both Jones and Ibáñez are right-handed hitters with track records of success against left-handed pitchers, so Jones is expected to step into the Ibáñez platoon role — only as an outfielder instead of an infielder. The Tigers need to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Jones, which could result in outfielder Akil Baddoo, currently in Toledo, being designated for assignment. Advertisement In 2025, Jones is hitting .276 with six home runs, 24 walks and 46 strikeouts across 52 games for Triple-A Toledo, posting an .875 OPS. He has made 18 starts in left field, 15 starts in right field and seven starts in center field. Jones has MLB service time in parts of four seasons, hitting .198 with a .535 OPS in 69 games. He has played for the Los Angeles Angels (three games in 2020), Baltimore Orioles (26 games in 2021), Milwaukee Brewers (seven games in 2203) and New York Yankees (33 games in 2024). He had a .238 batting average with the Yankees last season. This story will be updated. Contact Evan Petzold at epetzold@ or follow him @EvanPetzold. Adam Sandler promises Derrick Henry movie role if he breaks 2,000 yards

Adam Sandler promises Derrick Henry movie role if he breaks 2,000 yards Show Caption Hide Caption Barry Sanders on the importance of running backs in today's NFL Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders believes we are seeing a resurgence in the RB position in today's league. Sports Seriously Coming off of his most productive rushing season since 2020, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry just got an extra incentive to be even better in 2025. Actor and comedian Adam Sandler promised Henry a movie role and a nice dinner together if the five-time Pro Bowler can rush for over 2,000 yards next season. Sandler sent the promise in the form of a video to the Dan Patrick Show one day after Henry told Patrick that the "Happy Gilmore" star was his favorite actor. "If you ever see [Sandler] again, tell him I'm a really big fan, and I'd really love to meet him one day," Henry told Patrick on Thursday. BALTIMORE RAVENS: Why Chuck Pagano came out of retirement to return to Baltimore Patrick responded with the terms of the bet right after – a 2,000-yard season for a movie role in one of Sandler's next projects – but it wasn't until Friday that the actor backed him up and confirmed the deal. "Two-thousand yards plus this year gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together," Sandler said in the video. Henry messaged Patrick after seeing Sandler's video to express his gratitude: "That was really cool!" He also made sure to thank the actor for the additional push ahead of the season. Henry has rushed for 2,000 yards once before, in the aforementioned 2020 season with the Tennessee Titans that earned him an Offensive Player of the Year award. In 16 games that season, Henry tallied 2,027 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 378 carries, all of which led the league. His 5.4 average yards per carry ranked third of all running backs with at least 150 attempts. Last year, Henry's first with Baltimore, the nine-year NFL veteran put up 1,921 yards on 325 carries (5.9 yards per carry, which led all running backs) and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns. If Henry dominates opposing defenses again in 2025, those defenders can put the blame on Sandler for giving the running back just one more reason to excel.
